What a load of crap, TGP. You think that defines being Irish? That list is obviously flawed, I once hit my head on a ceiling, so there goes that stupd theory!

Of course, as our friend The Dude (owner of Connolly's Pub) once said when I was trying to choose a doctor, " Doid, stereotypes are there for a reason. I wouldn't go to Stein's pub for a Guiness, and I certainly wouldn't let a Dr. O'Malley operate on me". It proved to be sound advice.

+K for a great start to the weekend

Okay, so the musical chairs continue. As Pep tells the band, "Stay Tuned."

So, let's see if Pep can keep up with the game. Effective with the 2011 season:
Liberty League Lineup
Hobart
Union
St. Lawrence
Rochester
Rensselaer
Springfield
Merchant Marine
Worcester Tech

Empire Actual 8:
Alfred
Ithaca
Utica
Hartwick
Fisher
Frostburg State
Salisbury
Buffalo State(?)

Is this where everyone will sit in 2011?

No, Pep -- Springfield's move takes effect in 2012.  In 2011, LL has 7 and E8 has 9.  In 2012, LL has 8 and E8 had 8.  Now, here's the rub:  from what I understood, the Frostburg/Salisbury entry was just a two-year deal.  Thus, in 2013, this would leave the E8 with 6 football members at present -- not enough for a Pool A bid without another exemption.

[EDIT:  Let me correct this, since I just located the info regarding Buffalo State.  They join the E8 in 2012.  Therefore, here are the correct totals:

2011:  LL 7/E8 8 (SPR, FRO, SAL in E8)
2012:  LL 8/E8 8 (SPR in LL -- FRO, SAL, BUF in E8)
2013:  LL 8/E8 6 (SPR in LL -- BUF in E8 -- FRO, SAL TBD)]

Is this legit Frank? Will the Pride be joining the LL? This is the first dlip has heard of this. Damn dlip loves that triple option...just not against the U.

There is one thing left off the list... the tiny Irish pecker.  JT is thankful that Spanish Armada got beat by the British fleet and knocked up his ancestors.

When did Springfield get voted into the LL?

On a separate note, TGP fits most of these:

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE IN AN IRISH FAMILY

1) You will never play professional basketball.

2) You swear very well.

3) At least one of your cousins is a fireman, cop, bar owner, funeral home
owner or holds political office. And you have at least one aunt who is a
nun or uncle who's a priest.

4) You think you sing very well.

5) You have no idea how to make a long story short!

6) There isn't a big difference between you losing your temper or killing
someone...

7) Many of your childhood meals were boiled. Instant potatoes were a
mortal sin.

8) You have never hit your head on a ceiling.

9) You spent a good portion of your childhood kneeling in prayer.

10) You're strangely poetic after a few beers.

11) Some punches directed at you are from legacies of past generations.

12) Many of your sisters and/or cousins are named Mary, Catherine or
Eileen ..... and there is at least one member of your family wi th the
full name of Mary Catherine Eileen

13) Someone in your family is very generous. It is more than likely you.

14) You may not know the words, but that doesn't stop you from singing..

15) You can't wait for the other guy to stop talking before you start
talking.

16) You're not nearly as funny as you think you are .... but what you lack
in talent, you make up for in frequency.

17) There wasn't a huge difference between your last wake and your last
keg party.....

18) You are, or know someone, named Murph.

19) If you don't know Murph then you know Mac. If you don't know Murph or
Mac, then you know Sully. Then you probably know McMurphy.

20) You are genetically incapable of keeping a secret.

21) You have Irish Alzheimer's... you forget everything but the grudges!

22) 'Irish Stew' is a euphemism for 'boiled leftovers.'

23) Your skin's ability to tan.... not so much.

24) Childhood remedies for the common cold often included some form of
whiskey.

25) There's no leaving a family party without saying goodbye for at least
45 minutes.

26) At this very moment, you have at least two relatives who are not
speaking to each other. Not fighting, mind you, just not speaking to each
other.

#27)  There is no way if your last name is Duffy, you are also hairy as 'ish.

RE:  Springfield in the LL.  Maybe we can get some of the Bart D to do the "you can't see me" hand wave after they make a big play in honor of Springfield's only notable alum, John Cena.

Any PA folks know what the situation is like in State College today?  Bart is supposed to have a lax scrimmage there w/PSU at 1.

Completely legit.  Springfield has been courted for a while, from what I understand, based on the school's academic fit and geographic location.  The addition in football accomplishes two major things:

1) it allows Springfield to avoid a certain amount of travel budget, especially with the forced travel to one of Frostburg or Salisbury starting in 2011 (obviously, the Pride will be forced to make at least one of those trips) -- remember that Norwich has been a reasonable drive for Springfield, but that school is eventually being replaced with Buffalo State; and

2) it helps solidify WPI as a member school since there is less of a travel headache associated with this game -- remember also that Coast Guard is the missing team in the LL, that was replaced by very distant Susquehanna before fuel prices went through the roof.

If you're a Union fan, like you dlip, then this is a very good thing -- Union regains Springfield as their final opponent on their schedule in 2010.  This 2012 LL addition means that ALL 7 existing LL teams will have to face Springfield now, leveling the playing field since the number one complaint Union fans had about that game is that it was a wasted experience for Union's defense (they would rarely see that offense more than once a season).  Of course, some may view the downside as Springfield is always capable of winning a Pool A bid out from under the other LL teams -- but Susquehanna already proved that one to us.

All in all, a great move for the LL -- go to the front page and look to the upper right for the full story.

dlip has always been a fan of the Pride and that offense so needless to say he is excited about the new addition to the LL. Plus dlip can't wait to break down Springfield on some possible guest appearances on "In the Huddlle!" To dlip this does fare well for the LL and the overall strength of conference. Good ****in move!

What happened to Susquehanna?  I thought after they jumped ship from the MAC they were going to either LL or E8?

On another note, DC is snowed in big-time.  We have more than 25 inches on the ground.  The real bummer, I bet the Federal government will be open tomorrow, and the little Lycos will not have school.  Meaning, me and Mrs. L will have to do the rock, paper, scissors thing to see who gets to work and who gets to stay cooped up inside with the gremlins.

On second thought, maybe I can get deployed and avoid the whole thing altogether.

Wow - Susquehanna moves around like a guy trying to stay ahead of the bill collectors.

The simultaneous economic realities of higher costs for education and collegiate football are going to force many programs to re-evaluate not only their conference affiliation but also the future of fielding a football team.

I predict some schools will opt out of collegiate football with an eye towards continuing less costly sports.

D-III teams are seldom money makers for the school but the argument may be made they bring in alumni donations and student-athlete enrollment.

Practically speaking, private, liberal arts college education, seems poised to follow the Detroit automakers into oblivion.  Each year car costs continued to rise as attention to detail suffered and overseas competitors found a way to build a better product.  The challenge facing higher education - how can they continue to balance the budget with soaring fuel costs, inflationary wage factors for well-qualified faculty and a decrease in the endowment due to stock market reverses.

Sounds like a very challenging time to be in the leadership of any higher education institution.

Go Colts!  Go Warriors!!!

Can someone please tell me where in the backyard I left my snow shovel?

Twenty-one inches and more - yikes!

Lyco--

The Rev agrees with your assessment that these will be tough times for liberal arts colleges.  In fact, The Rev will turn it up a notch and say that some liberal arts colleges will have to close their doors.  They are over-priced and under-performing.  Worst of all, schools don't want to let go of subsidized programs (e.g. Trans-Gendered Studies, Wymyn's Studies, etc., etc.).  Granted those programs don't cost a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but if you add them all together and take an honest assessment of how much they bring in, they all need to be cut.

I never understood Hobart in the sense that we seem to have a large number of people in education programs.  Who in their right mind spends $50,000 a year to become a public school teacher?  Why not go to SUNY Cortland or SUNY Oneonta?  They are perfectly good schools and you can save yourself $150,000 over the course of four years.

That brings up the point of Return on Investment:  No liberal arts college will survive unless the promise of a great ROI materializes and becomes reality.  As in, when The Rev finally has kids, they are going to learn how to machine metal, weld, and other useful skills rather than go to college.  If they decide they want to go to school, they can choose an engineering program and live at home, but The Rev is not going to waste a dime on some Marxist P.O.S. teaching my kids to hate me, Free Enterprise, America, and the Church.

Oh! The Rev is fired up now!!!!
