As a Michigan fan, I am disappointed, but not surprised, at the state of affairs since Rodriguez came in. Even if he turns the program around, this just doesn't feel right, feels so, I don't know, Buckeyish. As much as I thought it had become a stale 8-4 type program, be careful what you wish for.

But for all of you Penn State fans serving up the haterade, let's get off of your high horse. You all cherish Joe Pa, but it wasn't but a few years ago where a lot of PSU fans were ready to push the man who basically IS Penn State out the door as too old. I hope my kids learn to have a little more respect for their elders.

Well they haven't really been that great since 1986.  And if you throw out a bad game by Miami, 1982.  That's worse than Ithaca!

really? how many wins do they have say just in the last 5 years? how many bcs games? how many times finishing in the top10 or top 20? who leads the big10 in wins over the last how many years? Most importantly who has 1 of the highest graduation rates for student athletes? Sure there are some things to pick on at psu but to say they are not that great since '86...talk about throwing haterade around

Me-cheat-again...a.k.a michigan goes down in flames w/ 5 major ncaa rule infractions against the football team...dear lord we can only hope they keep rodriguez there another 10 years...next up u.s.c.

http://www.freep.com/article/20100223/SPORTS06/100223022/1054/NCAA-U-M-football-made-5-major-rule-violations

As a Wolverine (my grad degrees are from there and I still live in the area), I find what has happened supremely sad (and disgusting).  Up until the Fab Five era in basketball, Michigan was considered the most squeaky-clean athletic department in major college sports.

Let me relate a story of how it used to be (first-hand knowledge).  Back when I was a TA (early 1970s), a fellow TA in my department was pressured by an assistant coach to change a football player's grade.  He reported it to the DH who called Bo Schembechler: the assistant coach was out on his ass the same day.

Today's football program (and seemingly athletic department in general) is NOT the one I knew and admired. >:( :(

pbr and most people agree w/ you mr. ypsi...its kinda sad...the big10 has always had a strong academic achievement for its athletes and michigan has sold its soul to the devil, as a psu fan we kinda like to see michigan struggle but not this way...richrod is disgusting and got away w/ this cr@p at wvu but michigan should of known better....we all hope psu is taking notes on when joepa retires.

As a Penn State fan dlip is a bit worried about the "post" Jo-Pa period that is soon to come to State College.

No worries dlip - JoePa will die on those sidelines. He'll be here awhile longer.  :)

In all seriousness, I'd hate to be the coach who follows in his footsteps.

Doesn't his son simply inherit the 'throne'? :D

dear lord we hope not.... money is on tom bradley the long time dc there right now w/ jay being a long outside shot. most feel jay would be better to go somewhere else and get some hc experience and then look to make his way back. also there are some rumblings that many wouldnt mind seeing al golden take over. he has turned a j.v. high school football team temple into a decent mac team. golden also played and coached under joepa being going to virginia as a dc.

I don't hate Penn St at all.  But I work with a Penn State fan and all I hear every year is how great they are going to be and how great they have been.  And every year they lose to a an average big 10 team or get blown out in the one big nonleague game they schedule.  Then I'm supposed to be impressed with Capital One Bowl games against 4th place SEC teams?  Or a BCS win against an 8-3 ACC team that was ranked 22nd in the country when Penn State was ranked 3rd?  Even the 1994 Rose Bowl game was against a 12th ranked Oregon team.

I never said they weren't a good football team.  I'm a Boston College fan actually.  I think they have done well for what they have but have not come close to what Penn State has accomplished.  But BC cannot do what schools like Penn State, Florida or USC can do.  They simply don't have the resources.  Of course the graduation rate is usually top 3 in the country for whatever reason.

I guess Im saying that in the last 20 years, there have been 5 schools that have won 2 national championships and another 5 or so that have won one.  All those schools have done something that Penn State has failed to do.

Now of course many of those programs probably didn't play by the rules like Penn State probably did either.  I give Penn State props for that, but they have underachieved over the past 20 years in my opinion.

next up u.s.c. looks like vacated wins/no bowl eligibility for several years/ no tv/loss of scholies....way to leave your hand picked successor flapping in the wind petey....(although couldnt happen to better person in pbr's opinion)

"After a full three days of interviews, including two full days focused on Pete Carroll's football program, the NCAA has wrapped up it's investigation of the USC athletic program. And while an investigation of this duration is virtually unheard of, the worst news for the Trojans football program appears to be coming from leaked reports popping up over the last several hours.

One official directly connected to the investigation was directly quoted as saying that the only matter for discussion at this point is the severity of the sanctions. It is all but assured that the Trojans will lose a significant number of scholarships and bowl eligibility for as many as two years, and will not be appearing on television.

This is part of what is rapidly becoming the norm in college football; two of the last four BCS championship game participants have all been on some form of probation. It's an issue that desperately needs to be addressed.

SC may very well pay the price for the trend, as the NCAA will in all likelihood look to set an example of the Trojans, leveling some rather harsh penalties and probation. It isn't as if we didn't see it coming; Pete Carroll jumping ship the way he did pretty well tipped us all off.

r.i.p. mosi tatupu...was the current rb coach at curry.

HONOLULU, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- American Samoa native Mosi
Tatupu, who played running back in the NFL for more than a
decade, has died at the age of 54, a family friend says.
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin said Tuesday that Tatupu's NFL
career began in 1978 when he was selected in the NFL draft by
the New England Patriots, a team he played for until 1990.
Tatupu's career with the Patriots included his
participation in Super Bowl XX, in which the Patriots lost to
the Chicago Bears 46-10.
Tatupu, who died of unknown causes Tuesday, also played
for the Los Angeles Rams for five games before retiring from
the NFL in 1991. At the time of his resignation from the
league, Tatupu's 199 games played was a record for a running
back.
During his NFL career, Tatupu amassed a total of 612
carries for 2,415 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Tatupu's only reported survivor is his son Lofa, a
linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks.
The Star-Bulletin said Tatupu, who is a Hawaii Sports Hall
of Fame member, was serving as the running backs coach for
Massachusetts' Curry College at the time of his death.
