As a Penn State fan dlip conquers with this statement 100%. He still thinks Joepa is as good as they could ever come.

Dlip has just come up with the latest LLPP-ism: conquers instead of concurs.

QuoteNow of course many of those programs probably didn't play by the rules like Penn State probably did either.  I give Penn State props for that, but they have underachieved over the past 20 years in my opinion.

Only thing I don't like about JoePa is that he killed the Penn State vs. Pitt rivalry about two decades ago for spite...as the only two major DI programs in Pennsylvania, it is ridiculous that they don't play anymore...

that is not due to psu...psu has offered sPitt numerous times a home and home match and sPitt has refused...gee do u think joe was a little angry at sPitt because the last time they played sPitt required everyone buying a ticket to the psu/sPitt game also buy another ticket to a sPitt home game just to keep psu fans out of their rented stadium? sPitt cant get 20K fans to fill ketchup field so they pulled that stunt to try and keep psu fans out of the stadium.

That is not what I hear from the Pitt side of it...the story that I have heard for years is when Pitt, PSU and others were figuring out the whole Big East - Big Ten league and where they would go, Pitt jumped to the BE, and JoePa swore pretty publicly that he would never play Pitt again as long as he was the coach (last game being in 2000, so they did play a few more times).  I have also heard that is was easy for Pitt to drop the games because PSU demanded an unbalanced home-home match up (3-2 or 2-1) knowing Pitt wouldn't take the bait...not the home and home match up like you suggest...

Additionally, Heinz filled was packed this year for almost every game...

That seems to be the general consensus (and what I recall), that this was fueled by JoePa's anger over the Big East jump. Whatever the cause, ridiculous that this is no longer played. Thanks god Penn State - Temple filled the void.

And in the unlikely event that Temple is able to hang onto Al Golden it might actually turn into a decent rivalry.

I just want to see PSU and Pitt start playing again...honestly...it is almost the equivalent of USC and UCLA not playing each year...

also would you like me to post the pix of a stadium 2/3 empty at kick off? sPitt got the extra fans in the stadium this year because they gave them to downtown business's to handout  to all their employees for FREE!! they are doing anything to make that tumbleweed stadium look full. their a.d. even admitted they were considering putting the tarps in the upper levels over the empty seats and move everyone down to the lower level to give it the appearance of being full because it looked so bad on t.v.....u know when sPitt plays those fantastic tues/wed/thurs night barn burners against south florida that no one watches

You can show me a picture here and there if you want...but I have been to a few games down there in the past few years...and the place has been pretty full, and from the middle of the year or so on this year, the place was pretty much packed.

I am not saying that they get more fans then PSU...they don't...

The articles you listed are interesting though...
"The reason the series ended between Pitt and Penn State was because Penn State wanted two home games for every one at Pitt. "

Wasn't that one of my arguements???  The other article alluded to that Pitt could be playing PSU again...if they would only join the Big Ten...
