20 years later, this advice still works.

20 years later that might work, but 20 years ago...well where is the fun in that?  (granted, I was 11 20 years ago, but that's beside the point)

So Ive been following Boston Colleges search for a new basketball coach, and there were some interesting talk regarding several things in some recent articles in the Boston Globe.

One rumor is of the Big Ten expanding to teams that may make it a 16 team conference.  The new teams would include Pitt, ND, Syracuse, Uconn and Rutgers while the ACC would grab West Virginia, Louisville, South Florida and another team.

Then there was a rumor of BC even leaving the ACC to join the Big Ten with some other teams (Maryland and Virginia) while the ACC would focus on more southern schools.

Ive heard the big ten expansion stuff before, but I have a feeling Notre Dame is the big piece in this whole puzzle.

Thats crazy, PBR.... so THATS the thing with Scottie Reynolds and probably why he didn't feel like opening up the Scouting Report for Robert Morris in the 1st Round.  SF is all about having fun while you're young, dumb and full of #@m

SO SF went to a the Reds game last night (Game 2 of the year).  Is it too early to fire Dusty Baker??  I mean, Chrikies... the guy is a moron.  Somehow the Reds get the game tied at 2 last night on an Orlando Cabrera HR in the 6th inning off Adam Wainwright.   After a single to lead off the 7th, Dusty brings in the Logan Ondrusek (a rookie right hander) to face the St Louis top of the order... So what happens??  The kid WALKS Brendan Ryan on 4 pitches, then Pujols hits the next pitch into CF to plate a run (after the game the rookie said: "But I broke his bat") and Holliday hits a 2-RBI Double 4 pitches later (Holliday also scored 2 batters later)  to break the game open 5-2.   GAME OVER at that point.  All this right after the Reds (and the crowd) got back into the game 5 minutes earlier.

Dusty still had has entire bullpen available after Johnny Cueto went 6 strong innings and he brings in the only rookie in the pen to face Pujols and Matt Holliday???  Couldn't believe it.   Bring in Arthur Rhoades at that point.  Do whatever... you just tied the game against the 2nd best team in the NL and the team you are going to be chasing in the Central this summer.

Sorry... had to vent fellas.

its crazy the amount of rumors/scenarios rolling around right now w/ the possible big 10 expansion. Latest seems to be just ND coming which would make the most sense. Still some 'cuse/rutgers/ND/Nebraska rumors floating as well. the biggest thing seems to be whether to go to 12 or 16 teams. The ideal additions would be texas/aTm/nebraska/ND but not sure thats going to happen. Nebraska has stated they would be very interested/like to come to the big 10. Of course who wouldnt w/ the $$$ the big ten channel is dishing  to schools. ND seems to want to come but some of their wealthy alumni are bucking saying they want to stay independent. So they keep wavering back and forth. Personally pbr thinks this it for ND if they turn down the option of joining they wont be asked again and they know it. Everyone is waiting to see if any big 12 teams jump like colorado to the pac 10 or nebraska to the big 10 and many dominos will fall. big 10 is only taking someone in who brings something to the table since its another slice of the $$$ pie to hand out. that is why 'cuse/rutgers seem unlikely.

The whole appeal of Rutgers is the NY tv market.  KS thinks that Coach Stringer would not want to leave the Big East for the Big Ten.

exactly and the #1 and #2 rated games on each week in the ny tv market? ND and PSU. Rutgers is a blip on the radar. In fact both schools take over 4-5 bars/restaurants w/ their large alumni following.

Well the other interesting thing about some of those teams joining the Big 10 would be the fact that the old big 10 would really be just the same, and the old big east/"east independents" would be the other half of the new big 10 (Notre Dame, Penn State, Syracuse, BC, Rutgers, Pitt, Temple)

BC wouldn't bring a lot of money but people in Boston do watch a lot of Notre Dame football.

I also wonder how much the NCAA can influence this decision.  What if they come up with a new playoff, bowl game system with different payouts and TV contracts?  That could influence everything as well.

dlippiel

dlip heard the Big ****in East is considering expanding from 16 to 72 teams????

Maybe not, but I can't imagine any D1 program in a major conference making a membership decision based on what the women's basketball team wanted. I don't even think Geno Auriemma or Pat Summitt could wield that sort of clout.
