To all who either reside or attended college in the Mohawk - Hudson Valley region of New York State:

We just spent ten days in Vermont but visited throughout the aforementioned region and were taken by the small towns and scenic beauty of the area.  It appears as if the best days are behind many of the towns and industries but we thought it was a good place to grow up, raise a family, or attend one of the schools I hear you mention so passionately.

Mrs. Lyco even remarked that I would have something to post on the LLPP upon our return - got to love a woman who knows how you tick.

My condolences to the family and friends of Mike Czerwien - it is always tragic when a young person dies, no matter the circumstances.

Permit me to tell an Afghanistan war story - a true one - on Christmas eve one of our servicemen was brought to a field hospital in terrible condition - the surgeons worked on him for four hours but he died nevertheless.  Later the surgeon lamented that no one should die on Christmas Eve - knowing full well the knock on the door was waiting for his family on Christmas Day marring all future Christmas Days.

The cost of all that is around us is unfathomable - say a prayer for the Czerwien family, and for surgeons who cannot be god, and for our Armed Forces who are always on watch for us all.

+K Pep spent his "college days" in Morrisville near the geographic center of New York State. Pep interviewed for a sports editor job in Little Falls a few decades ago. Pep hasn't been down US 20 in a few years but is well aware of many small towns having seen their "better days." It is apparent in the small towns around Allegany County as well. Nevertheless, Allegany County, Pep would argue, is filled with kind-hearted folks who despite their economic adversities (and Allegany County has been one of the poorest in the state for a long time), continue to pour into their communities and give of themselves for everyone's benefit.

Pep is talking about volunteer firefighters, civic groups, community organizations, churches and NEIGHBORS who CARE and who make a difference.

KS is just coming back to life after last night.  The Jets are trying to sell KS company a suite and they gave the CEO two comp tickets to the Kid Rock, Bon Blo Me concert last night.  CEO is in South Africa with the HK staff at the World Cup.  He told the office manager here to give them to someone, that someone was KS and his wife.

MKS loves Bon Blo Me, so KS scored good points last night, free food, drinks, AC, Great seats outside.  Good concert.  Kid Rock was rocking, KS was drinking Heine Keg Cans, then Amstel Lights so was MKS.  Bon Jovi played for almost three hours, until just after midnight.  Hurt his leg.  Lots of 40 some year old former bimbos running around.

The stadium is awesome, great sight lines, there was a good cross breeze all night, KS was walking around and even in the upper decks the view is great.  KS is going to recommend to the CEO we get the suite.  He will be in NYC in a couple of weeks.

Sorry for rambling, KS needs a nap, everyone in the suite took advantage of the Jets hospitality.  They were great hosts and encouraged everyone to enjoy.  KS was happy to oblige.

No hating, just not a big Bon Jovi fan.  He did another song after hurting himself, then had to quit because it was after midnight.

This just in.....(LL related, who knew?):

2010 Hobart Roster is Up

39 FY in what amounts to mostly skill players vs. interior guys....

FY of note (thx to PA for the assist) seems to be these 5 guys:

Juan Breton LB from NYC (did a PG year @KUA in NH - was on Sacred Heart's preseason roster but apparently jumped to the 'Bart)
Leo Cohen TE (6-4, 245 lbs) from Rutland, VT (also an All-State lax defenseman based on this and his size guessing he'll be a two-sport athlete for Hobart)
Max Janoff OL (305 lbs - effectively making him one of the biggest kids on this fall's team) from Morristown-Beard
Steven Webb RB from Dundee (had 300 yards vs. DeSales)
Devin Worthington OLB/SS from Aquinas/Rochester like Breton did a PGY at Worchester Academy (TGP wonders if WPI and/or UofR had this kid on their radar?)

Other things to note is Marlier graduated/is gone as is Chris Rose (was 3rd string QB).  TGP's best guess is that Strang and Olney will vie for back-up QB duties.  Initial prognosis is that Hobart's season really hinges on Vella's health (and consistency which is equally important).

Otherwise team is pretty deep - especially at LB, DB, WR, FB, TE and OL.  RB will probably still be by committee barring Tritten taking off (he certainly has the potential).  Julian had the starting job to start '09 but literally fumbled it away in the Dickinson game and was never really a factor after that.

There are a number of DT and DEs (16) on the roster, but not many guys who saw significant action from last season save for Luber (DE) and Auriemma (DT).

In closing the "best name" of the 2010 Statesmen easily goes to SO DT Chazoi Hardware.

That's all TGP has at this point.  60 days and counting til kick-off.....

I know Bart lax has been down, but being all-state lacrosse in Vermont wouldn't cut it at a D1 school. If he was an All-American selection from Vermont, then maybe, but even that would be a longshot. Not hating on Leo, I certainly wouldn't have been an all-state lax player in Vermont, and a great achievement, but just not a strong state for lacrosse.

But +K for you and Dlip starting to talk football again, it's starting to get to be that time again, isn't it?

good intel re VT lax....

tgp didn't see this kid on the bart lax radar so he could be a potential "walk-on" (and/or just a club player).  i like the size of LC so hopefully he can become a contributor down the road.

matt marsh is the returning starter (he started 6 games) but only made a few catches (3 for 51 yds) and is mostly a blocking TE vs. a solid receiving option for bart.

if cohen proves to have better hands he may get some early PT but he is "behind" 3 returning SOs so maybe not?
