whew...world is definetly spinning on a new axis....joepa names a true freshmen as starting qb congrats to robert bolden by all accounts he has outperformed everyone over the last month!  new big 10 conference has psu/osu/wiscy and a cross division game against nebraska every year...yeowzah some fantastic home games.

Thank god the Big Ten didn't screw this up and kept the Mich/ OSU game on the last weekend of the Big Ten season. I thought they should have kept Mich and OSU in the same division, but I can see it both ways, and overall I thought they did a great job of splitting up the league. The only thing I'm pissed at is that Nebraska plays at Michigan in 2011, so I'll have to wait until 2012 when Michigan plays at Nebraska to finally visit college football mecca, i.e. Lincoln.

They should never have divisional crossover games on the last weekend of a season since that game could be "replayed" the following weekend in the Championship.  I think that's a danger that would've necessitated moving the game up by at least a couple weeks, to be honest.  Otherwise, I would've agreed with you here, Doid.  It's just a farce when you get the same game two weeks in a row potentially.

Which is why they should have kept Michigan and OSU in the same division. Back in the day when it was the Big 2 plus the Little 8 I wouldn't have thought to put them in separate divisions, but over the past decade or so balance has come to the Big Ten, and there's no reason to think that it won't stay balanced, so I thought they would have kept them in the same division and kept the late November date.

Thx to all who tuned into the ITH preseason kickoff show!  We doubled our live listener base from preseason 2009 and expect a number of additional downloads over the holiday weekend.

If you missed it, we spoke with the following individuals on last night's show:

WPI SID Rusty Eggen and SR S Jack Mulhern, former SLU HC Chris Phelps and SR TE Tim Robinson, MMA SR RB Karl Heimbrock, RPI SR WR Pat McCarthy, UofR SR RB Clarence Onyiriuka, Hobart JR QB Doug Vella, and Union SR DE Chris Gross.

We're back at our regularly scheduled time of 7:30 PM ET this Sunday night where we'll recap this weekend's games and preview 9/11 ones, including coach and player interviews (more info on the following to come soon).

Have a great LDW and good luck to SLU, WPI and MMA this weekend!

Nice job on the In the Huddle.  I'm getting psyched for the season.  Poor WPI and SLU sound like they're still on the bottom (other than that peak year for WPI).  Coach Phelps sounded like a beaten down guy and it's hard to believe that was the winningest class in a long time there.

I'd like to think MMA can be competitive, and maybe it's just the specific matchup, but they just can't run the ball to save their lives.  I think Hobart's given up 70 yards rushing collectively to them since inception and accounted for about 1/3 of their sacks.

UofR, I'm not so sure they're going to be in the mix, but they've done enough the past 3-5 years that you have to be weary.  No idea about RPI.  I'm not sure the RB's are as good as some past ones, so Hermann's going to be really important.

Union's going to be tough.  Bring back a lot, but they didn't run away from teams last year with a home heavy schedule (IC, Bart, RPI, SUS), so the gap isn't wide, but they get the benefit of doubt as the top returning league team.  Bart shredded that D on the ground last year (have no idea of the final stats, but Marlier had to have had 120+ yards and every time he touched it he picked up 5-6yds right up the gut), so it'll be interesting to see how their run D is this year w/o Peters, though I'm sure they'll have talent.

Surprised Frank thinks he can write of Vella after his first year, as a SO, as starter.  HE has a ton to prove, but the talent's there.  Mizro was good his SO year, but had a better running game (Blackowski) and two of Bart's best receivers ever in Suozzi and Pinero (and Colby Feane was a really good 3rd option too), so it's not a reasonable comparison.  Totally fired up by the confidence and admission that they walked into a buzzsaw thinking teams were going to lay down for them last year.  He's righ tabout the back end of the season and the improvement.  Also fired  up about this Webb kid.  He had crazy HS stats, but at a small school, so it's hard to translate, but the way Vella was on his nuts I've got to think he's going to be a potent weapon.  Bart doesn't seem to have the size of a couple of years ago, but superior speed and skill.

Love teh upgrades in schedules w RPI picking up AU and Bart grabbing SJF.  I think RT's right, if things break right and some FR contribute for the teams, you could have a 2005 all over agian.  Some leaps need to be made by all teams though.  Didn't agree with Frank's 04-05 analysis for Union, but I just assume it's the rose glasses we all have.  Also not convinced Coney, good as he is, will bebetter than Arciddicono (Sp).

Hey, pbr - nice, Facebook on D3 Football! :)  Good luck to everyone starting the season this weekend (Especially the Aggies), & a Great Labor Weekend to all!

Great pre-season "In the Huddle" fellas. Just builds the excitement that so many of us fans have with the LL season opening up this weekend.

QuoteAlso not convinced Coney, good as he is, will bebetter than Arciddicono (Sp).

A tough call here especially with their different running styles. dlip feels Coney will make his own mark during his senior campaign and the comparison will be enjoyable for all. Bottom line they are both fantastic backs and a pleasure to watch run the ball for the Dutchman.

On another note (this won't surprise U89) dlip is very excited for the Pride's arrival upon the LL scene joining us next year (dlip believes) as a conference member. They will bring that vaunted triple option to the conference, increase some offensive #'s for the conference, raise the football strength of the conference, and maybe replace the three headed monster with a four headed monster.

Ed Zaloom will be missed for sure but maybe this gives WPI a jump with their hand picked replacement (Robinson) and hopeful improvement in conference play.

Looks like a fair number of freshmen on offense, and the o-line in particular.  Going to have to hope the defense keeps them in games.

Should be interesting to see the type of attitude Raymond brings to the SLU squad.  He brought a bunch of former Ithaca players/coaches in with him, so it could help bring a winning attitude to the team.

Agreed.  Glad to see you back on the boards.  TGP enjoyed speaking with Tim Robinson last week and we have Coach Raymond coming on our 9/12 show.  Good luck vs. IC this weekend!
