Note to Coach Cragg:

Go to Lawrence Academy to recruit linemen:

St George's backs out of game vs. Lawrence Academy

"Among other options, Lawrence Academy reportedly offered to play the game at "half speed" to ensure no players got hurt."

I'm torn by this comment. If it was sarcastic, brilliant, that just cracks me up.

If it was a seriuos offer, than St. Georges may just be right, Lawrence Academy is filled with meatheads. Sadly, I think it's the latter...

Hobart gets a lot of players from that league (ISL).  But there is more to this story than what you can read in this article.

Basicaly what has happened is that two teams (Lawrence Academy and BB&N) have turned them selves into D1 football feeder systems while disregarding many of the traditions of the league.  It used to be a league where schools had 95% of their students having started at the schools in 7th or 9th grade and the main focus was on academics and no one recruited anyone for sports (hockey excluded but thats a different story)  Now BB&N and Lawrence Academy basically recruit players from local high schools to transfer any time during high school (10th thru 12th grade).  Other teams in the league basically still play by the unofficial rules (they don't even exchange game film), and there is a general distain for BB&N and Lawrence Academy.

Lawrence Academy and BB&N also have this interesting rivalry where both schools show how snobby and whiny they can be.  Last year Lawrence Academy beat BB&N but there was a play towards the end on a 3rd and 1 where BB&N was called for holding and had to try again at 4th and 10.  Here is a quote from that coach after the call:

"It was the worst call I've ever seen in my 32 years of coaching. Number one the judgment, it was a holding call behind the play supposedly. Now that I've had chance, we immediately watched the tape, it was a 100-percent clean cut block by our left guard – 100 percent clean. I've been coaching for 32 years and I've never complained about a call publicly, but I will now. It was a disgrace – you can quote me – It's a disgrace that a call like that took away our chance, our chance to win the football game. We are talking about the ISL championship. The kids had a chance to win. We're not talking about a pass interference call, we're talking about a backside supposed holding call. I am going go to (the) league commissioner about it. All the effort of these kids put in in their four years, and it comes down to a call like that. I take nothing away from Lawrence Academy. They are a fine, great football team who played well enough to win. We just wanted a chance at end to win"

Good effort - not perfect like Larsen of the Yankees - but commendable nevertheless.

Go Yankees!

I'm sure you're a good guy, '80, but this Lyco and Yankees combo is just a knife in my heart.   ;)

A buddy of mine out here in CA (originally from Newport, RI and who went to Portsmith Abbey) relayed pretty much the same deal.  The ISL is really bent out of shape by what's going on at LA and BB&N.

That said, Hobart doesn't actually have that many ISL kids on their roster from what I can tell - certainly have had ISL kids in the past - but this year the only NE preps that jump out are places like KUA, Williston, Berkshire, Rivers, and Gunnery.

Weird how little I care about baseball this year.  I loathe the Yankees and Phillies so maybe that is why.  If they meet in the Series, I'll have to root for Philly though.  Let's go Twinkies and Giants?  I don't know.
