When you said you wanted to congratulate RPI on its win because none of its own fans would.

No, max, I said that U89, dlip and I had congratulated them last night, but I was questioning why none of the RPI posters did and instead focused on the broadcast last night.

[EDIT:  By the way, speaking of winning with class, I've yet to see an RPI poster congratulate their own team on the win last night.  Oddly enough, Union89 and I [further edit: and dlip] were the only two three who did send congratulations last night publicly.  RPI posters owe their team some kudos for the big win last night -- we'll be doing more congrats later on ITH with Coach King... so, trust me, I know who won and lost the game and for what reasons.]

"You said you wanted to congratulate RPI on its win because none of its own fans would."

Fine. Change to:

"You said you congratulated RPI while wondering why none if its own fans would."

Nothing about my opinion changes.

No problem.  Why don't you spend your time instead helping to install some Internet connections into your school's press box.  You know, that communications school you went to?

?? Press box? Am I supposed to be insulted by that? News flash: I didn't design the thing.

Do you actually win cases this way?

What stones am I throwing at you, Frank? Grow up, for christ's sake. The point was about the team.

Because we know the "two guys" you're pointing to, attempting to claim we sugarcoat and justify the games when we report on them.  The specific thing Reg was pointing to was the second weekend in a row that an ECAC official robbed Union of rightful possession of the football.  Last week, Union would've been 30 yards from a 3rd-quarter tie.  Last night, Union would've been in the red zone, 1st and 10, down 14-0 with nearly ten minutes left.  Because of the wrong call and because the officials rushed the ball back into play instead of huddling to correct the call, RPI reeled off a 30-yard play -- and Union's defense was done in that drive.  Essentially, it was a 10- or 14-point swing in a game decided by 14 points.

We were not justifying the loss based on this -- the points I made were centered on how the officials were playing a role in the outcome of the last two games.  Needless to say, the ECAC observer in the Press Box, who normally has not much to do during the games, raced out of the Press Box to speak with the officials.  He could hear us during the broadcast and never came down to correct us -- so, I feel comfortable after checking the rule that we were correct -- and I don't have ECAC officiating training.

To make the comment you made undercuts the job we did on the air last night, whether or not we are the "Union broadcast."  I work with the best crew in the business when it comes to my color commentators and co-hosts, and I will defend the job we do since in Division III, there is no pay for this and the time commitment is great.  Perhaps defend the people getting torn apart on the boards when they actually provide a service for your team, win or lose, instead of lobbing on with cute little asides.  It's not appreciated, regardless of where your comments were pointed toward.  Win with class; lose with more class.

Whaaatt? Read my post. I responded to Reg about his lumping all Union fans together. 2, 6, I don't know who said what, or who's in the booth. Don't care, to be honest. Don't even know what you're talking about, or the drama you always manage to create in these situations. Don't care about that either.

Get over yourself. Seriously. Actually, I should scold myself for getting into a debate with someone with the temperament of a teenage girl.

Hey Frank:  I am relatively new to the d3boards and have pretty much limited myself to the NJAC board.  I had no idea of your reputation when I called you a pompous ass.  I take it back as I don't think I was qualified to do so.  I will defer to your friends here who know you better.

No, you responded by differentiating the broadcasters' opinions from yours after he tooled on the broadcasters for discussing another blatant officiating error.  You acted like the broadcasters were justifying Union errors -- and that's pretty irresponsible on your part.  That's my point.

I already told you I am!  What more do you need?!  :)

Listen, as I said on tonight's "In the HuddLLe," we've gotten to interview players and coaches from every LL team over the last three seasons.  You begin to realize that these guys are a lot more human and love the game and teams they play for.  Many of them, like Darryl Brown, always give shout-outs to the alums and fans of their teams -- and they're sincere about it.  They already know that these alums expect better because they know the histories of the various teams.  It's taught me that constant negativity just isn't right -- and it's changed me into a better overall analyst (less biased in some ways, and more constructive across the board).  I even feel bad about tooling so much on RPI during Shoes Week... but I think the RPI family knows it's in jest and I was actually hoping to get some of the old RPI posters to come out of the woodwork to defend their team.  Didn't work (well, except for Reg -- thanks for listening last night, Reg).

Anyway, the reason why I'm pompous is that I really don't have time to defend myself for not having played the game (as I find myself having to do often) and because I don't have time for people who seem to have ulterior motives and personal vendettas to settle on these boards.  The constantly negative people on here I really feel are hiding some sort of personal issue with the teams, staffs or players in question -- it doesn't make sense why someone would always breed negativity publicly when supposedly they root for the team in question.

My motive?  To promote and enhance the game for the players and the fans of Division III that appreciate what Division III football really is -- a collection of players who play the game for the sake of playing the game of football.  When I see something that should be improved or something that makes no sense, I mention it because it probably has the ability to cause what I perceive to be unfair treatment of these players.  So, if opening my mouth for that reason makes me pompous, then guilty as charged.

If there's anything you've displayed tonight, Frank, it's that you will find time to defend yourself.

St. Lawrence University to Mount Union College:  488 miles (Google Maps)

Limit for NCAA-paid Flights:  500 miles.

Ouch.

On the NCAA official mileage chart:

From: ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY
To: MOUNT UNION COLLEGE
Miles: 492.0

For some reason, it's 522 miles the other direction.
