I just did a google maps search on St. Lawrence.  Holy crap......that is UP THERE!  So do the kids go to Ottawa & Montreal for fun?  What is SLU known for, and if I was looking for a college, why would/should SLU be on my radar?

This game will be anti-climatic, but it is interesting in learning about other colleges in the country.

SLU is known for it's DI ice hockey teams (men's and women's) mainly.  Overall very strong athletically.  Men's soccer normally is nationally ranked, as are cross country, track and field, and men's lax.  Basketball teams are pretty good too.

Good school academically (like most in the LL), small town school with a tight-nit community, etc, etc.

Yes, lots of kids go up to Ottawa or Montreal for a weekend, or head over to Whiteface or Gore mountains for some skiing.

The Larries will do there best to make things climactic for you...wait, that doesn't sound right.

You don't really represent Mount Union or yourself very well.  If I were you, i'd go google something funky and have an anti-climax all over yourself.

NLNLD - the questions were serious, and not in jest....but whatever.

StLarry invited OAC folks over to discuss the game, etc...  I had no idea where SLU was located, and seriously was interested in learning anything about the university from a SLU/LL perspective.

To post the usual "Mount wins by 50" reallly doesn't accomplish anything, and that's what  I was trying to avoid.

Mea culpa... :-\

No problem.  If you need directions, head to East Bumf%#k New York, take a right and go another 30 miles or so.  If you cross a bridge into Canada, you've gone too far (but not by much).  Watch out for the Amish folks driving along in their horse-drawn buggies (for real).

Is there anything to Mount Union other than football?  That's about all we hear about here, and the fact that is is near Canton, OH.

Mount has a great overall athletic presence in the OAC, but football has obviously overwhelmed all the other sports with the national success.  At times it has caused some friction between football vs. other sports, but for the most part the university and town rally around the team.  As Mount fans, we are quite spoiled with the success, and can't believe when the team doesn't win, or god forbid doesn't GET to the Stagg Bowl.

This particular team may be the weakest team in the play-offs since the 2004 team.  This team does have two potential NFL players in Cecil Shorts III (WR), and Kyle Miller (TE).  There have been pro scouts here to watch both of them more than once.

Mount is a quality liberal arts school that has has had enormous growth that has coincided with the success of the football team.  New buildings, programs, etc...

That's great.  Your questions about learning about the school were serious.  Wonderful.  Your arrogance otherwise is laughable.  I think everyone understands what is going to happen next week so go thump your chest on the OAC board regarding the game.  Let there be a glimmer of hope for the few Larry fans on this board.  You're playing a team that has won less games in the past 4 years than your team won LAST year.  We get it.  All hail Mount Union!

Well put....do you have to hook up with a 'grenade' to have an 'anti-climax'??

Dave Jennings is an alum as well, ex-punter for the Giants. No Chief High Socks, certainly, but famous nonetheless.

Sweet.  The 2 schools aren't that much different after all.  There's a large Amish population in a few counties not too far from Alliance.

Went to my first LL game this week. Hobart Vs. UofR.  It was a good game.  UofR really had some beef on their lines and they dominated the front lines of Hobart on both sides of the ball.  Hobart had good linebackers and good skill positions acrtoss the board but the QB seemed weak.  Not sure why when you have a good kicker you elect to go for two at home to win rather than go to a third OT.

that's what i gathered listening to WEOS.  hobart's OL was supposed to a be strength this season (they only lost two guys to graduation last year and the new center and LT on this year's team did play a lot last year) but they got pushed around in some key games (including saturday).  bart's DL is very young and inexperienced, but has had it's moments.

your obversation on the qb (vella) is accurate.  he's probably been the "weakest" qb hobart has fielded since the early 2000's (birdsall).  he's a good kid and plays his ass off but the facts are vella was directly responsible for 10 turnovers in hobart's three league losses this season.  better accuracy and ball control and it would probably be hobart, not slu, going to the NCAAs.

re the 2 pt try - cragg has a history of being a "riverboat gambler".  lots of fake punts, going for it on 4th down, etc.  so most bart fans and alums are used to these types of decisions.  while it's great on one hand, its losses like this that make you wonder why he didn't play it a little safer?  bart won a triple OT game vs. rpi a few years earlier (2005), but maybe cragg didn't think the defense could stop rochester given the line play you stated earlier?  then again, hobart's only lost 2 OT games - the first after missing a FG vs. Dickinson in 2007, otherwise has gone 6-0 and never has lost an OT game at home until last saturday so luck / history has been "on our side"....

yesterday's game reminded me of one i attended in 1997 hobart when beat rpi in ot when they went for 2 and qb greg helmer found te nico karagosian on a short pass for the 36-35 win.  that said, that statesmen team was 4-5 going into that final game and didn't have a potential ECAC bid on the line.

i still think given hindsight, cragg would probably do the same thing again.  unfortunately vella made a bad throw (which he's done several times this season) and it was just out of muratori's reach who sounded like he was open.  better pass, hobart wins.

tough loss for hobart, but hopefully strang can return the statesmen back to the playoffs in 2011.
