I'm still waiting for someone to explain just WTF is up with Rochester.

Well, the coaches of the LL picked them to finish in first place, so the talent is there.  Barely lost to Case then had their best player knocked out of the second game of the year so perhaps that contributed to them being down for the first half of the season.

Greene is a great coach (NFL, Mich State pedigree) and Rochester is a great school, so not surprised they are on the rebound.

I just did a google maps search on St. Lawrence.  Holy crap......that is UP THERE!  So do the kids go to Ottawa & Montreal for fun?  What is SLU known for, and if I was looking for a college, why would/should SLU be on my radar?

This game will be anti-climatic, but it is interesting in learning about other colleges in the country.

SLU is known for it's DI ice hockey teams (men's and women's) mainly.  Overall very strong athletically.  Men's soccer normally is nationally ranked, as are cross country, track and field, and men's lax.  Basketball teams are pretty good too.

Good school academically (like most in the LL), small town school with a tight-nit community, etc, etc.

Yes, lots of kids go up to Ottawa or Montreal for a weekend, or head over to Whiteface or Gore mountains for some skiing.

The Larries will do there best to make things climactic for you...wait, that doesn't sound right.

StLarry - thanks man, I appreciate the response.

No problem.  If you need directions, head to East Bumf%#k New York, take a right and go another 30 miles or so.  If you cross a bridge into Canada, you've gone too far (but not by much).  Watch out for the Amish folks driving along in their horse-drawn buggies (for real).

Is there anything to Mount Union other than football?  That's about all we hear about here, and the fact that is is near Canton, OH.

Sweet.  The 2 schools aren't that much different after all.  There's a large Amish population in a few counties not too far from Alliance.

Actually, it's where UMU gets most of their recruits.  There's nothing like a corn-fed Amish boy on the oline.

Agree with the great school assessment and don't know enough about the coach to comment.  But it seems that during the 4 years I've been aware of the program, consistency is not a word I would attach to the team.  Silly losses followed by terrific wins and vice versa.  I understand losing CO was a blow, (terrific kid and player) but he's a senior and it seems that there should have been someone in place by this time to replace him.  If I remember last years team, they depended on CO to the point of exhaustion.  Anyway, it is nice to see them end the year on such a positive.

Agree - btw - CO will be back next season (he redshirted this year due to the injury).  RJ Napadona, while a small guy, did a nice job filling in at RB once CO was out.  He had some big games, especially against Alfred, but yeah, Greene is probably on the recruiting trail looking for more RBs.

His O/DLs are pretty young (mostly FY and SOs) so its really the skill positions UofR needs to get consistent with.

Yeah I heard CO was doing some grad work at UofR next year.  I'm sure his parents are thrilled!

You don't really represent Mount Union or yourself very well.  If I were you, i'd go google something funky and have an anti-climax all over yourself.

Well put....do you have to hook up with a 'grenade' to have an 'anti-climax'??

NLNLD - the questions were serious, and not in jest....but whatever.

StLarry invited OAC folks over to discuss the game, etc...  I had no idea where SLU was located, and seriously was interested in learning anything about the university from a SLU/LL perspective.

To post the usual "Mount wins by 50" reallly doesn't accomplish anything, and that's what  I was trying to avoid.

Mea culpa... :-\

That's great.  Your questions about learning about the school were serious.  Wonderful.  Your arrogance otherwise is laughable.  I think everyone understands what is going to happen next week so go thump your chest on the OAC board regarding the game.  Let there be a glimmer of hope for the few Larry fans on this board.  You're playing a team that has won less games in the past 4 years than your team won LAST year.  We get it.  All hail Mount Union!

LD --- you may not used to me being serious, but I know skunkssidekick personally (I'll let hscoach explain how well because its rather embarrassing), and he's anything but snarky on here.  He's genuinely interested in what he's asking about... mostly because he went to a MAC school and should've studied his craft at a Division III institution like the rest of us... Well whatever, all i've been reading lately is talking down about the East, Delaware Valley, and then the 'anti-climatic' comment which pretty much did it for me, with a few seemingly somewhat sincere questions mixed in.

It's bad enough that St. Lawrence is representing the LL(and this is not a shot at them winning the LL, but that they are .500) but to be so pompous, as I read it, is un-needed.  Let St. Lawrence be excited.  They haven't had much to be excited about since Ford was in office and we have to read that garbage.

'Oh, so tell me about your school!  I'm very very interested.  It's great learning about these other schools, even though they shouldn't even bother showing up to games because they suck so bad and we're so mighty and powerful...'  I say Piss off!

While I don't think skunk meant any harm, there was a bit of implicit (if subconscious) condescension in the remarks.

Frankly Mount Union, prior to 1985-86 was always in the middle of the pack or worse in their conference, and few winning seasons in the 50 or so years prior.  A great group of players, a couple hometown guys who returned from D1 schools a trip to the playoffs, (so exciting) and the arrival of Larry Kehres turned things around and the momentum grew and grew...
So, regarding any uppity Mount posters, we veterans remember the pre 85 teams and know what you are going through.  Enjoy the trip, if you come to Alliance, safe travels and I hope your team plays a great game.
Believe one thing, Larry Kehres and his team will NOT buy the David/Goliath stuff and will prepare with all due respect to your team

Thanks RaiderPa.  As the sole SLU fan on these boards, I didn't take offense.  We're pretty good at poking fun at ourselves anyways.  LewDog is just missin' his buddy EngiNegro, so he is cranky.

We're excited for the playoffs, but more excited about the prospect of SLU becoming a consistent contender.  The new coach has turned the team around in short order and we hope to see more of it.

Raiderpa beat me to it. During our time there we scheduled Hiram for homecoming so we could have something to celebrate. One of the coaches, (who was also a the Track coach) convinced me to quit so I wouldn't get needlessly hurt and risk missing track season. One of the highlights of those years was a tall skinny kid from Diamond Ohio who showed some talent at QB, later Larry Kehres showed a good deal more talent as a football coach and athletic director, although he did get his first conference championship as the swimming coach despite not knowing how to swim.

Mount currently has one of the better Women's Basketball teams in D3 and has enjoyed great success in Track and Cross Country.

My fellow OAC board members would slap me silly if I dared speak as if I knew anything about academia, but I did spend 36 years, in, out and around Mount Union. I loved it so much I just didn't want to leave (not)
