Re: Coaching.  We all know it can be an seemingly unfair profession at times.  Your career often is at the mercy of others above you.  The administration, AD, Head coach if you are an assistant.

If you want to make it a career then you need to be willing to move and have your "life" disrupted by decisions made that are out of your control.  It's what you sign up for when you decide this is what I want to do.

Re: the RPI situation watching from afar and having a vested interest for 4 years it was like similar to situations that play out across many AD's.

Older coach that did great things for the program and rescued it from the abyss

Same coach very successful on and off the field with a very successful W/L record and managed to recruit fairly well

The team maybe underachieved a bit near the end of said run and with that some glaring game decisions that created some fan/team/player? questioning see NJ playoff game

Young assistants that were unsure of the coaches long/short term intent and left (I would have loved to see Chad Martinovich be assured of the job...he subsequently left to be HC of MIT)

My two cents... let's see if the new guy can get it done.  D3 recruiting is certainly a different landscape than D1.

By the way, all we have left to do now is find Hobart a ninth game, and all with be right with the Liberty League again.  TGP, how we doing with that one??

TGP is finally emerging from a great skiing vacation....and sees there's lots of catching up to do on the boards (even 'gro emerged from his winter hiberation to say "what up")!

Interesting news re Coach Landis and Surace.  Good luck to both....

Re your question Frank - for better or for worse Hobart is sticking with 8 games (hence my "Pool A or Bust" mantra for 2011) with the Cornell "game" likely to be slated for the weekend of 9/10 or 9/17.

Quite an offseason in the LLPP so far...

Worry not, TGP.  We're all still trying to grasp the idea that Butler, a #8 seed, is the most-experienced Final Four team in the mix... and that either a #8 or #11 seed will be playing for a national championship in one week.  The shock will wear off by Thursday in time for Opening Day of MLB.

This move is still strange though, as college coaches with histories like Landis simply do not go in the direction he did unless the money is more or close, or if he went to the school and wanted to lead it, or if he was simply looking for a job at the last second.

Landis had been unemployed for the last six weeks - so the RPI money was a lot more than the zero he was making.

Was this post HONESTLY necessary, true or not?!  You have nothing better to do than to try to undermine a coach that deserves a fair chance to prove himself?  A post like this does nothing productive -- Landis is the coach and the decision will not be changing based on something ugly like this.  I may not have liked the process or been in agreement with the end result, but even I know enough to say Coach Landis deserves a hell of a lot better than this form of BS being tossed at him.  And that last sentence comes from a friend of the King family who believes greatly in Coach King's legacy.  At the end of the day, your post backfires since I have more reason to actually like Coach Landis now -- you're making him seem more and more like the underdog here.

What were the circumstances with Landis leaving San Jose State?

First post eh?  Obviously someone with an agenda. Bet you feel pretty awesome for writing that don't you?

Brady Hoke left for Michigan and I assume that Landis was not re-hired when the new Head Coach came in.

And I don't think that's unusual. If someone is trying to make the point that Landis shouldn't be hired because he was technically unemployed, well, that describes hundreds of coaches every year.

Plus, I really don't see what was wrong with the original post of Coach Landis being unemployed from San Jose St.

I bet this applies to WELL more than just coaches....  :-)

Wow... It just gets stranger and stranger over in Troy...

BREAKING NEWS:
Joe King accepts Defensive Coordinator position at RPI on interim basis in order to aid transition for Tim Landis.

Hope everyone is having a good winter/spring (it's not too shabby in the southeast - Lew, I might have to see a couple of small banks down your way in the next two months) after a long hibernation.

Bart had a tough fall w/some talent, but a big ??? at QB...hopefully Strang is healthy for the fall.

Interesting news in Troy.  Good luck to the new staff.  Please ignore any tapes of Hobart running a fake punt or any other crazy plays.  It's not likely to come up in the future, Mike Cragg is a conservative dude.

It'll be sad to move on to the Nescac.  At least we'll get to see how a former LL team squares off vs. that conference.

What?????  We're not joining that conference, but we're only playing 8 games next year?

Well, at least Mike Hanna's gone.

You're kidding, he's still there???  After the 2000 playoff filing screwup, as well as all the lax f'ups over the last 15 years (ask the W Genny coach how he feels about Hobart after the O'Hara firing) including the "08 we're going DIII (after handing #15 Loyola they're jockstraps as they crawled off the Boz), no we're not", firing another popular alum coach, Kim Kimber and the NCAA filing f'up (again????) that led to NCAA sanctions.  And the guy still tries to defend himself on TWC, crying about an "arms race" (inferentially that he's unequipped to handle) in DI LACROSSE w/12/6 scholarships for 40+ members, as if that's the difference between picking up talented kids who are going to Siena or Fairfield.  How about Cabell Maddux (TGP, I know you know about that one) or Streeter loving the William Smith students a little too much?

Thanks for listening.  Back to your regularly scheduleed programming about the Purple Drank, a combo Donkey Punch/Swirl move.  good luck to all,   Enjoy your summers w/o picking up any unnecessary felonies.  Will check in down the road to see what chaos has occurred.  PA
