Mr. Ypsi

K&J's Dad, at least your rapist was immediately expelled (though not informing the staff is unconscionable).

At Ypsi Hi, my older son went most of 4 years without EVER going to the bathroom (due to the marijuana smoke) - we dealt with urinary problems without ever knowing why until later.  [My younger son, I hate to say, reveled in the smoke, though I think his participation was only before and after school.]  Today's principals deal with problems that (in some cases) they cannot be expected to deal with if no one comes forward.  In the case of Ypsi Hi, I could smell the pot from outside the building (I came of age in the 60s and 70s - I KNOW the smell of marijuana ::)) - their obliviousness was clearly intended.

I have SOME sympathy for principals not knowing of sexual misconduct if no one has informed them - but FOUR FREAKIN' DAYS??!!

Sorry, haven't been around for a bit, but I have to comment on this....

What is up with the D3/Andy Dick trailer?

A silly guy who's made his name off of being a homosexual/psychopath representing Division III football and this site posts the trailer?

Pat, you should be ashamed of yourself....DIII football could use some attention, but do you think this is the type we need!!!

Disgusting.

PG, you have no problem with the way D3 Football and Andy Dick depict the system in this trailer?

Andy Dick depicts himself as a flamboyant joke in any role he takes.  Did you see 'Old School'?  This is his niche.

Maybe its me......I just don't think this is the type of attention we need.

PG, lets have Andy Dick represent himself as a Brockport St. grad and the programs resent struggles in D3....same thing.

FYI,
PG called me a bigot and took down his post between my previous 2 entries.

I had deleted my quote to try to rephrase it but you must have seen it pre-delete.  Yes your post read like it was bigoted.  How dare someone who is flamboyant and plays a homosexual stereotype represent football!

Being flamboyant is his thing.  What's wrong with that? That's just his thing.

I think it's just a comedy, and from what I understand, it was created by a D3 guy.  I think that more than anything else is the reason I think it is being promoted here.  I could be wrong.

Of all the things that could be taken as wrong with this movie, the "flamboyant" thing never once crossed my mind. Should have figured it would be a problem for U89.

Nah -- if there's an issue with this it's that it looks like it's making fun of Division III. But as pg04 points out, it is a former D-III player writing and directing a feature-length film with D-III in the name, so at a slow time of year I am embedding the trailer on our site.

Agree to an extent, but remember some guys like Gourrier went to NE prep school (NMH).  Kind of like saying Hobart's done well bringing in kids from CA (e.g., Strom) but some of the other guys went thru PG or other NE prep schools (e.g., Hobart's Connor Garrett did play HS FB in San Diego, but he came to Hobart via Hotchkiss).

Oh snap - page 3000!

And you are only one post away from 3000. Outstanding.

The two things that made me wince the most about the movie trailer were the perpetual abuse by the coach of his players and the quote, "This is Division III and he's treating it like it's Division I with the Marines."

There was a lot of buzz in this part of the country after a Division II basketball coach abused his player during a practice.  It was discussed in a fairly serious manner among the sports community.  So seeing Andy Dick hit a kid in the head with a folding chair was jarring.  I'm not against the cartoonish humor of violence but those scenes made me wince.  Especially since they made up most of the site gags.

You can't judge a movie by a quote, but I'd rather not see a movie where the underlying assumption is that coaches and players taking Division III football seriously is ridiculous.  I think a lot of people already have the assumption that Division III football is a novelty.

That said, it's a comedy so it's not worth getting too agitated.  And the line about the team looking like a PSA for rickets made me laugh.

I somewhat wonder about the NCAA's feelings about the use of the name "Division III" (or "Division 3").  One would assume the NCAA has trademarked and protected the name and would have some issues with the use of the name in the film (especially as the title of the film).  Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Good to see that Tim Landis has begun to put together his staff.  There were two hires announced late last week:

Offensive Coordinator:  Guido Falbo (UMass-Amherst assistant with graduate coaching experience at Syracuse and CFL coaching experience for two seasons) -- His D3 experience includes D-Coordinator at St. Lawrence for one season and LB Coach at WestConn.  More here:  http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2011/4/13/FB_0413114424.aspx

Defensive Coordinator:  Bob Bodor (Colorado School of Mines (D2) assistant) -- He has extensive D3 experience, including Hartwick D-Coordinator for 3 years, Albion D-Coordinator for 5 years and Colorado College Head Coach for 5 years.  More here:  http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2011/4/14/FB_0414113517.aspx

Welcome to both coaches to the Liberty League!

I have never seen a registered trademark and since many states use it in their athletics alignment, I don't think that's an issue.

The NCAA may have feelings but I am not sure they could act on them.

Thx Rev and k+ on becoming an old married guy just like TGP.

That said TGP's got some Hobart (and other LL news) for his 3000th post:

Hobart signs Poughkeepsie All-State DE Tyre Coleman and Hastings OT/DL Ali Marpet according to Section1Recruiting.com

At the bottom of this link you'll see other LL signees such as Ryan Hackett (brother of Connor) going to SLU and Connor Eck of Rye going to Union.

U89, I think you are a little off here dude.  I don't think a parody movie is going to 'deface' Division III athletics.  I mean, how many people took movies or shows like 'The Longest Yard', 'The Waterboy', 'The Program', 'Major League', 'Happy Gilmore', 'Blue Mountain State' etc etc etc and really took them to be more than face value?  It's a comedy.  It's going to be hilarious.  And my boy Scot Ruggles makes his feature film debut in it as well.  He even made the trailer around the 1:24 mark.

I watched the movie short on youtube and it looks to be hilarious.
