Some lady at work was telling me how she had a pajama party at 4:00 in the morning to watch the wedding live. I asked her why didn't she just Tivo it, she said that it wouldn't be the same. I said, you'd still be in Dallas watching a wedding between people you don't know, what would the difference be? She said that I wouldn't understand. Which was a compliment, I think.

Of course, I think much less of this woman now.

True, good point. My negative thoughts on the lady, though, was about the 4:00 Pajama party with friends to watch a wedding (although I'm usually a fan of female pajama parties, but you get my point.)

Got the traffic report as I do every morning, then decided to check out the freak show for about 5 minutes.  It will be good to get some commoner blood into those inbreds.

On to more important things.  Got a barred owl in the hood.  JT used to do the birdwatching thing, but wife hates bugs, and you can't do one without encountering the other.

Heard it the other day.  Found a call on youtube, put it on my mp3 recorder... played before it got dark today.  Brought him really close.  Hopefully his calls attract a babe and he stays for a while.  Plenty of mice and other critters for food.

The barred owl, once you hear it, you'll never forget it.

Thanks, JT, I was haunted by that sound camping last summer and never did figure out the origin!  I gave a creditable imitation of the sound to every employee I could find, but no one knew.  Of course, with budget cuts, there are NO naturalists at the campground.  Maybe barred owls are rare in Michigan?  I'll have to check.

Still not as 'haunting' as a loon!  THAT is a haunting sound - I love it!

EDIT: Just checked out the range of the barred owl.  The more likely conclusion is that all the people I talked to (and me! ) are idiots.  No state campground worker (nor I) should be unfamiliar with the call of the barred owl.  A VERY distinctive call, and a not at all rare bird in SE Michigan.
