Today The Rev took Mrs. Rev to the OB-GYN. Ultrasound revealed that Lil' Rev (a.k.a. Thumper) is a boy. We saw what appears to be the tallywacker on screen today. If we mistook the penis and it is really a girl, then it seems that Mrs. Rev is going to give birth to a softball player.

Due date is still Sept 11.

Great news Rev.

Rev, you should start a twitter account.  I would bet you could get a few million followers in no time.  Great stuff.

The most surprising thing to me surrounding the killing of Osama Bin Laden?

That $1 Million buys such a sh*thole in Pakistan. What a dump. Who knew that Pakistani real estate market was so hot?

Thanks, JT, I was haunted by that sound camping last summer and never did figure out the origin!  I gave a creditable imitation of the sound to every employee I could find, but no one knew.  Of course, with budget cuts, there are NO naturalists at the campground. :(  Maybe barred owls are rare in Michigan?  I'll have to check.

Still not as 'haunting' as a loon! ;D  THAT is a haunting sound - I love it! 8-)

EDIT: Just checked out the range of the barred owl.  The more likely conclusion is that all the people I talked to (and me! :D) are idiots.  No state campground worker (nor I) should be unfamiliar with the call of the barred owl.  A VERY distinctive call, and a not at all rare bird in SE Michigan.  :-[

Used to do a big trip to the Everglades every year... deep in, stick your toe in the water at the very end of mainland Florida deep.  Place called Flamingo, Fl with bungalows, every January.  Group of about 20 of us.  Gators, Florida panther, deer, 100+ species of birds, canoeing., etc.,  Typically one needs a serious amount of bug spray.  Some years were worse than others.  One year was 12 mosquitoes per square foot, but it was probably the best year for wildlife viewing.

Perhaps I need to try just plain old camping first, and ease MJT into it.

It is a nice big owl.  He was checking me out after I played the call.  Hopefully, he stays a while and helps me with my mice problems.

Indeed.  I've always been partial to the name Gordon for a boy.

Another first for the UColl Dutchmen. They made the NCAA Lacrosse tourney with a 2OT win over RPI for the LL title, and AQ to the tourney. Following the hockey teams first ever berth in the NCAA DI Hockey tournament, quite a year. Too bad we can't get our act together in football...

The Rev meant to post this the other day in honor of Mother's Day.

Nice mention doid +k. ****ing great when we defeat RPI in any sport. This is a solid step for the lax Dutchman and their coach. Hopefully they will have a respectable showing in round 1 and continue this years success in 2012. dlip hears they have some really solid young players.

The Rev is apparently one of the few Hobart a muni who thinks we should go back to D3 lacrosse. I'd rather phase the Statesmen play solid LL rivals like Union and RPI than to keep playing Syracuse and Cornell. We stay in d1 basically to placate those alumni for whom two historic rivals are more important than present and future success. Lacrosse has become too developed and too widespread for Hobart alumni to imagine that we would be perennial champs like were were prior to going to d1.
I think Hobart would still be one of the best in America, but championships would no longer be the expected outcome.

Agreed. I think Hobart is a fish out of water in DI lax. Can't offer scholarships, and the "glow" of the DIII dominance in the 80's has faded. That being said, I get how important the Syracuse and Cornell rivalries are, too bad the NCAA can't figure out how to let them continue playing if Hobart went back to DIII, where they still would be a strong contender. The LL is starting to get some lax momentum, and adding RIT (#1 ranked this year) to the mix of St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Union and RPI will only make it stronger. Hobart also has a ton of good lax in it's backyard (Nazareth, Cortland, etc), and could play a national schedule as well.

Given the reaction to the announcement that they were returning to DII, can't imagine that it will happen.
