A sad day for fans of the ole WWF (I am one).  RIP Macho Man!!

As was I, big fan of Jimmy "SuperFly" Snuka. I remember going with a few guys to see a WWF show at the RPI Fieldhouse. Great article on Savage from Bill Simmons:

Outstanding reference, Doid. Did you notice this gem of a line in the article?
QuoteHis interviews were phenomenally bizarre and undeniably entertaining, and, by the way, he might have been the first wrestler to refer to himself almost entirely in the third person.

The Rev wonders if Macho Man may have inspired the LLPP's use of the 3rd person when referring to ourselves, but The Rev was not yet a member of the LLPP board back when the self-referential 3rd person began.

Enginegro and LewDogg11 have a special memory of Macho Man. We met him at the most romantic place on earth. Fat Tuesday in Cancun Mexico ala Spring Break 2000. He was walking around, all geared out in his Slim Jim propaganda when we asked for a quick picture. The always gracious Savage answered 'Heyyyyyyy, couple of big guys eh?  You can be on my team any day.'.

RIP Macho Man

Forget the LLPP board, I noticed that line, and wondered if Macho Man started the ENTIRE third person trend in sports.

Found an invaluable website/database that lists the colleges that NFL players attended. There are THREE former Saxons who played in the NFL, two more than Pep had previously known about. Here are all the NFL players who had attended current Empire 8 and Liberty League colleges:

Colleges not listed did not have any NFL players among those attending said institution.

Just something to ponder while waiting for pre-season camp....and BAND CAMP '11!

One note: Springfield is not a LL game yet.  That will begin next year.  It is a 4th OOC game for Union this year.

I want to publicly congratulate Coach John Audino and AD Jim McLaughlin for creating what I believe to be the best schedule for Union in at least a decade.  First, the team starts a week early (normally, Union never utilizes the opening weekend -- so kudos for the change).  Also, the momentum of the games is perfect (first game is a game you should win, second game is a game that you probably should win, but a bit of a challenge compared to the first game, and the third game is a flat-out challenge).  This sets the team up well for the actual LL schedule.  In addition, it's the first time Union has played a ten-game schedule with an open week actually inside the schedule (10/22).

I'm not just grandstanding on Union here... I've promoted this type of schedule for a while.  Pool C isn't an impossibility with that strength of schedule (although, the SOS numbers can play games with football schedules under the present computations, as we know).  Most importantly, compared to last year, the team will not enter the league season with limited experience.

I'm thoroughly excited for the 2011 season:  93 days before kickoff!

That's about two more wins per season than a potentially elevating Liberty League team would have at an FCS-non scholarship level for the first five years.  Just sayin'...

Schedule looks great Frank. dlip is very excited for the upcoming Football Dutchman campaign. dlip thinks your interpretation of the schedule is spot on.

He is intrigued by the Salva game and it's possible implications on Union's reputation. This game could be more tell-tale than many think. To dlip, Union needs to make a statement here and come out of the corner swinging. The possibility of going into the Bombers game (in Shocktown) 2-0 is exciting. Of course dlip is getting way ahead of himself here and only thinking out loud. Believe dlip, the U could go into the Bombers game 0-2 as well (yet he does not think this will happen).

This looks like a great schedule. The Rev is envious of a full season and good OOC games. The Rev really wishes Hobart had been able to fill its schedule this season. The Rev thinks that Hobart had better go undefeated...or else. Rev, paranoid man that he is, suspects that the school administration wanted a schedule that is not conducive to playoffs because the marxists running the place hate sports--it smacks of bourgeois elitism.

Frank, what are the implications of Hobart's truncated schedule in terms of play-off berths? DO they have to go undefeated as The Rev suspects?

Jonny Utah

Union is doing what Ithaca has always done with their schedule.  Fill it up with as many teams as possible, and reduce the number of overnight trips as much as possible.  It doesn't matter if the teams are top ranked, bottom ranked, public, private, or whatever.

Well played LD. At first, I thought the 2 win comment was just a random shot, it wasn't until I looked at Salve Regina's records over the past few years, that I realized that Union only won 2 games last year. Wow, talk about repressing some bad memories. I had to stare at it for a few minutes before it sunk in. Ouch.

Last season is the one everyone wants to forget...except for the boys that dress like giant turds.

Rev, Hobart would likely be equated more like a 2-loss team, even with just 1 loss, if they finished 7-1 (when compared against 9-1 and 8-1 teams).  That said, I hear there may still be a 9th game for Hobart on its way.  More when it's confirmed.
