Union is doing what Ithaca has always done with their schedule.  Fill it up with as many teams as possible, and reduce the number of overnight trips as much as possible.  It doesn't matter if the teams are top ranked, bottom ranked, public, private, or whatever.

How would that explain Salve, then?

Pool C is a tough draw with 2 wins.  Just sayin...

Well played LD. At first, I thought the 2 win comment was just a random shot, it wasn't until I looked at Salve Regina's records over the past few years, that I realized that Union only won 2 games last year. Wow, talk about repressing some bad memories. I had to stare at it for a few minutes before it sunk in. Ouch.

Ha.  It actually surprised me too.  I thought they had atleast 3 or 4.  2 wins is a tough year...but it made my ability to throw a dig in so much easier and more effective.  :-)

Ithaca has played NJAC teams when they couldn't fill their schedule with closer games.  I am assuming Union did the same and there were no closer games to schedule.

Maybe MIT wasn't available?.. ;)

I agree that it is a positive scheduling move, the 10 games, some building up of opponents leading up the tough games, etc. Just something about Salve Regina makes me wince.

Lots of eye candy on that campus. Not that they'd flinch at me when I drive through in my Gremlin.

One note: Springfield is not a LL game yet.  That will begin next year.  It is a 4th OOC game for Union this year.

I want to publicly congratulate Coach John Audino and AD Jim McLaughlin for creating what I believe to be the best schedule for Union in at least a decade.  First, the team starts a week early (normally, Union never utilizes the opening weekend -- so kudos for the change).  Also, the momentum of the games is perfect (first game is a game you should win, second game is a game that you probably should win, but a bit of a challenge compared to the first game, and the third game is a flat-out challenge).  This sets the team up well for the actual LL schedule.  In addition, it's the first time Union has played a ten-game schedule with an open week actually inside the schedule (10/22).

I'm not just grandstanding on Union here... I've promoted this type of schedule for a while.  Pool C isn't an impossibility with that strength of schedule (although, the SOS numbers can play games with football schedules under the present computations, as we know).  Most importantly, compared to last year, the team will not enter the league season with limited experience.

I'm thoroughly excited for the 2011 season:  93 days before kickoff!

Schedule looks great Frank. dlip is very excited for the upcoming Football Dutchman campaign. dlip thinks your interpretation of the schedule is spot on.

He is intrigued by the Salva game and it's possible implications on Union's reputation. This game could be more tell-tale than many think. To dlip, Union needs to make a statement here and come out of the corner swinging. The possibility of going into the Bombers game (in Shocktown) 2-0 is exciting. Of course dlip is getting way ahead of himself here and only thinking out loud. Believe dlip, the U could go into the Bombers game 0-2 as well (yet he does not think this will happen).

Am I the only one who first read this as "He is intrigued by the Saliva game..."???  ;D

After surviving the last year of recruiting with my son, I will say the Salve coach is a very upbeat and positive guy.  I was pulling for my boy to go there but we ended up at another school.  I liked what he was selling!

Irony last year was that Salve's former head coach (Chris Robertson) debuted as WPI head coach against his former team last season.  Salve was stalwart in the 6-3 victory against their former coach.  It was an emotional game for Robertson, as he discussed on last season's "In the HuddLLe" when we interviewed him after that game.  As far as class goes, both Salve and WPI have pretty good reputations in that department -- so it's nice to see Salve in the LL mix every year.

Hey Fellas,

Iamhuge is back. He posted on the NECSEC board. The Rev thinks his son must have chosen Tufts.

The Rev loves iamhuge, and hopes he will pay a visit to us on the LLPP.

Knightstalker

Of course he chose Tufts.  It is natural, he is huge, they are the Jumbos.

Huge has been playing in Grove's new sandbox since his son chose F&M.

Yes, Huge's son was a player at F&M last season as a freshman:

He played in one game and registered one tackle (I'm guessing on Special Teams, but there's no distinction made in the stats).

You know, if you remember the fact that I'm female... that sounds dirty. :o

LOL.  +k

On the other hand, I've heard plenty of both euphemisms and pornographic slang for various parts of the female anatomy.  I shudder to think of what 'sandbox' brought to your mind! ;D  SANDBOX??! :o
