dlip looking forward to heading down to Frank Bailey this week to catch some Dutchman practices and check out the team. Hoping for a turn-around this season, it will all start week #1 for the U in RI against Salve. To dlip in regards to the U's past and tradition this game is a must win. Aside from that, dlip is just looking for a solid performace that will give some hope to the Dutchmen and get them moving in the right direction here in 2011.

Meep Meep...Union Football coming through....

Something needs to be done about those socks.  They look like they are out of the early 90's for crying out loud.

Union's 2011 prospectus from unionathletics .com:

Nice to see Justin Gallo back. dlip is looking for big things from the Gallo brothers in 2011. On top of this Andrew Connelly returns as well. Drew is an excellent passer with a huge upside. dlip would like nothing more than to see this young man have an excellent senior year. Also note on defense Sr LB Steve Modliszewski returns for his senior campaign. A very athletic, strong, and aggressive defender who led the team in tackles last season should have a big year. The dutch D needs him to step up and help make some big stops in 2011.

I don't know about 2011 per se, but I've always though Ernest and Julio put out a pretty decent product for the price! ;D

[Sorry, probably a pretty old joke by now!  ::)]

LL ranked 19th out of 27 Division 3 conferences, ouch  :-[ Honestly, a very accurate ranking IDHO and unless LL teams pick up some out of conference W's the league will continue to lose respect on a national level.

Will commissioner Gro be running the LLPPFFL again this season?  Curious posters are curious?

To dive into the LL's OOC opposition in 2011 and chances of success let's take a closer look at the OOc games for LL members so we have an idea what the conference is up against.

Hobart -Just 2 OOC games but big ones if you ask dlip. With Bart coming into the 2011 as the highest pre-season ranked LL team (63rd  :() they have the opportunity to establish themselves and debate a possible low pre-season ranking with two OOC wins against decent competition. SJF losses Bailey behind center but has a very good athlete in Kramer who may take snaps like his brother did years ago.
9/3-@Dickinson (#138)
9/24-@SJF (#47)

MMA -MMA plays four OOC games, two of which are home vs pre-season top 35 teams in Springfield (#33) and Hopkins (#32) and overall three out of four are home. The Pride homoginized MMA last year 64-0. Losses also came at the hands of rivals Coast Guard (#215) 10-8 and SUNY Maritime 41-34. MMA has the ability to win two of their four OOC games. To dlip it is imperative for the LL's reeling reputation that they do.
9/3vs Johns Hopkins
9/10vs Coast Guard
9/17@SUNY Maritime
10/1vs Springfield

Rochester -U of R plays three OOC games in 2011 against two foes that defeated them in 2010 and one they surprised. dlip looks for U of R to realistically have a shot at winning one of the three contests but is hoping for two wins  ;). Last season CWR (#61) defeate the Yellowjackets 14-10, SJF beat up the Yellowjackets 49-21 behind the arm of Tim Bailey, and favored Alfred lost to the Jackets 24-14. Facing the same three opponents will be very difficult for Rochester but with a strong finish to 2010 U of R has some of us hoping for some noise here.
9/10@Case Western Reserve
9/17 (neutral site) SJF
10/29vs Alfred

RPI -The Engineers bring some of the unknown with a new coach at the helm in 2011. dlip is looking for more consistency and leadership from QB Mike Hermann this year and a defense to step up and be strong. Last year the Engineers, who also won the Shoes trophy, were inconsistent OOC. They defeated a very good Alfred team (#18) 27-24, lost to an up in coming team in Utica (#145) 42-21, and then were embarassed by SJF in an ECAC game 56-13. This year dlip looks for RPI to win two of their three OOC games and regain some momentum for the LL. dlip feels the Engineers will defeat Utica this year at home and handle new comer Castleton St (#158) at home as well. A tough assignment on the road against the Saxons though and dlip definitely won't look down on RPI if they don't take this game.
9/10@Alfred
9/17vs Castleton St
10/8vs Utica

SLU -The defending LL champs had an excellent year in conference last year taking the LL title but were an embarassing 0-5 in OOC games in 2010. Don't get dlip wrong, he was very happy for the Saints and their new found success in the LL but when being objective, it was hardly good for the LL when you look at the Saints dismal performance against teams outside the LL. dlip looks for SLU to go o-for again in their three OOC contests in 2011. On the road against Alfred will not be fun. Also they will be on the road in Vermont against Norwich (#91) who defeated the Saints last season 25-14, and home against Utica College. dlip looks for SLU to maybe have a shot at either the Utica game or possibly some revenge on Norwich but he does not see it being the case. He hopes for the best.
9/3vs Utica
9/10@Norwich
9/17@Alfred

Union -The Dutchmen ventured into new territory last season winning only two games and finishing below 500 for the first time in many many years. Union had zero success against some very good OOC competition. They were sloppy and unprepared in a loss to Ithaca (#42) on the road last year and were hammered by Salisbury (#26) on the road as well. Union was all heart losing to The Pride of Springfield last season 26-15 in which dlip felt was one of their most impressive efforts of the season. In 2011 Union opens on the road against Salve Regina (#129) and Utica (#145). They continue their OOC schedule at home against The Bombers of Ithaca and Springfield College. dlip is looking for at least two wins and is hoping for three. It is hard to read the Dutch in 2011, especially since dlip misread them so badly in 2010. The Salve game is a must win in dlip's mind, especially when comparing the LL the the NEFC. If Salve wins this game it means one of two things: the LL is that bad or the NEFC is getting much better. Both thoughts suck to dlip and will be moot if the Dutch take care of buisness like they should and win.
9/3@Salve Regina
9/10@Utica
9/17vsIthaca
11/12vsSpringfield

WPI -WPI comes into 2011 as they have come into many LL seasons; trying to make a name for themselves in the conference. Well dlip is focusing on OOC and that is where Tech must win at least one of the three contests to help the ll hold some water. They start off with Div II opponent Merrimack (whom aside from hockey dlip knows absolutly nothing about) on the road, travel to Worcester St (#186), and then finishes off against Becker (#233) on the road as well. In 2010 WPI defeated Worcester St and Becker by a combined score of 82-20 and dlip expects much of the same in 2011. Although the points for WPI may be significantly less but W's none the less.
9/3@Merrimack
9/9@Worcester St
9/17@Becker

Conclusion It is man-up time for the LL in 2011. OOC results may not matter to some fans of the LL but to dlip, the national perception of the LL, the league dlip loves, is important. And that perception is getting worse and worse Last year the LL as a conference received a preseason ranking of #10 (he believes, Pat is he correct?) In 2011 that ranking has fallen nine spots and rightfully so after very poor OOC results in 2010. Let's wish for the best fellas (and ladies "the Grove) for our LL representatives in their 2011 campaigns.

Pat Coleman

The LL was actually 13 when last season started but still, much higher than 19th. We don't really publicize the links to previous conference rankings in Kickoff, apparently, but you can take the current rankings and change the URL to:

Rochester -U of R plays three OOC games in 2011 against foes that pretty much beat them up in 2010. dlip looks for U of R to realistically have a shot at winning one of the three contests but is hoping for two wins  ;). Last season CWR (#61) rocked the Yellowjackets 45-14, SJF withstood a late Yellowjacket rally to hold on for a 35-33 win, and Alfred took the Jackets to the ****ing woodshed 51-14. Facing the same three opponents will be very difficult for Rochester but with a strong finish to 2010 U of R has some of us hoping for some noise here.

I think you may have been looking at the 2009 results for UofR here, dlip.  CWR squeaked by, Fisher took them behind the woodshed and Alfred peed the bed in 2010.
