Some thoughts on Union's big win over U of R this Saturday:

-dlip really does not need to list Union's offensive numbers against the Yellowjackets, they were damn impressive and there is no question in dlip's mind that this Union team is a very strong offensive team that can hurt their opponents. This may be one of the best offensive 1-3 teams in the country, maybe.

-Union's D gave up 16 first downs, 10 of which were in the air. Union's secondary continues to struggle more so than any dlip can remember. Also, if you are giving up 310 yards in the air against a team like U of R you can be beaten by anyone in this league.

-Union's rushing continues to excel initial expectations. The O-line is playing well and these young runners are growing up in a hurry. 210 yards on the ground, nice ;D!

-Only 2 penalities and no picks, beautiful. This equals a winning combination and if Drew can keep the ball in Dutchmen hands only, Union has a chance to outgun their opponents like they did yesterday.

-Union won the TOP game. Union's O needs to keep that D off the field as much as possible. We saw yesteray that they can/will allow teams to get back into games once the offense loses some momentum.

-Union's receivers, Justine Gallo (14 receptions), Chase Richey (3 receptions), and Connor Gallo (4 receptions) are proving to be quite reliable. dlip is not a big fan of Justin Gallo but his skill and athleticism are unquestionable. Congrats to him on another great game. Kid is nasty and cannot be covered one on one.

-Adam Henry is good!

Again, overall this was a huge victory for Union. Not only does it end the 9 game losing streak but it breathes new life into the Dutchmen here in 2011. Next week they face a WPI team that will come into Frank Bailey field very high after defeating RPI to win the Transit Trophy.

I wouldn't worry about the passing yardage. 150 of them came long after the game was decided

How is a 7 point game already decided?  Am I missing something?  Even if Union had a big lead and let U of R come back towards the end, the fact it was a one possession game means one fumble, interception, fluke play, etc. could tie the game...not exactly decided.

Fair point. I'm just saying, teams with big leads--and Union was up 38-13 with 1:07 left in the third--tend to relax their coverages and allow passing yardage. Now granted, Union nearly screwed the thing up by allowing Rochester to come back

We had a tremendous guest lineup tonight on "In the HuddLLe" to help kick off our Liberty League conference game analysis.  If you missed the show, you'll definitely want to listen to this week's archive, as:

- Hobart Head Coach Mike Cragg discusses his team's rout of St. John Fisher, the way to counter spread offenses and candidly speaks about his expectations and expected responses for the St. Lawrence offense and defense next weekend at the Boz;

- Union senior wide receiver Justin Gallo talks about his three touchdown receptions, his thought process and reasons concerning his return to Union this year to utilize his year of eligibility and his outlook for the team going forward; and

- WPI senior defensive back John Perron, whose three turnovers helped solidify WPI's hold on the Transit Trophy, discusses the changes he noticed in the RPI gameplan compared to last year, the Union game coming up next weekend and the futures of both him and his team.

We also had a jam-packed "Around the League" recap with over 15 radio highlights and "Lightning Predictions" to close the show.  For the archive, point your browser to http://inthehuddlle.com over at BlogTalkRadio.

Also, for a brief video recap of the week's action, check out this week's Liberty League D3report as Tom Santa Barbara joins me to discuss the Union/Rochester game and the other Liberty League results and for a Justin Gallo video interview.  It's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHVrsL8RWt8

Good show on Sunday. The Rev needs to get his time zones squared away so that he can listen to the show live and maybe even make a call from Korea.

Loved listening to Coach Cragg. Forthright discussion. No nonsense. The Rev was scared of him back in the day because he could get intense in a big way. What a great coach and a good man. As an alumnus, it is encouraging to see the kind of loyalty and dedication he has shown to Hobart. Not to mention what a fantastic job he did taking the reins from Coach Maxwell and turning Hobart into a perennial contender.

The Rev misses his annual football trip to Geneva. No direct flights from Korea, if you can believe it.

RPI lost a good man this week.  I'm not going to say much, the article kinda says it all.  Prayers and condolences to Pat's family.

Aside from that sobering news, is everyone just out on the LL season?  I haven't posted too much this year, but a lot can still be salvaged.  There's still some OOC games, one NCAA bid and possibly someone can come up and grab a ECAC game and knock of a favorite there.

Hobart looks good.  I'm drinking the orange kool-aid.

Let's see how they hold up.  They've always gotten tripped up somewhere and I still don't know how our DT's get it done against bigger OL's (unless they're practicing against ours) and the secondary has two young, unproven guys.  Definitely sold on the idea that Strang is an upgrade from Vella and it's the best talent at the skill positions since the middle of last decade:  Muratori, Woodard, Karbowniczak, Webb, OFarill vs. Souzzi, Blackowski, Pinero, Feane.  The current cast has as much talent (Muratori may even be looked back on as Souzzi's equal, which is unfathomable prior to this season) and is 2x as deep.

Was extremely happy with last week's performance though.  Even with it, all the talk is that Fisher's no good (slight exaggeration) and that even if Bart runs the table they're probably still well below the other conferences.  I don't believe that, but I'm biased obviously.

dlippiel

dlip has been trying to stay active here. :D To dlip, the conference race is going to be very exciting. The parity between the teams has increased tremendously and the three headed monster is ****ing gone. As of now Bart is the only team that dlip thinks could warrent even an incling of national attention, he is hanging with Lew here and drinking the pumkin juice like a deprived ****ing step-child. dlip can't wait to see how this weekend shakes out. He will throw some LL picks down soon.

Condolences to the RPI family, LD.  Was there the other night when SRT found out the news -- very sad.  Also, Kevin Flike, former Union player who had been sent out to Afghanistan, was apparently shot in the abdomen and has a shattered hip as a result.  Last I heard, he was flown to Germany and will be returning to the US any day now.  Very troubling across all fronts.

I hate that this happened.  SF lost a buddy Memorial Day 2010 to some BS like this.  Group of drugged out gangbangers kicked his head in until he was gone.  My condolences.

I really hope they are able to find the guy responsible for this.

****ing punk ass pussies.  I hope they catch them and send them away to Pats unit and let them dispense some Military justice on their punk asses.  My prayers go to the family, friends, brothers and sisters in arms of this hero.  Very typical behavior of a soldier, sailor or airman stepping in for others when something is wrong.  RIP and God Bless.

Very sad news fellas. dlip sends his condolences out to any and all.

Is anyone going to stand out in the rain tomorrow at Frank Bailey with dlip and his ****ing galoshes?
