Agreed. Ward 8 is pretty bad but Ward 1 is not in the federal core and yet is a decent place to be. Wards 2-4 are very nice. I think this has been established, though, and it not worth revisiting here. Those guys can take it back to the politics board.

Last one, but I lived in DC for a few years and think it's a great town.  I could leave the people behind.  Too many bars where people want to ask you if you're republican or democrat when the primary goal (pre wife, who I met who went to AU) is to say whatever's necessary to get in a girls pants (there's probably a great corollary with politics here).

Sorry Grove if you're still around, for the mysogyny, but it's true.

Now if you'd have said anything near the Anacostia is a s**thole, I might agree, but that's a small part of the town.

On Football, this was by far Hobart's worst offensive performance to date.  3 TO's in the first half cost them a bunch of points along with burning timeouts with confusion.  The bright side is that the front four, even without Tim Murray got intense pressure and only gave up 84 yards total.  Tyre Coleman is going to be as good or better than Rob Gould and Dave Russell if he stays healthy.  Overall, it's a B- performance because the O was so disjointed.

You have to like the fact that they played horribly and won 23-0.  SLU got nothing going and basically was 3rd a 10 the entire day.  I see RPI and Union scoring a fair bit, but have a hard time seeing either getting to 21 on Hobart this year, but I'm fascinated to see if Union can salvage some self respect with what would be an upset this year in Schenectady next Sat.

I was finally able to listen to another RPI game yesterday.  1 thing I can say is that they have a lot of heart.  They seem to never give up, even if overmatched or outplayed.  Rochester didn't have a punter and it seemed destined to kill them at some point all day long and eventually it caught up with them.  Field position ended up being a killer.

That said, RPI's defense, despite giving up 24, improved a lot.  RPI's offense gave UR the ball in great field position a few times(on the 1 yard line on one turnover) so the 24 points is deceiving.

And as far as UR 'giving the game away'.  RPI missed an XP, a FG, and bad snapped a FG on like the 6 yard line.  So both teams had their share of miscues.  UR's punting issues ultimately killed them.  And RPI's turnovers in their zone and giving field position was an equalizer.

While I don't see a ton out of the LL in a regional aspect(outside of Hobart at this point), this could be an exciting year for the league crown.  I think Union, RPI, Hobart, and WPI could all battle.  It shall be interesting.

With a homer comment, I'm hoping this win for RPI helps gel this team.  They have moments of blinding brilliance and if the defense can improve and the offense continues to come together, they could make a late season run.

Go Pats!

I think RPI's problems this season are the same as several teams in the LL -- defense (specifically defensive line) issues.  We're seeing some undersized lines compared to O-lines, and it seems to be accounting for these oddly high scores in most games (we must be averaging 50 points per game right now in combined scores -- or darned close).  The problem with this is that it makes every game a crapshoot (well, it's a problem if you're hoping for consistent performances from certain teams).  Giving up 21 to Castleton in the first half after giving up 6 straight TDs to Alfred in the previous game gave me a queasy feeling on behalf of Coach Landis, but obviously, the RPI defense stood up in the fourth quarters of the last two games.  That in itself is an oddity since it seems like no team can play 4th quarter defense except for maybe Hobart this season.

Long story short, if teams that play Hobart can help knock Hobart off twice, then the LL is a wide open affair.  The bullseye is blatant and obvious this season, and the last few weeks have solidified that fact.  Five teams have that chance -- 40% need to succeed, or it's Hobart's crown this year.

Ha! No offense taken. Although, as a female, my experiences in the DC area were way different. Then again, I didn't really do the bar scene and I'm not some cute chickie into whose pants a lot of guys want to get.

I hated DC because everyone was waaaay too self-absorbed. I remember dropping two bags of groceries in front of my apartment door once. Two guys (around my age, even) were walking by. Never even stopped. Such gentlemen.

Congrats to the Union Dutchmen on their second hard fought LL victory in a row defeating WPI yesterday at Frank Bailey field. Union's offense played quite well and even their defense, at times, showed a little, just a little, glimpse of decent play. To dlip, it was the defense's best game of the season. Their is no question in his mind that this team does have heart and for that dlip is certainly proud of the Dutchmen. Frank makes a valid point regarding D-line lack of size vs O-line size, but in the past, we have seem some smaller, faster teams on the defensive side of the ball really compete. Union's d-line did work their asses off for sure with Kevin Quillinan #91 making some solid, hardfought plays throughout the game. dlip was also happy to see Connor Beerworth pushing up and putting some pressure on the quarterback. IN dlip's mind Union has to be more aggressive trying to rush the passer. He realizes it is difficult though, especially when you can't depend on your secondary for any consistency and coverage. A team's job is to get better each week and so far Union seems to be doing that to an extent. Next weeks match-up should be very interesting and exciting. dlip can tell you one thing, if the D doesn't step up even more than they did today, Union will be in trouble, solid offense or not. Great W U!!!

Hats off to WPI for their effort and dlip really feels for their QB who fumbled at the end of the game. Not sure which QB it was but it was just a simple slip out of the hands as a result of the ball being wet. A tough way to end the day for a real competitor. Also their secondary seemed to really challenge Drew at times making him take hard looks and possibly hold on to the ball for too long. dlip wishes this Engineer team good luck and feels they deserve some credit for a hard fought game.

As far as the LL is concerned, it is going to be very exciting. Obviously Bart is the favorite, they have been dlip's pick since the preseason for the LL title. Yet if someone can knock them off the LL title may be up for grabs! This league may not be holding much water on a national level but within itself it is a great league to watch this season.

Speaking of Union, Head Coach John Audino was our "Coach's Corner" guest on "In the HuddLLe" tonight.  We also had Austin Caswell of the RPI Engineers join us to discuss his outstanding performance against the Rochester Yellowjackets this season and RPI's take on the remainder of their schedule.  Eric, James and I had a chance to also assess the league standings and the East Region's overall scenarios in terms of the "East Region" Bracket (to the extent there is a bracket populated by mostly East teams).

Take a listen at http://inthehuddlle.com -- it will be archived there this week and in the future.

The Rev took a trip to DC a couple years ago. Stayed near the Navy Yard on USCG business. Not bad. The Rev liked the stadium where the Nationals play. The area looked like it is getting swanky after having been a shizzithole for a while. I guess they call it "gentrification." The Rev used to live in a swanky neighborhood--Broad Branch Rd NW, just a couple clocks from Connecticut Ave. Very nice, up there by the Chevy Chase Circle. The Rev worked at a sammich shop called Pumpernikles. If any of you are ever up there near the 5600 block, stop in and imagine a young Rev piling up the corned beef and saurkraut onto rye bread.

The Rev is ambivalent. There's so much about DC to like, yet so much to dislike. But as Le Guru noted, that's better for the politics board.

The thing that stands out in The Rev's mind is how everyone at the parties in Georgetown tried to size each other up by what law firm they worked at. It was really something to see a bunch of 22 year old paralegals judge each other based on whose slave they were. I made sandwiches, so naturally every chick blew off The Rev. Of course, as a sandwich maker, I was pulling in more per hour than the self-aggrandizing paralegals and had way better hours (and all the food I could eat). It was nice to know that, despite being the lower than the dogshizzit on their shoes, they would call me if they needed food.

Northwest Jersey about 15-20 miles from the Delaware Water Gap.  Very rural in Warren County, growing up my closest neighbors were Holsteins and Jerseys.  Most people not from NJ never make it out here, it is not off the Turnpike.

I know exactly where you are.  I had a buddy out there 80 to 81 was my Rte to Binghamton to see my parents, then head up to Geneva.

I consider that a high tax burden part of Pennsylvania where you are.  It's a shame Allentown has gotten so beat up.  Warren and Morris County are both very nice.
