How close was RPI to pulling within one possession with under five minutes left (although, remember, down by 10, they went for it from the 3 instead of attempting the FG)?  Here's a still of the 4th & Goal play (#21 Jonathan Stidd with the open-field stop on #37 Matt Wood):

Remaining LL Playoff Scenarios:

HOBART

1) A win vs. RPI or Rochester; or

2) Hobart loses two, Union loses to MMA, Rochester loses to SLU and WPI finishes below MMA in the final conference standings.

----

UNION

1) Hobart loses two, Union beats MMA;

2) Hobart loses two, Union loses to MMA, Rochester beats SLU/Hobart, RPI beats Hobart/MMA (Union wins four-way tie at two losses); or

3) Hobart loses two, Union loses to MMA, RPI loses to MMA and beats Hobart, Rochester beats SLU/Hobart, and RPI finishes below MMA in the final conference standings.

----

RPI

Hobart loses two, RPI beats Hobart/MMA, Union loses to MMA, Rochester loses to SLU and beats Hobart, and MMA finishes below WPI in the final conference standings.

----

ROCHESTER

Hobart loses two, Union loses to MMA, RPI loses to MMA and beats Hobart, Rochester beats SLU/Hobart, and MMA finishes below RPI in the final conference standings.

Counselor,
I do not know how you manage to keep track of all the permutations. Excellent.

Not to sound cocky, but The Rev thinks Hobart will indeed take the LL this season and go at least two rounds in the playoffs. Despite the frequent turnovers against WPI, this year's them seems better across the whole roster than in the past.

The Rev hears rumbling from SJF fans that a rematch during playoffs will show the world who is the better team. Reminds me of the time I beat my friend Dave in a race and won a ribbon he coveted. He demanded that we race one-on-one after school, after which he said I would have to relinquish my ribbon to him. The Rev refused. I won the ribbon on that day for that race, and no other race could take away that victory. But sometimes The Revs wonders what if he had beaten Dave a second time--would that have shut him up? not likely. It would have led to a series of races the last one being the one that I lose, thereby proving that Dave was faster. Y'see?

Absolutely. He probably would have knocked the wind out of me and then shouted "go".

If only video cameras and you tube had existed when I was a kid. My friend Dave and my whole class would have been world famous as the most obnoxious group of sugar-fueled little turds ever. The nuns were saints for putting up with us. Someone should have killed us all and buried us under the parish parking lot when they repaved it.

Day late and a dollar short, what's new for dlip?  ;)

The Shoes Game:

dlip wants to start out with some praise for the Engineers. The RPI players were very focused and intense throughout the entire game. dlip did not see one Engineer (playing or not) who was not dialed in and intense. That was an excellent effort by RPI and dlip definitely gained some respect for the players on that team on Saturday.

Total offensive yards:

Union: 506
RPI: 390

Wow, this was an offensive shootout for sure, with both teams piling up the offensive numbers on a mother****ing cold day in Shocktown. Both teams offenses were impressive on Saturday. Union had the slight edge though, both in the air (335yds-309yds) and on the ground (171-81). Union's O-line and runing game continue to impress and help open up the air for Connelly and company. TJ Franzese was excellent, showing a great ability to make pinpoint cuts and explode in small spaces. To dlip, who is also a huge Thomas and Shuck fan, TJ most likely solidified his place as the team's #1 back. Both Gallo's excelled with Drew Connelly continually hitting his targets (including Jimmer Bennet!) at key times.

Mike Hermann impressed dlip with his improved accuracy and play making ability. His statue of Liberty play was down right nasty and execuded to perfection. Even as a fan, dlip was faked out of his britches. There is a reason why a kid with his size did not get recruited hard enough to play at the next level, but, Mike H continues to grow as a QB and team leader in all facets of the game.

The defenses were ****ing awful on both sides period. At times, they both had some flashes of solid coverage and tackling but overall, just poor. Union is just so compeltely lost in the secondary that it is scary to dlip. They have improved though, and for that, dlip gives them props. Still, this D is obviously the weakness of a team that could be VERY good, if they could get more stops and any consistency from their defensive unit. On the flip side dlip feels the RPI coaching staff needs to have their heads examined for not doubling up Justin Gallo on Saturday. How the **** do you leave him in single coverage for most of the day? dlip gives props to the DB for the Engineers covering Justin. The kid was busting his ass all day long! He received very little if no help but never gave up. The coaches let him down, and the team as a whole, by not doubling up on Justin. If it were dlip, he would openly double Justin on every down without question. He would make Justin and Drew either beat them by working through the double coverage (which they did at times) or make the other offensive players have to beat him. Just DLHO that's all.

Players of the Game:

#3- Mike Hermann- Mike was 23-33 for 309 yards with 1 TD in the air and rushed for 23 yards. His 2 INT's really hurt the team, but overall, without him, the game would not have been close.

#2- Drew Connelly- Drew was quite accurate and only had one mistake the entire day. He was 18-29 with 335 yards and 5 ****ing TD's. He also scampered for 15 yards! Drew was as accurate as dlip has seen and really came to play and lead this team. His decision making was solid and consistent. He did an EXCELLENT job of distributing the ball to multiple offensive options which helped to keep the RPI secondary on their toes. A great game for Drew, and dlip couldn't think of a better way to end his career against RPI than Saturday.

#1- Justin Gallo- Please, this is just not fair. Justin absolutely tore apart the RPI secondary proving to be uncoverable. dlip loves nothing more than a player that let's everyone know exactly what he is going to do, and does it anyway. Justin's game was very impressive, he ran routes well, got excellent seperation from his defenders, and excelled all day long. 9 catches for 115 yards and 3 TD's takes the cake for dlip. Congrats Justin!

Congrats to Union on this great victory over arch rival RPI. To dlip, this is a HUGE win for the Dutchmen and Coach Audino. This team has battled adversity all year and continues to battle to be the best Dutchmen team they can be. This may not be the Union Football of old, but to dlip, the work ethic, gradual improvement, and never ending show of heart, has won dlip over without a doubt. Congrats to the Union College Football Dutchmen on a great victory.

*dlip also wants to give a shot out to Union's DB#6, John Campell, who had a key INT on Saturday. dlip has been, and will continue to be, very critical of John's play, but, dlip is VERY happy for John and feels this kid is working hard and never giving up. Good luck to John for the rest of the season!

THE SHOES ARE BACK IN SHOCKTOWN BIATCHES!

Great write-up, dlip. You give Mr. F. Rossi, Esq. a run for his money providing quality U commentary.

The Rev is a little envious of Union and RPI. Hobart doesn't really have a consistent, historical arch-rival as your two schools do. Sure, union and RPI are good historic rival of Hobart, but there's a real sense of being the third wheel in that relationship. You have the shoes, we have the Frozen Cat Turd. It just doesn't have the same Zing.

There is also very good commentary/discussion about East bracket over on the fan poll page. Good stuff all around these days.
