Tonight on ITH we will be joined by . . . RPI senior quarterback and NFL prospect Mike Hermann.

Nice.

Perhaps RPI Alumnus and Defensive Coordinator for the NFL's own New England Patriots--Matt Patricia, can discuss Hermann's prospects with ITH sometime soon.

Later in the season, scheduled to appear is Wade Davis, a former Weber State graduate who took the long and tough road as an undrafted free agent into the NFL.  He later went on to NFL Europe and is now one of the very few past NFL players who has come out as openly gay.  We'll be discussing both aspects with him (how to make the trek from a smaller school to the NFL and about his own personal experiences with sexuality in college and professional football).  I believe KMack is going to join us for that interview.

If you have an "in" with Mr. Patricia, maybe we can discuss Mike's specific prospects on the same show or another show (we can always prerecord such a spot).  Feel free to private message me regarding that.

Also, Dr. Tony Strickland from the Sports Concussion Institute will be joining us for the third consecutive season to discuss the advances in protecting athletes from head and brain injuries -- obviously a hot-button issue in the wake of the Junior Seau suicide this past off-season.

We have an exciting season lined up already, and last night's show was content-filled with Coach Mike Toop from USMMA, junior quarterback Dean Kennedy from U of R (we edited the recording so that his interview follows Coach Toop's for those who missed it after 9pm) and senior quarterback Mike Hermann from RPI joining us.  We also discussed WPI football with Matt Noonan from the acclaimed NoontimeSports Blog (http://noontimesports.com).  If you've never listened to the show before, this is one to listen to in the archives at http://inthehuddlle.com (choose the 9/9/12 show).

I'm not saying you're wrong, but they do have a bye week after their 10/28/12 game.  That falls at a point during which we would still be on the air.  Never hurts to ask...

You gotta also take into account the fact that NO ONE from the organization talks to anyone(and likely aren't allowed to, especially during the season).  And my comment wasn't directed at you, (I think you get it) I just felt like the request was a little over the top.

Yeah... The first move is to always send the request through the Patriots' normal media channels.  I doubt it would be a question for him of whether he'd want to do an interview with us (we'd also discuss Coach King's induction into the RPI Hall of Fame since he played and got his coaching start under him), but more about whether or not he's allowed to do it.  Still a nice thought, and we'll pursue it (no guarantees).

Anyway, LD, I'm curious about your RPI assessment this year, especially after the team manhandled Alfred Saturday.  Did it change your overall expectations at all for the season?

Well, I think my expectations were pretty high from the get go.  They have a veteran team and a lot of good players.  My issue was how they would respond with the coaching roller coaster.  So far so good.  From what I heard, Landis was awful.  Who knows how good Alfred is, but as of right now, that was a big win.

I had originally predicted 6-3 with Alfred as one of their losses.  I had Springfield as another, and my assessment of Springfield might have been off too as they haven't started too hot.  Union looks to be down again but that game is still a toss up each year.  To me, Hobart looks like the biggest, and potentially only huge hurdle.

I don't want to put too much emphasis on one game, so I won't, but not beating teams they SHOULD beat has been RPI's big downfall for years now.  If they can keep it together and beat who they should, with their schedule, I could see 7-2 to 9-0.  They SHOULD go at least 6-3 every year, IMHO.  I'm hoping they're back and we can get behind Coach Bodor.

Been a crazy month or so for PA, but wanted to drop a quick note (in between naps around PA Jr's, class of 2034, schedule) for any LLers still left.

Weird and tough start to the season for the league.  As a passionate alum/loyalist of Bart, I can honestly say (as I posted on the E8 board a second ago) that this is definitely the fastest, most talented defense they've had since I've been involved back to call it the mid 90's.  As good as a few of their defenses or individual players have been, I have no doubt about this.  The front 6 (Tyre Coleman, Auriemma, T Johnson, Guarino Hyde, Worthington & Toran) is easily the best overall group I've seen and some of the secondary guys who've played the past two years, but have been pretty unhealthy are all generally healthy (except one guy, DelPeruto) easing my concern about the secondary.  I really believe this defense is top five in the country.  The offense has the potential to go toe to toe and make a lot of big plays, but they've looked like s**t so far.  That and the penalties will be their downfall if one is to occur during the season.  I guess a lot of emotion comes with the talent, but guys, you can't retailiate even if you're getting illegally cut or otherwise cheapshotted (is that a word?) on the reg (not the poster, but an ode to Kenny Powers).  Webb has to get his focus, the talents ridiculous, but he has way too many mental lapses and I know it's enticing to see 10-25 yards of open field but you (Souffrant, amongst others) have to secure the catch before you can get all that YAC.

Obviously I'm hoping the entire league drops bombs on the rest of they're OOC schedule and improve each week (except for the week they play against Bart, of course), but man I really love what Cragg, Yoder and DeWall (whom I've been pretty critical of in terms of his offensive playcalling, but he's a smart, hard working, good dude for sure) has put together this year.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.  I just hope to make it to the end of a 7pm game with a 3 week old ruining my REM cycles at the moment.

We're planning on having at least a #2, possibly #3, at some point, we'll see.  Either way, as Sebastian Bach once sang, it's 18 & life (just kidding, but I do expect to have him of the teet by 22).

+k for a 3 week old and the 20-25 years before you can rest easy

20-25 years?  Jeesh!  What'd your kid go to Cortland?

If you think you stop worrying about a kid while they are in college, I suspect you haven't gone though the experience yet.  Did you forget what you were like while getting your "higher" education?

And one went to Oswego and one to Rochester

No, I haven't been through it yet.  But whether or not you 'worry' about your kids in college, they are going to do what they will do.  To be honest, I was a lot worse in the 5 years AFTER college than I was during college.
