Hobart's main beef could be they beat Fisher H2H, won their league (while Fisher finished 2nd in theirs) and still got a worse draw than Fisher in the playoffs.

Still, it was the Statesmen's own fault for only scheduling 8 games and not beating a (then) 3W RPI team after being up by 21 pts and going undefeated.  Fisher got the better draw and took advantage, hence their higher ranking to start 2012, which to Pat's point, shouldn't be dinged going into Week 7 for their only loss being a close game to a higher ranked team.

Honestly the SU game made me believe in Fisher for the first time this season.  Their prior wins were not impressive, downright lucky (esp for a top 10 team) in several respects, especially considering the current W/L of the teams in question.

While it was a loss, the Cardinals proved they were in fact a top team by giving the Gulls a good game IMO.

I'm not too worried about Hobart's current rank. I didn't like last year's playoff seed, but that's over and done with.
This year Hobart needs to do two things to prevent itself from getting dinged in the polls and in playoff seeds. Just two things:

Beat RPI

Beat Union

That's it. Until we do both... Meh.

Slow week for LL and LLPP.

Poor Merchant Marine. Geez.

It was a rough one.  Still, the RPI - UofR game was very good, if not one of the best LL games so far this season.  We've invited Reggie Colas on the show tonight (in btw UMU's Lenny Reich and Dr. Strickland).

With SJF falling Hobart could crack the Top 10.  The updated D3 poll will be out by the time we're on the air, so we'll discuss that and preview the big Hobart-RPI game tonight at 7:30.

4-1 Alfred ranked 21st with a 24-6 loss to unranked 5-1 RPI?  What does everyone think.  I already discussed this.  But you'll need to listen in to my podcast where I have a phone conversation with HollaDawg during my 45 minute dump while playing words with friends.  What did HollaDawg have to say?  Listen in....

I touched on this after coming back from Troy a month ago, but I felt like these teams were equally matched however Alfred didn't call a game designed for their personnel.  Since then, Alfred has focused on the run with success.  In Troy I felt like the Saxons would pick up 5 to 8 yards on first down and then get sacked on 2nd.  I think both teams are squarely in the 20-50 range in the nation where the outcome comes down to matchups and execution.

I don't know.  Alfred has 3 impressive wins in a row.  I'd say Alfred has drastically improved since week 1, or RPI really screwed the pooch against MMA.  Or both.  I agree with the ranking to be honest.  Losing to MMA is a black eye.  But if RPI can continue to win, it won't matter in the long run and maybe can be a learning experience.  It seems to be the curse of the LL that the league is so skewed and inconsistent that the better teams don't always show up for the lower level games and gives the chance for a major upset.  Been happening to RPI on a regular basis for years now.  Then they get up and beat Hobart.  Makes no sense.

It's been awhile since I've voiced my opinion on this forum.  The LL is now going into the critical run of games that will determine this years champ and the same "big 3" are in the mix.  Hobart & RPI will get after it Saturday and we all know that game shows a history of surprises.  I'll be focused on Union which had a well placed bye week to recover and build on it's momentum.  I look for the "U" to come out strong Saturday against a solid Rochester squad.  A well played, overall game is what coach Audino should be looking for, and of course a W.  That would set up the stretch run with tough Hobart and RPI sandwiched around an always troublesome and disciplined MMA.  Could this year's Union team pull it off?  Earlier in the year after lackluster performances against Salve and Utica and the Ithaca meltdown, I called Union a "bad team".  While winning three in a row they've showed me to be wrong.  My bad, but I'm loving it! Go to a game, bundle up boys and enjoy.  This is why we all love D3 football.

+K Gotta love it.....where do I find that podcast....and have you considered prune juice?

Pep's father, at a family gathering, quite amused, told how he had learned that the likely reason the terrorist attack aboard an airline in Detroit a few Christmases ago had gone awry was because the would-be terrorist peed his pants, causing the plastic explosives concealed in his underwear to not properly detonate. To which Pep replied, "Was he flying Incontinental Airlines?"   ;)

If any Hobart players lurk on this board, I have a message for you.

BEAT RPI!!!

There is nothing else to think about, say, or do just beat them this year.

dlippiel

dlip previewed the U of R/Union game on his blog if anyone is interested in a bit of a breakdown.

Hobart defeats RPI 35-24. It'll be close for a bit but Hobart will pull away.

TheGrove

Well, since it's a slow week, thought I'd let my LLPP friends know that there will be a little Grovelet come April!

LL schools will be acceptable for the Grovelet to attend as long as ya'lls tuition doesn't break me.  ;D At this point, I'm not sure we'll be able to afford Susquehanna by then.

dlippiel

Congrats grove!!! Dlip wishes you and your family all the best!!!! Big game for Susquehanna this weekend. Good luck!
