USTBench

Can't tell too much from the highlights (outside of the fact that Wittenberg can't tackle), but it seems Hobart has a very mobile D-Line and Tyre Coleman can wreak havoc. Coleman and the rest of the Hobart Line v. UST's All-American center (Gagliardi Finalist) Curtis James and a UST o-line that has gotten 5th string RBs (who haven't even made the travel squad before) 100 yard rushing performances is going to be one of the more intriguing matchups to watch. Not too often that's said about line-play, but it looks like two of D3's best going at it.

UST is known for primarily stopping the run. I know D3Football has them listed as a 4-3, but they play more of a 3-4 with the OLB's playing very close to the line of scrimmage. Scottie Williams and Elmhurst had a lot success running the ball against UST last weekend, and I think that has a lot to do with line-play, UST can over-pursue sometimes, and when caught out of position that's when the big chunks of yards can be gained. Thus far, only two teams (Elmhurst and UW-Eau Claire) have had a decent success running the ball on UST, but it seems Steven Webb is certainly capable of that if Hobart gets going early. One thing to be noted, UST's secondary can step up and tackle and are asked to do so often.

Outside of that, UST's talent at the skill positions are a little bit more spread out than usual. It used to be they relied heavily on two playmakers, but don't be suprised if someone that wasn't even on the depth chart a week ago winds up getting their number called. Inside the redzone there will be a lot of nakeds and for some reason our TEs (Logan Marks and Matt Allen) seem to be left wideopen on a routine basis. If that happens on Saturday, be very frustrated that someone blew an easy assignment, because that's the worst kept secret we have, but it seems to never get figured out. The biggest suprise of the year has been the RBs. Kaiser and Braddock were 4th and 5th on the depth chart to start the year, and now they get the bulk of the carries. Kaiser is big and physical, Braddock has great speed.

Hobart is going to have to run the ball to do well on Saturday. Strang (if he plays) is quite athletic and throws the ball well but seems to do better with the short sweet stuff. The success of the run helps his game quite a bit. The back-up (mentioned earlier by PA) has a very good arm and played quite well against a ****ing nasty Wesley team last year. USTBench is correct in his assessment of the D-line, they are quite good and Colemen is just a ****ing beast. This will be his biggest stage for sure and hopefully he will excel and really push UST's O-Line and throw the O out of sorts. dlip has seen Tyre take over games and dominate much more experienced O-Linemen before. UST's line will almost definitely be one of the best Colemen has faced and may prove too hard to handle. We shall see.

dlip agrees though USTBench, this match-up looks to be a great one and hopefully both teams play well and get through the game injury free (with a Pumpkinhead victory of course  ;)). A win for Bart validates all of us East posters and our bitching about getting a ****ty wrap. **** even a very close game will do this IDHO. Yet a blowout by UST (which dlip just does not see) would really hurt the East's reputation. Clearly this Bart team is one of the best to come out of the East maybe since SJF of 2006.

We'd love a chance to play in the Catdome.
I don't think Hobart's situation is all that desperate against UST. No doubt UST is a good team and the real deal. But on paper Hobart and UST look pretty evenly matched. I think Hobart is going to pull it off. I just hope that when I wake up tomorrow morning (Korea time) my heart is proven correct.

Dlip is really looking forward to the games today! He is pullimg for the Statesmen big time but just doesn't know what to think about the possible result. He can't help but feel UST is going to edge it out. Who knows one thing dlip knows is when he doesn't know...today he just doesn't. Good luck to both teams. Dlips hopes for an injury free great game with the mother****in LL rep Pumpkinheads getting the BIG W!!

After Fisher's experience at St. Thomas last year I am really pulling for Hobart today. Represent the East well boys!!!
