Thought y'all might like to know that The Grovelette arrived last Monday! 7 pounds, 11 1/2 ounces, 20 inches long. We'll see whether or not she's allowed to date LL boys in about 20 years. Check that, 30.  ;D
Congratulations Grove. Does she have a Susquehanna onesie yet?
Actually, now that I think about it, that might be a little bit difficult to squeeze onto a onesie. Probably have to be a Coe alumnus to make it work. Anyway, congrats again to you and Mr. Grove.

Congrats Grove!  Try and get some rest during that first blur of a month.

Now, when she does get around to dating an LL guy, will she steal herself a trophy (husband) and then head back down to CC country?
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

I can't wait to see the rubble and ruins of that disgrace called the NCAA... The last sentence in this story says it all. It is coming like a runaway train and the NCAA is going to be blown up and couldn't happen to a better organization... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-02/the-lawsuit-that-could-bring-down-the-ncaa.html

I still don't get the d3 arguement (from the Big 10 people).  Even if the Big 10 did go d3 (which I assume would only mean that players don't get scholorships and spring practice would be limited), the crowds and interest in a Michigan/Ohio State game would still be the same, and the NCAA would basically make the same money off the same players?  So why would moving to d3 even matter?

It would be funny to see the radical changes to Pat Coleman's website though!!  He could make millions!

Players would be free to negotiate their own deals...ncaa would not be able to make anything off the players w/o players receiving compensation. IF this were to hold true in court the liability is huge. What no one has said is does this also pertain to title IX sports...women's softball images etc... If for example OSU were to go down to D3 they do that and no scholies/etc true...but if your a player and can negotiate your deal to get paid for your likeness are you going to go to OSU and not get paid or a school on the DI level and get paid as well as exposure for a chance to play professionally? Schools that decide to stay in DI will become in a sense minor league teams for the pro leagues. Then you could possibly have schools bidding for players and offering them all different amounts of money to use their likeness.

That would all depend if d1 presidents decide to bid on "players".  I just don't see that ever happening.  It ceases to be college sports anymore.  And those institutions like "Alabama Crimson Tide" and "UCLA Bruins" are what bring people to the games.

I would also assume that OSU wouldn't drop down unless others did as well.  If Ohio State goes d3, they are going to make sure Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Florida, etc go d3 as well.

What you might see is the larger institutions getting together and basically forcing themselves to leave or change.

which is what should happen the ncaa has been out of control for years with no consistency in rules/regulations/handing out sanctions/etc the list goes on and on...heck they couldn't even keep their own people from breaking their own rules while investigating univ of miami...they have not acted in the best interests of schools for a very long time. it's time for the schools to band together and push out the ncaa which is what several large university presidents are calling for and might happen. ncaa has too many pigs at the trough feeding and can't control themselves anymore....

For what it's worth, The Rev's sister is a professor of sports history (and related subjects). From what i can tell, she does mostly work about black athletes. She is of the mind that student athletes are indeed exploited by the NCAA and by their universities. So, she is hoping O'Bannon wins.
Me, too. I'd like to see NCAA taken down a notch or ten. Even if the big schools went D3 (which I find highly unlikely) I doubt it would adversely affect their programs. People want to see Notre Dame because they are Notee Dame, not because they are D1.

Thanks for the link, Frank. That story was great. Boy, how I wish he had played for Hobart. I pray it makes it with the Chargers. if he does, I may just have to move back to Yuma, AZ so I can go to his games.

What a great article! dlip was always quite high on Mike Hermann's ability and performance at RPI. dlip is now just a huge fan wishing the very best for Mike. He has earned everything that is coming to him! Goe get'um Mike!

hopefan

Wow... heck of a story....  as an RPI grad and former hoops coach, I will follow Mike's progress every way I can.... hope you guys will continue to let us know anything you hear.... thanks....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

And RPI continues it's beastly scheduling ways with filling out it's 9th game with perennial powerhouse....NORWICH.  So we have Norwich, Alfred, and Castleton St.  I'm a big fan of 1 doormat, 1 intermediate, and one beast.  Instead, we have 2 ECFC beasts(sarcasm), and Alfred who could be more in the intermediate level on most years.  Such a shame.  How about growing some balls and throwing a Fisher/Ithaca/Rowan/Montclair type on the schedule?  Shoot, i'd even respect a Hartwick game more than this!!!  It's embarrassing sometimes to be an RPI fan.  Unfortunately, if they are doing well, it's a shocker when they hit Hobart and Union towards the end of the year, rather than being battle tested.
