Both.  Started drinking after the Union game for Ga Techs homecoming, but am still fired up.  Unions guys were coming across the field and running their mouth before the game and throughout.  The officials made them come out separately to start the second half because of it.  We get called for a personal foul when Webb comes over to defend Troy Robinson who isn't being allowed to get up long after a tackle (open field play, not a pile up at the line).  A player on the Union sideline who wasn't even in the 11 on their offense on the field yanks Worthington on their sideline after a play that went out of bounds over there.

It was completely out of control from the warmups.  Hobart hasn't behaved like that all year and has nothing to gain from mixing it up when all they want to do is get out if the game healthy.  (They didn't as we lost two OL, a starting DT our backup RB and a backup TE)

That wasn't intensity.  You played and know the difference between tough and sometimes getting out of control and a game plan that incorporates this type of behavior.  They came out trying to have a streetfight Anchorman style.  Ultimately it did nothing to change the outcome, but that's the sort of stuff where guys get unnecessary injuries.

In my experiences, Union was ALWAYS dirty, so I believe it...

Honestly, I would prefer to not waste Post #4,000 on a piece of **** like you, but why not?

So you're telling me that in this play, Berkowitz (the tight end) didn't come in from behind well after the whistle and slam the tackler who had tackled Robinson?  There's a reason he couldn't get up, Dumbass.

[EDIT: And while I'm at it, here's exactly what I wrote to an alum and ITH last night when I got tagged in a gloating Facebook post (I took it in good fun since the alum is a friend):  "DLip, Tom SB and I all walked away with the same impression: very good team, but not a great team like last year yet. They have the components, but execution still isn't perfect. Also, for as upset as James was about the penalties, Hobart was biting way too much for a team that has a lot more to lose than Union (and with more maturity from top to bottom). They have time still to become that "great team" from last year, but injuries are also beginning to hurt them. Right now, I see them as a second round out possibly. With big League games upcoming, they might begin to perfect their execution and get that momentum they need heading into the playoffs."

Maybe when you can actually add some value to an analysis of a team, including your own, I'll listen.  I barely post here this year, but I've been as honest as one can be about Union on the air during broadcasts and "In the HuddLLe," so don't come at me with any "hypocrite" BS because it doesn't play well for anybody that actually pays attention.  Instead of coming on here and supporting your team, you're going to cut down the other team with such outlandish BS that it undermines any authority you have.  For instance, on the series you described with third-string freshman QB Blake Geller scoring in 13 plays over 94 yards, Kazim HAD to play -- Union lost WR Matt Meile, who would normally have filled that second-string WR slot (but was needed to play first-string on four-receiver sets earlier).  Union doesn't have enough healthy receivers, and Kazim himself has been hobbled by ankle injuries.  For any three- or four-receiver set at that point, somebody from the higher string was needed.

In addition, penalties were being called BOTH ways -- nobody was a choir boy in that game.  Tom, who I defer to on such issues since he is a former ref, pointed out calls like the Berkowitz penalty and several others in both directions -- and he stated that what an official needs to do in that situation is grab both teams' captains and tell them flat out to gain control of the situation because, otherwise, the refs will take control instead and the players won't like the results as they'll begin kicking players out of the game.  The reffing crew decided to send that message instead by throwing more and more flags, and it was just exacerbating a bad situation.

What I marvel at is the level of whining you're employing when you know damned well that your team is #7 in the nation, and these things happen to #7 teams, especially when facing rivals.  It's intense, it's physical, and emotions run high.  The problem is this: you ain't seen nothin' yet.  Are you going to whine when Dean Kennedy from Rochester goes all Johnny Manziel on your team by giving first down motions after he runs the ball for one?  Are you going to petition the League to oust St. Lawrence when their linebackers lay in potentially questionable hits throughout next week's game?

I respect the Hobart players and coaches immensely -- ITH can confirm that, and so can the alums we've had on the show.  Devin Worthington is someone I always have pushed to have join us because he's a stand-up guy, and the St. Thomas situation last year was indeed depressing for everyone who knows Worthington.  Cragg himself said on the show earlier in the season that he had the conversation with the team about the bullseye that develops in these situations, in which opponents will take bigger risks and make more questionable hits in games in order to try to equalize a talent differential flagged by the high ranking Hobart possesses.

My best advice to you -- shut up.  You run your mouth, show a horrendous football IQ in the process, and end up embarrassing your school more than help it when you go off on tirades with no particular valid point.  Maybe come on here and praise Conlon's improvement and maturation and give kudos to special teams play that really was what won the game yesterday for Hobart.  What you did yesterday was pretty reprehensible and flat-out wrong, as dlip pointed out as a first-person observer.  But, hey, what do I know, right?]

WEOS announcers also critiquing the behavior of the Dutchmen and it's reflection on the coaching staff.  I am an Audino fan so this is a head scratcher for sure.  More on this game tmw night on the show.

Btw RPI is beating MMA 21-13 late 3rd qtr, so don't be too quick to crown them with the silver medal just yet.

Is WEOS a Hobart channel?  Sounds like PA wasn't alone in his thoughts????

ITH radio

Yes it is.  I am sure the Union broadcast had their own perspective too.

Ultimately I think TSB nailed it.  The refs could / should have taken more control.  If guys started to get ejected and there was a zero tolerance policy, both teams would have been better off.

He is alone on the extent to which he presented his thoughts. If not completely alone then definitely in a minority. The game was chippy for a while on both sides. Union came out emotional and Hobart feed in. By the fourth quarter the emotions had seemingly subsided and the class and ideals of both excellent coaching staffs clearly took over. In Dlip's eyes any who feels that Union was the only aggressor on the day has an agenda and let the intensity of the rivalry cloud their ability to objectively report what was happening. The whining and crying here is in very poor taste. Especially for fans of a team that won by such a large margin.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!

I love a good emotional board. Let it out! Verbal asskickery at its finest.

Sometimes I wish these boards were live, face to face. I want blood! There are a couple guys is gladly break a beer bottle over their heads and shank them with the broken glass. Maybe kick a couple in the face with my boot after I've trapped through a meadow full of cow manure.

Lay it down! Talk smack! Piss on each other's shoes! (But please do so with respect.)

Keep the fights going. I want to see who has the best insults. It's been a while since the last Insultathon.

mattvsmith

I'm disappointed that you guys showed restraint instead of going off half-cocked like The Rev when someone torks me off. Anyway...

I can't believe there are only two weeks left in the regular season. It's very painful to my heart.

Just read some of these responses.  No interest in debating this, especially in some intellectually inconsistent and bloviated manner, but feel free to take your concerns with my posts offline if you insist.

That being said, for my somewhat angry arguments about that game, please note that two defenders of the other side felt the need to tell me to shut up or shut the f up (in fairness, dlip appears to have reversed course and probably just responded in an emotional way himself which I understand and don't take any of this board posting personally as I've got too much going on elsewhere).

Like I said, feel free to discuss with me offline, but I've said my peace and only care about the ongoing opportunity and health of my Hobart's team/program.  Though an adult and a little different than my playing days when I would've been more "proactive", I'm still going to defend my guys until the end of time.

I won't be happy with this thread until someone gets stabbed with a homemade knife made out of a toothbrush San Quentin style. That's how The Rev rolls.
