Congrats Dlip on the Union win. Big week for Union. How would it be, if Union upsets this good Hobart team?

The skies have cleared ;) Union has won a football game! It appeared that Rochester may have hoped the Union slumber would continue but when the Dutchmen got an early lead thanks to special teams play(more about that later) the Yellow Jackets just couldn't quite climb back past them.Union seemed to be bolstered by the early points and said"NOT TODAY BOYS".  Kudos to coach Audino for preparing the team to compete for the win and congrats to the players. Rochester just plain ran into a team that was not to be denied. Now about special teams play. Over the past few seasons Union special teams have been abysmal, especially kick coverage. I am ecstatic to say HUGE improvement has been made. Saturday Union covered kicks, returned kicks, punted, kicked 3 field goals and BLOCKED a punt for the eventual winning TD!!!  As I have criticized the U staff for their special teams coaching now I must praise them for the complete turnaround. I just wish it was addressed sooner.   On to play Hobart with a renewed enthusiasm.  The Statesmen will be a tough opponent for sure. I agree that Tyre Coleman is a beast. I remember the first time I saw him vs Union in 2011 , Hobart had 8 sacks. Coleman, then a freshmen, had 2 of them and I said then "he is a man among boys". His dominating presence has allowed the entire Hobart defense to play aggressive attacking "D" and the rest of the LL has to pay.  We'll see if Union can muster any offense at all on Saturday.   I found myself sitting next to Dlip and his dad Saturday. They were watching the game from the "frat house",lawn, visitors side, of Frank Bailey field for a change. That's where I've been hiding out for 30 years! Great to meet you finally Dlip!

So it's down to Bart vs Larry next Saturday. Should be a great game on a grass field, old school defensive style.

I'll give Hobart the edge given SLU's struggles on offense yesterday. Only one offensive TD and WPI could have Made it more of a game in the 4th if not for two turnovers.

One hour show tonight starting at 7:30pm.

Clear message that SOS and rro a higher priority than national rankings or prior body of work in this initial set.

Or, apparently, common opponents.

Well SOS certainly seems to make a difference versus "body of work" as Delaware Valley is #1 based on Hobart's weak OOC schedule this year. A significant win against St. Lawrence may help the next ranking, but Hobart's schedule is what it is at this point. I think this Hobart team is a grind it out, don't make mistakes and look for stops/turnovers from a great defense, which might be enough to win a couple of games in the Playoffs especially if the weather becomes a factor. The Hobart offense is capable of throwing long, but have not executed much this year(nor had to) as a couple of long attempts from Conlan against Union were there but the recievers could not hold on, but if they did, the Union game would have been a real blow out. But watch out for a larcenist db core at SLU that has 17 interceptions this year! Hobart's ability to run the ball and have an efficient low risk passing game will be critical against SLU.As far as defense, a few completions by the frosh Union QB exposed Hobart's smaller secondary(although great hitters/tacklers) against taller or faster recievers with a QB that can really throw.  If  the St. Lawrence game is tight, it could be the first time that DeWall will have to use some of his "secret plays" especially if the run game is stalled by a strong SLU Dline. Moving on SLU's defense will take maximum effort, but if the Hobart offense has a good day, the playoff outlook will be brighter , and maybe the regional ranking.
Prediction: Hobart 21, St. Lawrence 10, with Hobart pulling away late in the 4th as the "run by committee" of Hobart wears down the Larry defense. Not enough of a point difference to change anyone's mind in polls or rankings, but an intense LL championship game.

Bart,

You might want to be careful throwing the weather factor. Many believe that win a couple year's ago was solely based on weather. I always say the good teams settle, the better team adjust.

Congratulations to Hobart and St. Lawrence on giving us a great game to the last second. Neither team gave up, time just ran out. The hitting was intense on both sides. Congrats to a Hobart freshman placekicker who stepped up with 1:03 to go. The last minute drive by SLU was valiant but fell short. Good luck to the Statesman in the Playoffs and St. Lawrence you are definitely strong enough to make the playoffs(the loss to Norwich is probably a killer unfortunately), as the NCAA will probably give a nod to the E8 for a second team, so Fisher will probably squeak in, but you should hold your heads up.
