Coleman was awesome. One of those rare physical talents where I kept saying to myself (or on air), "Did you just see that?  Did you see what he did?"

Yeah, I didn't know anything about Coleman before the game, but I saw him during the pregame thinking "man, that guy is pretty big."  He definitely stood out and certainly was a force on the field.

Since this "liberty league" page will soon die until next fall... What's the odds we see Tyre Coleman playing on Sundays next year? Would love to hear big brother Pat Coleman's opinion.

My opinion on what it takes to make the league is not a very informed opinion, just for the record. I am sure he will get a chance somewhere, though, and even if he isn't on an active roster next year, I think he'll have more than one opportunity to get a roster spot. But at 6-1, 258, I don't think he'll be playing DE in the league. He'll have to show he can play linebacker.

My $.02, which is based entirely on previous years' experience watching D-III players try to transition to the NFL.

He looks bigger than 6'1 258 on my little Ipad watching the live streams.  I'd say his best chance is to bulk up and play DT/DE in a 3-4 or DE in a 4-3.  He doesn't look that fast, and he doesn't really pursue backside like a NFL linebacker should (or could).  He will not be able to cover anyone in the NFL, so he will not be playing linebacker.  The Patriots get away with playing Rob Ninkovich at their DE (6'2 260, who also can't really cover anyone but is probably better than Coleman), so I guess you never know.

Nice name drop with Ninkovich.. But I agree. He's got a huge frame he could put muscle on for sure. Put him in an nfl lifting program for a year or so.. Ya never know.

Size wise he is comparable to Ninkovich. Not sure if Ninkovich is able to do what he does because of talent, Belichicks scheme, or both. Regardless, Coleman will have to work on special teams if he wants to make it. I know that Sam (SEC defensive player of the year) is not on a roster - but Jason Trusnik (Ohio Northern) is. I don't think Trusnik is faster or better - but Sam has said he did not want to do special teams and that is where Trusnik has proved his worth. It got him a spot and he has had spot duty on defense and donw well. His size compares to Coleman. I guess it comes down to: does Coleman want to do whatever it takes to make a roster? Michael Sam didn't and is sitting at home as the result. Just my 2 cents.

I would take that score - but I am very worried about: Steve Koudossou. This kid was a beast last year against Mount. He torched the D for 11 receptions and 270+ yards and 2 TDs. Mount was up 38-7 and held on at the end for the win 62-59. Mounts D is much better this year - but I hear so is Koudossou.

He is a great player, his ability with the ball in his hands and open space is at an elite level for D3 football. However, I realize rain played a factor, but Hobart held him to 1 catch for 9 yards (correct me if I'm wrong) in the first half. This was by sophomore and freshman corners with the freshman corner picking off Callahan his first time going deep to him. Obviously Koudoussu had a pretty big second half but the Mount Coaching staff must have seen some of the stuff hobart was doing to stop him. Again, the rain and the constant threat of being smacked by Tyre Coleman played a big part in it. I said 17 points based on the assumption Mount will be able to get after Callahan.

I agree with the score prediction but for different reasons.  I'm not confident Wesley can run the ball against Mount Union and you can't beat the Machine with a one-dimensional offense, no matter how good that dimension is.

As for Hobart on Koudossou, the primary reason that Hobart held him in check was the weather.  Neither quarterback had any success throwing the ball down the field in the first half with the rain. Once the rain slowed down, the Wesley passing offense picked up the pace.  Koudossou badly beat the Hobart corner in one on one coverage for that TD and there were more wide receivers open down the field as the field dried out and the game progressed, including the last TD to the tight end George where he was wide open.

Some of that was undoubtedly injuries to the Hobart defense (Coleman out, Fajri Jackson out), but I dont' know that Hobart did anything schematically to slow down Wesley.  Now, if Mount Union can get the weather to duplicate Saturday's soaker in Dover, then they'll have something. :)

Luckily for Wesley, it looks like it will be dry game, albeit a bit cool at 30-40 degrees.

Yea, it would be interesting to see what Coleman runs in the 40.  Ninkovich ran a 4.79 on pro day which is probably the speed you would need to play DE at that size in the NFL in the scheme the Pats use.

PA_wesleyfan

On one deep play a defender actually tried tackling him before Koudossou caught the ball and ran away from every one.
Also you can't leave Shade alone either. From the games I watched this year most of Baynards runs are right up the gut. Then they put the speed backs in and the change of pace seems to open things up for everythign else

It was a FY CB in only his 2nd start on that long TD. He fell down which led to him being beat. Koudossou had position but D'Antonio worse case gets flagged for PI and it's not a TD on that play if he didn't fall.

I assume Mt has more experience in the secondary. Wouldn't read that much into it.

Schematically they blitzed here and there but otherwise the Hobart DL dominated Wesley's OL. The difference to me if the Statesmen didn't have enough skill talent on offense to compare / compete at same level as Wesley. Mount does and Wesley's defense while fast will be in trouble vs Burke and The Raider O.

Congrats to the 12 Liberty League players making the All Region team with 6 on the first offensive and defensive teams(6 Hobart, 4 St. Lawrence 1 Springfield and 1 RPI) . The E8(really 9) has 13 players, with one more team than the LL, with only 4 first team members. The Liberty League has bragging rights this year with the best team and the best top players . Tyre Coleman gets DPOY for the second time in the East and a chance for All American DPOY , especially after unbridled Wesley performance. Ali Marpet selected AFCA All American and to the Senior Bowl. Marpet has a decent chance to make it at the NFL level as he has the size at 6'4'' and 305 with great technique, balance for pass protection and power for the run.

What happened to Rev?  Figured he would be all over the boards this year.  Hope he's ok.

Not sure why the Rev went off the boards this year, miss his comments and humor.

Rev welcomed a baby girl, his second child, about a month or two ago. Big bro Archer is very pleased with his little sister. So Rev is doing well and keeping track of games but needed a posting vacation given his growing family and travel for work.
