Looking forward to Rochester vs SLU next week.

If U of R gets the win, I see them running the tables this year in the LL - even against RPI in Troy and at home against Hobart.

Not so fast my friend...sorry had to do the Lee Corso reference.  ;D

So I guess I'm Kirk Herbstreit???

Started thinking late last night how the LL could turn out this year...

This is what I came up with:

Rochester
9-0 or 8-1
Pending a loss to Hobart

Hobart
9-1 or 8-2
Pending a loss to Rochester

SLU
7-3
Losses to U of R and Hobart

RPI
6-4
Three straight losses to SLU, Rochester, and Hobart

Union
3-7
Wins over Springfield, WPI, and MMA

This is just one possible scenario. The caveat being, how likely is Rochester to run the table - even if they upset SLU?

Would an 8-2 Hobart team, in this scenario, have any hope of getting in the playoffs and how does their loss to IC play into that? I don't see Ithaca winning the Empire 8; I think it is much more likely Cortland finishes the regular season undefeated. IC, in my opinion, faces a much more difficult journey to Cortaca. They play Fisher and then Buff State at Buffalo before the biggest little game in the country.

Woa Div3Fan, are you sure you don't live in Colorado and have taken advantage of the new legal weed shops before posting?.... Rochester was outgained by Springfield when they knew they would run on every play....they might have rolled up the points, but not ready to crown the Yellowjackets based on the body of work...yet . Having said that, the Yellowjackets gave last year's Hobart team( certainly better than this year's team) a scare in the the fourth quarter when Hobart came out flat after a 21-0 half time lead. Respect was  earned by the Jackets , for sure and they may be as good as you say . If you are right in your smoke filled forecast, it will make for a great  Cenntenial Cup game this year and played in Rochester  8-). The Larries game will tell much this Saturday....

I know, sounds awfully crazy, but it's looking like a possibility. Saturday will be a barometer for where this Yellowjackets team is at.

Funny you guys mention SLU and UofR as they are big topic on this week's edition along with Hobart making it back to Top 25, Wesley/NCC, Courage Bowl and more topics.

1. Knowing a team is going to run on every down is irrelevant to stopping the triple option. That's why Salisbury can light teams up.

2. Springfield ran 20 more plays than Rochester

Pep was somewhat surprised his Saxons were 3-0 after having faced Husson, RPI and Buffalo State. But it's no surprise that UR is 3-0 now having played Catholic, Alfred State and a Springfield squad coming off an uncharacteristic 5-5 season. The surprise is that UR couldn't muster more than 15 first downs (3 of them by penalty) against a Springfield defense that has been suspect through the years. The Pride gave up 19 first downs and 357 yards to UMASS-Dartmouth, and 24 first downs and 385 yards to Western New England....and UR got 250 yards.

The 'jackets' leading rusher was the QB with 73 yards and who went 6-for-16 for 99 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Yikes...don't see the Yellowjackets getting past RPI, much less SLU and Hobart. But we'll wait and see.

1. A fair comment on the triple option .......thinking about formations, I really love the old single wing as run by 1951Heisman winner Dick Kazmaier(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRJqk-0crio) at Princeton...and yes before my time...love to see someone in LL bring this back in some form..sophisticated trickeration possibilities
2. Not sure what running more plays means other than Springfield ran on yellow jacket(Fly?) paper as they crossed mid field...or Rochester didn't need many plays since they had 2 turnover TD's on a fumble and an interception

Larries have a few more offensive weapons than The Pride...Jackets will have their hands(little legs?) full this Saturday

Pep believes that might be the formation that the Bath Rams are running. Saw them run all over undefeated LeRoy Friday night at LeRoy's Homecoming. It was 32-6 when Pep left with about 5:00 remaining...seems Pep wasn't the first to leave as a lot of LeRoy fans had already left.

In speaking with one of the Rams' followers, it seems Livonia is running that same tight formation with good success.

The more plays you run, the more yards you're likely to gain. Because Rochester had defensive touchdowns, Springfield was able to essentially get two extra offensive possessions. This undoubtedly contributed to their outgaining Rochester

Pretty good with the picks last week although none were too challenging. May not be the most exciting week in the league but there will be some good contests. Each year there are ALWAYS upsets and surprises, so it is just a matter of time.

12:00 Union @ Springfield

This one is actually a very intriguing matchup for all of the wrong reasons. These two teams may be battling to stay out of the basement. However, like we saw last week, Union is a good team with talent that just simply cannot put it together. Is now the time? I say yes. In an ugly game, sloppy game Union wins 32-21.

1:00 USMMA @ RPI

Kings point has played pretty well despite the 1-2 record. They have shown they will continue to be a tough/disciplined team. They may also be playing inspired because of the unfortunate passing of their beloved mighty mike. RPI continues to impress and has this one at home. I look for their defense to swallow up the triple option here. RPI wins easily, 38-10.

1:00 Rochester @ St Lawrence

In the LL's game of the week, UofR is heading up to Canton, NY in what hopes to be a good battle. We have Rochester looking as good as they have in years, and despite playing below expectations SLU is very quietly back to playing dominating football. The yellowjackets will be ready to go as they believe the time is now. If they won't to have any realistic shot at the playoff or an ECAC game, the must win this game. SLU realizes they must win out to erase that awful week one loss, but Coach Raymond will have his boys looking no further than tomorrows game. It's at home, and opposing teams seem to hate the pristine grass. I'll take SLU in an offensive game 33-25.

1:00 WPI @ Hobart

The engineers are coming off a tough loss to RPI in which they really thought they could've had. A win there would have done wonders for that program, and put confidence into the players that the team was for real. Their reward? A nice trip to Geneva to play the Statesmen. However, Hobart does not look good on the offensive side on the ball. With Sweeney out at QB (though he may be back I'm not sure) the offense has struggled mightily. However, the defense still looks dominate and they continue to bring the heat on special teams with another blocked punt for a TD last week. This may seem like one of the LL surprises that happens each and every year, but betting against Hobart is still just crazy. Hobart wins 20-7.

You do realize RPI was up 28-0 right?

I do. I meant it more as 'going into the game' they felt that was one they could win. Plus, they did hold RPI scoreless in the second half and RPI had a defensive TD. Was WPI the better team? No, but they were geared up for that one.
