No surprise I guess, according to the St Lawrence insiders who post here..but here it is officially.

http://www.saintsathletics.com/news/2016/4/15/st-lawrence-names-dan-puckhaber-head-football-coach.aspx

Doesn't have the fireworks like the Union hires, but sometimes the best move is no move at all. I believe it's the right move, especially to keep things on the right track for now. If it was not Puckhaber, you are looking at an entire new coaching staff which would be terrible to an incredibly talented upcoming senior class. If they can get decent quarterback play, and if sweeney doesn't take over each and every game for hobart, SLU will be the favorite again returning 18/22 starters.

Congrats to Puckhaber and best wishes to SLU. A great choice in dlip's opinion.

Not to be overlooked with the hires of Flanders and Martin @ Union is the addition of Mike Tomaino, a 2nd year coach out of Bates College. 3 year starter and a captain his senior year at Bates, he brought a lot of energy to the staff last year. Did a great job coaching up what turned out to be two of the best cornerbacks in the NESCAC -- 1 all-league and the other the team defensive MVP. Big things ahead for whichever unit he takes over this fall.

Agree on Puck.

QB at SLU acquitted himself well in Alliance as UMU's backups are probably better than most East Region programs.

With their defensive line and LBs the Saints are going to be in good shape in 2016.

Anyone else hear about the U of R player who got drunk and stole an ambulance? He's facing some serious charges iirc.

His defense should be "Well your honor, it seemed like a good idea at the time..."

Ugh I read about that ambulance incident. Definitely not Versace.

In other news Hobart and Shenandoah have agreed to play a series btw 2017-18. First game will be a Sat night one in Geneva. Looks like Bart is having Sat night games in Wk 3 next few years.

This fall will be IC which should be a great one.

Two hires for St Lawrence have been announced...

St. Lawrence (D-III – NY): Per source, former Rutgers defensive line graduate assistant Scott Vallone has been hired as the new defensive coordinator at St. Lawrence.

St. Lawrence (D-III -NY): Albright College running backs coach Phill Guard has joined the staff as offensive line coach, per source.

SLU getting Scott Vallone back is a BIG get for them. Vallone was previously there in 2014 I believe as the D-Line coach and was a huge reason the defense, and Brown-Wallace in particular, were so dominant. He was an all conference player at rutgers and was one of the last players cut by the patriots after that. He left to go back to Rutgers last season, so I'm sure he is bringing back a wealth of knowledge from being on the other side of things at Rutgers. Great fit with the players, another smart move by Puck and co.

Don't know much about Guard, but I see he was a player and student coach at Mount Union. Anything or anyone associated with 'Mount Union' is a welcomed hire. He will take over the offensive line as Puckhaber takes on more responsibility now.

Vallone is a great get. We interviewed him back in 2014 and he definitely impressed as a young, up and coming coach.

Hobart named its Captains today. Looks like a good group.

Any rumors on a seventh LL Football member? I know we are good until 2018 for auto bid...which realistically LL needs for post season play. Can't wait for some big games this year. Ithaca under the lights in GTown and Larries in Larrytown...... maybe for the title...also hope Union returns to competitiveness of old . Congrats to SLU for making the top 25 in College Football pre-season projection....let's see how the Saints stand up as the team everyone is gunning for....Hobart's dominant run is now officially over :(. Time for a new run....

Congrats to Statesman alum Jeremy Foley on his retirement as AD of Florida today.....an incredibly successful career ...must be tough giving up 1.2MM per year ;D

I have a bad feeling about a 7th member. On footballscoop, SLU is looking for game to fill empty weeks so they don't have two byes in 2018. I'm sure about certain rules (i.e. if a member joins can you drop the game or not), but it doesn't seem like a good sign.

I'm still not worried about a 7th member, and I think the LL would get a pool B bid every year anyway.  If they don't get a pool B, they probably won't believe it.

As for SLU's missing game, that probably has to do with 3 LL schools leaving.  They should be able to schedule some E8 or MAC teams.
