No doubt it was a shock when I saw the brackets. It's been a incredible year so far with so many games we pulled out of the fire including the miracle at WPI. Looks like one more may be inline. Think we need the weather to be friendly for throwing and we must put enormous pressure on their QB to have a chance.  According to team, JC could have picked off a few more balls that were dropped. Hope to have D'antonio back. Looks like no injuries of any sort from Rochester game. Barfield will give them an added dimension as he ran well last week. How they matchup with Shed will be very interesting. Do they think he is over hyped and single cover him or do they double and give opportunities to other players. So many angles for this one.
This is a coaching chess match, for sure. I think the key will be giving Sweeney time and one or two trickerations  ala DeWall. We can run on this team ,to some extent ,because they are not the impenetrable wall like past UMU teams. On Defense, we have to stop the Mount run from just plowing through us but I think this could be another Brockport-like game if we can make it so. We will bend but not brake on Defense, look for a few turnovers, mix it up on blitzes(D'Antonio and Jemison are key)...these are Freshman QB's at the Mount so they are on the road and feel the pressure.....make them feel the pressure of failing great expectations of the Mount.......it is possible...... BUT no stupid penalties ...concentrate EVERY play....and if Harper makes a good play he CANNOT celebrate, it could wake the beast...GO BART

This Mount team will not plow through with the run game. In fact, running inside is not something they do well at all. If they could the jcu game may have had a different result because it would have eaten more clock. BJ Mitchell is a good RB - quick and can turn on a dime. But he dances too much and can't run inside. If he gets the corner he could score from anywhere but he struggles against good teams. BJ is a great back against average teams, and an average back against good Ds.

As far as Mount D goes - they can stop the run (don't be fooled). Granted they are not a beast d-line like Mount has had but against jcu Ro Golphin (jcu RB) had 9 carries for 119 yards. Looks great. But he actually had 2 carries for 107 and 7 for 11. Aside from his 2 big runs (an 80 yarder in the 1st qtr and a 27 yarder in the 2nd) he didn't do much running and neither did the rest of jcus backs. I know I am splitting hairs with the stats but, to me, averaging 13 yds a carry on 9 runs tells the D can't stop the run but when it is one really big run and the run game is shutdown on everything else - that's different. To put it another way - if you remove the 80 yard run - jcu rushed 25 times for 39 yards (1.56 yds per attempt). The 80 yard burst was the running game for the day.

Mounts QBs are all talented - and all young. 4 FR have started this year. TOs are a problem - specifically fumbles from the QB. I expect Mount will rebound (I am a Raider fan afterall) and I expect a different outcome this Saturday. Regardless - safe travels to all and no injuries to anyone. Enjoy- and sorry for the long winded ramble.

Statesmen making a statement today.  (Well, as much of a statement as may be made against a 1-7 team)

And that statement is "Please don't make us play SJF in the 1st, or Mt. Union in the 2nd round"

Fisher is getting pushed around, I don't think you'll have to worry about them getting in...

Well, I guess I got my damn wish.  Crap.   Well Hobart, time to strap it up!
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Hey Bartman- At least you arent playing Fisher.........Right? ;D

Fisher 91......if Fisher appeared as the first matchup in the bracket....the white flags would have been out for sure......no question we match-up much better against the Mount than the Cardinals.... ;)

That was an awesome post!!
+k my friend!

Mount does not usually change from the system they use.  They will likely play the same defense they usually do.  Now what they are really good at is making changes in game.  So if Hobart starts burning them with passing they will adjust and bring less pressure, dropping more into coverage.  On offense, Mitchell is a nice running back, but he does not do much between the tackles, so if Hobart can keep them from running outside, advantage Hobart.  The QB turns the ball over more than Mount is used to seeing so that will also be an issue if Hobart can win the turnover battle.  Finally, playing at home will be a huge difference than playing on the road.  Normal game day patterns are definitely an advantage to any home team.  Good Luck this week.
Wesleydad,
Thanks for the insights, you certainly have some recent experience against the Mount, +k......I was hoping we would have a matchup this year......there is one way.....just make it all the way to Salem...good luck to the Wolverines

No that's fair. Bad delivery for sure. Lesson learned.

But as a friend of mine said, the Chair basically admitted someone was going to get a bad pairing. Just happened to be it was Hobart who got the short straw. Cragg even said he didn't expect it and so you get an extra flight not to match 1 and 3 in one region but send a "4" to a "2" in another?

So it goes.

The question is....are they really a four from the North?....I guess if you did not know it was Mount Union and you look at the OAC, they lost the game against their toughest opponent.....why is that any better than a 9-1 SLU where I think the rest of the LL is better than the OAC..... we will find out Saturday on the field ...the Raiders will be looking to prove something  >:(
