I don't know how much of this is Swanstrom's different attitude compared to Welch, or just good timing, but I like what he's doing to promote the program and spread the word. This season could be rough—he's got to institute an entire new offensive system, after all. But I think in 2-3 years, the Bombers will be very, very good

dlip has the utmost respect for the Bombers program, Coach Welch, and is so pumped they are joining the LL. A super strong IC is great for the LL and the East region as a whole. dlip is confident the Bombers will continue to grow under Swanstrom and believes we may even see the Bombers return to a form they consistently displayed year in and year out some time ago. There is reason to be excited in Ithaca IDHO.

Good luck to the Bombers ,looking forward to a long time rivalry with entry in the LL......Swanstrom should make his mark relatively quickly...100 days to go!

In case any Ithaca fans haven't seen this information :
Ithaca (D-III – NY): Head coach Dan Swanstrom has finalized his staff as follows: Mike Toerper defensive coordinator (former special teams / DB at Johns Hopkins), Reece Petty receivers coach (former GA at Iowa State and Buffalo), Sean Reeder offensive line coach (former OL at Wayne State), Brody Trahan linebackers (former defensive GA/Quality Control Baylor) and Tyler Williams defensive line remains on staff.

I see a Google link to a Twitter page that no longer exists that lists Trahan as such, but the Football Scoop article doesn't have a primary source, and they don't list Gary Bucci or Tom Coughlin as members of the staff, so they're certainly not getting info from Ithaca's athletics page or Swanstrom's Twitter. I don't doubt you're right, but is there a primary source for this info?

D3viewer

I don't know the primary source. Football Scoop's information is usually reader submitted. And anonymous. But just about all college football coaches read it, so if there is erroneous information it is usually corrected by the subject. Someone on Ithaca's staff would read it and send in a correction. So I can't explain the discrepancies. Not sure why they would hire a WRs coach (Petty) when they already have one (Coughlin)

A scholarship D-I player? A scholarship D-I player with playing time? Lots of people qualify as "D-I transfers" -- it's a wide range.

If I had a nickel for every D1 transfer who is supposed to 'Nash' his team to the next level..,

New DC at Williams.

This is an interesting move. I'm sure the sting of not getting the IC job was hard to get over. And given Williams' overall academic and athletic reputation (stellar in both accounts) as well as Raymond's documented ability to turn around a struggling program, I'm sure they'll get good quickly. McDonough playing a role in that will make him an attractive candidate for other HC jobs.

It'll be interesting to see how long he stays at Williams. Obviously, Raymond hasn't been there long either, so if McDonough wants a HC job, it's probably going to be somewhere else. Is this a one year stop?

Hah, thanks, I was checking for a while and never saw anything.  I noticed on the Williams coaching staff that George McCormick (former Ithaca Lax and football player) is no longer on the football staff as DB coach but is still the head Lax coach.  I'm not sure whose decision that was but it was at least another old IC connection that would have been on the staff.

They also have former LB Tom Blumenauer on staff

First preseason polls came out last week. S&S has Wesley at 13th, Frostburg 15, Hobart 16, Alfred 19 and SJF 25.

Lindy's also had Hobart's Sweeney and Shed as "All-Div III" on offense. WNE OL Martin and Wesley OL Gono also got named to their preseason all-star team.

Yes I noticed that.  Blumenauer was with him at SLU as well I believe.

Sweeney to Shed will certainly be the connection to watch again this year, but I think the big benefactor of Shed double teams will be Zach Withers who broke out in the Mount Union game with 2 TD catches and now with the graduation of Pfohl, I think Zach will step up.....less than 90 days to Brockport and home opener at the Boz...prepare hard and take no game for granted despite these lofty pre season predictions

Alfred certainly can't afford to rest on its laurels in 2017...gonna be hard-pressed to equal last year's record season. But the strength of the 2016 squad was its focus on the task at hand.

It will help to have Maleke Fuentes back for another season! We missed him in the playoffs.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
