Alfred certainly can't afford to rest on its laurels in 2017...gonna be hard-pressed to equal last year's record season. But the strength of the 2016 squad was its focus on the task at hand Tyler Johnson's 2nd-team All-American season.

Fixed that for you

Haha! Thanks, Bombers! He just signed with the Arena Football League's Jacksonville Sharks!

Good news!

Out of curiosity, how many guys from the 16 AU defense are back besides Licata for this season?

I echo the board's comments  and wish Tyler the best of luck and appreciated seeing his skills(limited to internet unfortunately) this last year , during Alfred's legendary
season. I am just sorry Hobart couldn't get past Mount Union after tying the game 21-21 in the third quarter....it would have been a truly epic Alfred-Hobart match up, but the wind took over and the Mount took advantage and marched through Western NY last year......unfortunately I think if we see the Raiders again it will be in Ohio.

Former Brockport WR Darryl Thompson also plays for that Jax Sharks team as well. Also former E8 Defensive Player of the Year Tarik Bennett just signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.

Quite frankly, because of the way that the team substitutes for situation, it's hard to pinpoint "starters" because so many see playing time. But AU loses Andy Miller, Zach Brinkley and Charles Branwell from the defensive line, while Shyheim Wingate and Liam Hobbins are graduated from the secondary.

Saxons lose some of the best from the offensive line in Kevin LeMarque, David Sylvester, Nick Charlock....but that's Coach Rankl's forte so Pep is hoping he's been developing some of the younger players to step right in. Who the new O-linemen will be working to protect and open holes for will be an interesting development.

Hobart just lost their DC Kory David.

According to his bio his wife works for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bummer for Hobart but should get a lot of interest. Timing isn't great tho. Saw Alfred St is also looking for a D.C. Also.

Sorry to see David go...he always seemed prepared and had a great game plan against Mount Union until we had the turnovers. Timing not great , not sure if anyone can step up on the current staff.

Timing may not be great for Hobart, but not good for Brockport either. They will go into the Hobart game somewhat blind in terms of what defense Hobart will be running. Last year's film will no longer be very helpful. They will have to make an educated guess what Hobart will be running, and probably have practice against extra multiple fronts and coverages in preparation.

I know it is difficult to replace Andrews , but your QB play was pretty good...I remember  McKean, the LIU transfer and Germinerio both looked good last year....I am expecting another tough hard hitting contest...Brockport had a great season last year and could have won any of their games....just hoping Hobart new DC is ready for this  tough Week 1 matchup and if we keep you guessing , all the better...I think we will be happy to have home field this year and take whatever edge we can get....less than 3 mos. from now

Cragg's teams have run 4x4 for 25+ years, so I doubt that'll change (could also be a reason David left, but you never know). Statesmen have had a pretty epic run of LBs last 5-6 years if you think about it and they'll have two new starters in the OLB positions in 2017 which hasn't happened in quite some time.

That, and how Hobart fills the graduation of Testani at C, are the biggest position stories for this preseason camp, IMO, for the Statesmen.

Can you imagine opening the season at Ithaca this particular season? Pep has no idea what to expect from the "new" Bombers at ButterField, a particular venue at which the Saxons haven't had a whole lot of success. Wondering if they'll cut the grass before the opener?

****ing hilarious Pep! +k

Dlip's Dutchmen have also struggled at Butterfield. However dlip has to say that is his favorite venue in all of D3 football and probably college football in general (that he has visited)! He absolutely loves the setting, the ****ing gravel and exposed land underneath the old grandstand and press box. There is something about it to dlip, a feeling. Awesome place!

Better early in the season when dry than post-season when wet.
