I would have gone with the Empire Liberty Bowl but this works for me too.

Given the crossover in the leagues' OOC schedules, what's the likelihood that the game ends up being a rematch? (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.)

Both conferences have had to schedule at least two-three OOC games with each other, given realignments, so I'd say it's fairly likely. Some predict IC will be LL runner up this season and SJF the E8 RU.

IC and SJFC are scheduled to play in a regular season game on 10/21/17 and could potentially play again on 11/18/17 if this prediction held. In the past SJFC has elected to go to the ECACs but would probably opt out for what would be a more local, less expensive bowl game.

Good news for Hobart fans:

Good for him.  I was wondering though if this new position is "full time" or if he will continue to keep his counseling job in the Geneva School System (according to his bio).  I would imagine that if he had to leave the school job, he would be taking a pay cut?

Personally, I'm not a fan. I'm strange. I like variety in scheduling. I like seeing different teams, from different conferences. I know ECAC-type games don't draw well, usually because of the distance, but I would love some kind of a "non-rematch" provision in this—though as you point out, given the cross scheduling between the conferences, this might be hard. I'm just not sure who is going to be pumped if Brockport has to visit St. Lawrence two weeks in a row. I mean, even Ithaca-Cortland two weeks in a row would be odd.

Yea me either.  They should do it with one of the California or Texas/Southern conferences.  Make a field trip out of it.

I mean, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but as it stands now, it's just another E8/LL game, of which we'll see, I believe, 15 of in the regular season. There's a good chance it'll be a rematch. I just don't think it moves the needle. I mean, we all know your scenario would never happen, but as an IC fan, I'd be way more pumped to see them play Hardin-Simmons or Pac Lutheran compared to another E8 team.

Ha no I was being serious.  The great thing about "bowl games" is playing different teams.  You pretty much summed up all the reasons why this game would be kind of blah for a team like Ithaca especially.

Bombers798891

Also, could you imagine the oddness of a Cortland-Ithaca as a standalone "Bowl" game a week after it was just played? Especially if they knew going in to the first game that they were locked into runner up spots? And how would fans react? That tends to be an empty week on campus, but would students be into it?  Or would it be like the townie's version of Cortaca, where everyone who can't deal with the overflowing crowds (like me!) gets to go?

Frankly, this needs to happen the first year.

IC would be in the "worst" position if it came in 2nd place as it has the most overlap with the E8. Other schools like RPI and SLU would have better chances to not have a rematch based on playing different OOC opponents. In theory UofR and Union are in the best position, but it's doubtful their programs are quite there just yet. Not quite sure what RPI will look like (they bring back most of their specialists but lose some good OL & DL players, not to mention Ryan Buss who was a very good DB) so in theory they could be a possibility to present a good bowl match up b/c they only play two E8 teams, one which will prob be favored to repeat as E8 champs.

HOB - plays Brock, SJF & Wick / Doesn't play ALF, BuffSt, Cort, Mo or Utica
IC - plays ALF, Brock, SJF, UC & Cort / Doesn't play BuffSt, Mo or Wick
RPI - plays ALF and Buff / doesn't play rest of E8
ROC - only plays ALF / doesn't play rest
SLU - plays BuffSt, Brock and UC / Doesn't play Alf, Cort, SJF, Wick or Mo
Uni - plays Mo / doesn't play rest

A couple potential games that would be interesting IMO, if they happened, would be:

HOB vs. ALF or Cort
SLU vs. ALF, Cort or SJF

I am thinking with IC's schedule they have a chance to be second in both leagues ;D

dlippiel

You guys make some great points regarding the bowl game. dlip is just an old softy who likes to squeeze as much east region d3 football out of the figurative d3 football nipple as possible every year. Hopefully this game won't be a hinderance for the players. When it comes down to it dlip believes it is all about them. dlip just loves both of these conferences and will certainly look to attend an extra game between the two...of course he says that now when his two kids and wife are not in the room.  ;D
