Congrats to Ithaca's Jordan Schemm (Ret Specialist) on being named to the Pre-season All American second team! Wishing Jordan a great 2017 campaign!

Schemm really is tremendous, and a class act. For anyone interested, here is a highlight reel of his 2016 season that he had me make for him.

Great film....might need to tie his shoe laces together for Hobart game...what an athlete both as returner and DB...congrats on  pre -season AA honors

Anyone else notice at about 1:10 in that video when he slaps the hand of a Hobart player after his INT? Savage move.

dlip ****ing loves this time of year! He just purchased Kickoff, and is getting ready to head for Cape Cod for a week with the family. Every end of summer has been the same now for dlip since Kickoff came out. Purchase Kickoff, head to Cape Cod with no wireless (for the most part), ****ing drool about the upcoming D3 football season while reading Baldacci, Grisham, Silva, etc books on the beach, stuff his face with as much chowder and seafood as possible, and fly home on 90 and read kickoff the second he gets home and the head down to Frank bailey field ASAHP and watch his beloved Dutchmen practice...absolutely harmonious!!!!

Pep just came back from a two-week respite himself. Started with a three-day solo tent camping trip to Morrisville for a reunion celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the journalism department. Finished off a book called "The Last Season" by Stuart Stevens about a guy my age who grew up going to Ol' Miss football games with his dad who, after 30 years away, takes an autumn and follows the Rebels with his 95-year-old father....one last time. Awesome read for anyone (like me) who grew up with a football fan father.

Followed up the Morrisville reunion with a week-long solo hibernation in a cheap motel in which Pep was writing chapters of his Yunie book, interrupted only by a hump day excursion to Buffalo for the Kensington Lions Club High School Football All-Star Classic to see some AU recruits in action, and concluded with a Saturday trip to the WWII Museum in Eldred, PA. Then it was off to Sunny Hill Campground for a couple more nights of solo tent camping with some hoops and lots of sun and time at the pool. Returned home to gear up for getting back to a work routine and at youngest son's request, took a quick trip to Williamsburg, VA to take in the sights and sounds, thrills and spills of Busch Gardens-Old Country. Awesome! Trip included a stop at older son's place in Falls Church, VA where Pep fed his chunky five-month-old grandson before taking off to Busch Gardens. Spent a night in Ashland, VA, home of Randolph-Macon College, alma mater of D3football.com podcaster Keith McMillan. (Go 'Jackets!)

Now it's back to work with the SUN and moonlighting at the AU library....and was tackled by D3football.com Pre-Season All-American LB A.J. LiCata last night  at the local diner where he was having dinner with his folks. (Pep won't count on that one can be added to his stats for the 2017 season).

Da boys are coming to town...time to get ready for a little foosball! (Kickoff long ago ordered...now the countdown to D3football.com Kickoff!!)

Looks like Statesman Ali Marpet's move to Center for the TB Bucs is progressing  well , expect to see him more as part of Hard Knocks on HBO.

Thanks Bartman +k! You know dlip wishes the Pumpkinheads the very best! Last year's game was exciting and hopefully this years game will follow suit. He thinks the Dutch are a few years away from bringing the program back up to speed on a year in and year out basis. No doubt in dlip's mind Behrman will get them to where they need to be.

Hey Pep,
I have been trying to find a Statesman from the Davis -Yunie rumble in 1972 ...unfortunately the few that remember the game think Hobart won it  ;D...now those are some selective memories...back then we used to beat down Mount Union for fun...I have one more "on the field" source that should remember the luck of the Saxons that day while you are still writing..... I think we should formally appoint you historian for the E8 and LL and any other predecessor leagues like the UCAA and ICAC...I am sure we can take up a collection for your efforts

As a Hobart grad, married to a Union gal, I have been enjoying the past few years.  But it's always a little more fun in our house when Union is on form.  Here's hoping they get back sooner rather than later.

Way late to the party, but I really like the addition of Buff State to the LL.  I think they have been better than their record the past few years, and now I will get to see Bart in my own backyard.    Win-win.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Haha! No need to take up a collection...just happy there are some folks with the patience to read through my boring posts about times gone by.

Just to state a few "facts" regarding scores from the '70s....from Yunie's last seven years of his 36-season career:
1970  AU 31, Hobart 22 (A-Z goes 90+ yards for TD run at Merrill Field)
1971  AU 28, Hobart 21 (Three AU TDs in last six minutes sparked by Bob Young to Charley Young 76-yard TD pass from punt formation in "Miracle at Geneva")
1972 AU 31, Hobart 28 (6000+ attend "Super Bowl East" of unbeatens at Merrill Field)
1973 Hobart 30, AU 28 (another barn-burner at Boswell)
1974 AU 14, Hobart 0
1975 AU 14, Hobart 13
1976 AU 20, Hobart 6 (Win clinches AU's ICAC title [3-0-1] in Yunie's final season [4-2-2] as AU hands SLU its only loss, 3-2, in driving rainstorm in Canton. Saxons failed to earn a single first down. Win came a week after AU held off Ithaca for a 3-3 tie on South Hill Field in a game Lois Butterfield described as "ugly."

Miss those Alfred-Hobart clashes! +K for the "historian" plug....haha!

Pep, Some great AU-Hobart games back then...that's why I was hoping for last year's teams to meet as best of E8 and LL.....That interloper from Alliance spoiled it :(.........
The current Hobart football parents have dropped the boys off with their new mommy/daddy, Coach Cragg...lots of optimism this year and hopes of reaching new program heights.....preparation starts today and the record is 0-0 ...no short cuts ....EARN IT every drill, every play, every game.... GO BART

So long as Buffalo State's headed to the Liberty League for football next year, leaving just six Empire 8 conference games on the schedule, Pep would love to see AU and Hobart renew its long-time gridiron rivalry. In Mayberry, the Hobart game always drew a crowd. Frostbit State or Hussy? Not so much.

Heck, would love to drive to Geneva rather than longer trips elsewhere. But then, who knows, the possibility now exists that there could be a meeting in Geneva this year, depending on how everything plays out (Pep would hope it'd be an NCAA game, but the Empire State Bowl also is a possibility).

It would have been nice last year had the Statesmen eliminated those pesky Raiders. Or maybe even Johns Hopkins (Pep probably stands alone as the single observer to still believe that Johns Hopkins was the #1 seed of their bracket last year.) But AU certainly had its chances. Was surprised that MHBU didn't air it out against 'em after Johnson exposed that secondary.

Empire State Bowl match up....no way.... NCAA or bust!!!!!!!!

I was also surprised that MHBU did not exploit The Mount secondary more last year...Johnson sure had them running all over the field both passing and running

AUPepBand, Bartman and any others I've chatted with in the past. Just want to wish all of you good luck, happy tailgating, safe travels and all the other stuff (whatever that is).
You guys seem to have some fun in the Liberty League. More competitive than the OAC.
I'll be following your teams from the relative safety of Mount Union Stadium.
Go get 'em.
Don't think I expressed myself very well. Hopefully you got the message!
