Dlip also enjoyed seeing local Shaker product getting the nod at QB for the Bombers. Seems like the kid played well yesterday. Dlip wishes him and the Bombers the best on the season! Congrats on the new coaching staff's first victory!

Yesterday's win for Ithaca really was a testament to what new HC Dan Swanstrom's two strengths were thought to be coming in to the season: recruiting and offensive scheming.

You had a freshman in Wahid Nabi getting the nod at QB, and throwing a TD pass to a freshman playing WR (Andrew Vito, look for big things from him in the future). And the first TD pass of the game came on the 4th play from scrimmage, on a beautifully designed drag that left the entire left side of the field wide open.

If anyone is interested in seeing the kid in action, here is a highlight package I shot from Saturday's game:

First off, nice job on the footage. Great stuff.

To your other points, yeah things certainly look a lot rosier this week. Nabi made some great throws. And the young talent the Bombers have at WR—Gladney looks like he can take over a game at any time—is really appealing. I like that they're playing with tempo as well. For a 10 play drive that featured just two first downs and one incomplete pass to take just 1:35 you have to be moving quickly.

To me, the biggest positive from this game was not on offense. The five sacks the Bombers' generated was the high point for me. As good as Ithaca has been on defense over the years, they have struggled to take down the quarterback. But a defense that gets consistent pressure on the QB can do so much for a defense.

The Bombers looked fantastic to me. They outgained St. Lawrence by 150 yards despite running 21 fewer plays. The yards per play average was massively for Ithaca (7.9 to 3.7).

The one thing I'd like to see is the ability to grind the clock in the 4th with a lead and/or finish their opponent off on offense. This has been the Bombers' achillies heel for years (See: Cortaca in 2013 and 2014). My favorite drive in the Mike Welch era was a 17-play 90-yard drive against RPI in the playoffs that took up like 8 minutes and extended an IC lead from 24-10 to 27-10. A thing of beauty.

Awesome stuff. Kid's got a terrific arm, that long bomb to #83 was downright sexy. Not to mention #2 taking that 50-50 ball away from the CB and making it look easy.

If those are the kind of athletes Swanstrom is going to roll out there in IC uniforms, mark me down as intrigued and encouraged.

We commented on your YouTube video itself but I'll say something here as well -- this was just a really superb video. Well done!

Ithaca does a great job with their communications and this video is an example . I saw that bomb on the internet  and it was awesome, but this clip had all the great plays....good luck to Ithaca football, welcome to the Liberty League , looks like the new coaching staff is producing .....and can't wait to get Hobart's first win at Butterfield on 9/30 and seeing the highlights produced by the excellent IC production crew ;D

Ithaca has only had one 1,000-yard receiver in school history*, but I think Gladney is going to be #2. At 6-3, 225, he just presents so many matchup problems. I'm interested to see him vs. (I assume) D'Antonio in two weeks.

What would you guys think of an "Empire 8/LL interconference games" update page? I remember bouncing around between both in various games depending on where the last posting was, and we've got at least one of these games (and often more than one) almost every week for the rest of the season.

Good idea! Although Pep doesn't use the boards during a game he's attending in person, it makes for good reading following the game and it would be nice to have it all together on one thread.

Nice match up as D'Antonio will most likely draw coverage against the impressive Gladney... Tommy has played well against Ithaca and got his first start in the playoff game his freshman year and has started ever since.

Thanks everyone for the very kind words!

@Bartman, I agree that next Saturday is shaping up to be an exciting match-up!

I'm assuming most people haven't been to the Butt since this season's opener, but the addition of a stone wall has it looking tremendous!

Pep was impressed with "the wall" while in attendance at the IC home opener. Also thought the concession stand was a pretty good deal. $3 for a burger, $2 for a hot dog, $1 for a bottle of water. All in all, a nice experience at ButterField, high above Cayuga's waters...something a little different than "The Pit" seated along Mayberry's roaring Kanakadea Creek.

I'm certainly impressed with the job Wahid Nabi did for Ithaca last Saturday. Other Section 2 (Albany area) products are also starting at QB for other Eastern region teams...Billy Pine at Hartwick (Hoosick Falls), Joe Germinerio, Brockpost (LaSalle) and Jake Eglintine, Springfield (Saratoga) are all tearing it up this season.
