If you have six teams in your conference, you have five conference games, so nobody can go 4-2.

Ah yes, so for three way tie purposes, you need to replace all those numbers with:

three teams going 4-1 which means three teams have to go 1-4 correct?

three teams going 3-2 which means three teams have to go 2-3....

I'm still stuck.

In the 4-1 scenario is that they had to all lose only to each other, which means the record against everyone else is identical: IC beats Hobart, Hobart beats RPI, RPI beats IC, all three teams beat Union, Rochester, and St. Lawrence

In this scenario, it is possible for Rochester to go 0-5, Union to go 1-4, and St. Lawrence 2-3. (Rochester loses all five, and St Lawrence beats Union.)

If you all go 3-2, then yes, everyone else goes 2-3, and yeah, it is a quagmire because everyone finishes either 1st or last with a loss to a team that's first and last.

Yea, that is what I'm trying to get a grip on, if there is a 3 way tie at 4-1, and the teams all beat each other at the top, it means they would all have identical records against everyone else (3-0), so still no way for #2 to come into play correct?

Pat Coleman

That's true, and it's typical of three-way ties in football, since there's only a single round-robin.

All this talk about ties is mute, Ithaca is going to run the table in the league. 8-)

To quote YOU Wesleydad..."not a big fan of using reputation as a barometer"...Is it that you think Ithaca, a team that's gone 4-6 and 5-5 the last two years, is going to roll through the "weaker" Liberty League. I think not.

You don't see this? Heck, it's a given...Ithaca is the charming step-daughter, looked down upon and mistreated by the step-sisters and step-mother, but it is Cinderella that wins over the prince. Bombers are the only ones who will fit into that glass slipper. Salisbury did it to the Empire 8. Now Ithaca's doing it to the Liberty League.  ;)

2017 Ithaca is NOT 2011 Salisbury... the Seagulls were the beast of the east that year.

Record in the past two years:

St Lawrence: 17-4
Hobart: 16-5
Ithaca: 9-11

If the results of the past two years meant anything, the Bombers wouldn't be 2-0 in the Liberty League right now.

Not sure how to answer this, but here goes.  If I was picking Ithaca based on reputation and recently that reputation is not good than I would not say they are going to win out.  I watched them play last week, they are tough with the QB/receiver tandem.  They will score points.  They gave Alfred all they could handle and could have won, I watched that game also.  They have beaten the top 2 teams for the past several years in the Liberty League already so that would say that the schedule becomes easier now.  I will keep an eye on the RPI/ Hobart game this weekend to compare results to see if RPI has a chance to beat them.  I have never paid attention to the whose conference is better thing as Hobart has shown they are as good as any E8 team recently and St. Lawrence has done the same so I am not sure about the weaker Liberty League.  I just think they will win out based on this year's results, no reputation needed.

Look, Ithaca has an entirely new coaching staff, a drastically different offensive scheme (not to mention in-game aggressiveness), But they have a quarterback who has thrown for 340 yards in each of his two starts. Will Gladney has suddenly become the best receiver in the conference—a tall order considering a first-team AA is already there.  And, as Wesleydad says, they just knocked off the two teams that finished 1st and 2nd last year (and were picked first and third this year).

If you think anyone is looking at the name on the jerseys and saying that's why Ithaca's got a shot to go 5-0 in conference, you're not paying attention.

Pep is sort of glad that his young Saxons, whose record at Butterfield is abysmal, were able to tackle the Bombers in the season opener, before adjustments were made.
Ithaca has Rochester and RPI on the road and Union at home. UR? Depending on the weather, RPI could be interesting...AU has played some unusual games in that big empty stadium. One year, all 51 points were scored at the "downwind" end of the field. Another year, it took an Oscar-winning performance by an AU DB to draw a goal-line unsportsmanlike penalty that pushed the Engineers back, who then missed (Andrew Franks, no less) a game-tying field goal. Then Union at Butterfield for all the marbles? Pep likes the Bombers' chances.

Ultimately it's just math.

If you win 5 conference games, you win the conference. Ithaca has two. Everyone else has none. We know someone's going to win them, but the only team we know that will win two is Ithaca.

Bartman

Hobart has it's back against the wall against RPI , the only team that has beaten Hobart the last 2 years. Although the  Sweeney to Shed combo has gotten off to a slow start this year.....Sweeney has passed all of the career Hobart QB records...as for for Shed...he needs 39 catches for 297 yards the rest of the season to pass Dan Suozzi (Suozzi was a great athlete as he was also a great punter and a fantastic punt return specialist)...I think if Shed can pass the career receiver records tomorrow( 39 catches for 297 yards)the Statesmen will have a good chance to win ;D

My remaining hopes and prayers for the day are with the Rochester Yellow Jackets swarming the Bombers for a miracle win tomorrow.... ;)
