dlip is still on the Cape but word is Union got ****ing manhandled today scrimmaging Utica. Hopefully the Dutchmen can get back to practice this week and keep working to improve. dlip will certainly be at practice this week checking them out. It's about getting better each day, wherever you're at. Hoping for the best!
No worries Dlip, enjoy the Cape, the Dutchmen are probably just evaluating  the lower rungs of the depth chart and playing Opossum to the rest of the LL

Thanks Bartman. dlip was just surprised to hear those results. Not that he expected and/or expects his beloved Garnet to be world beaters but he just thought the scrimmage would be more competitive. Who knows not having been there and all. Still hoping for the best and for a very competitive Dutchmen football team this season. Husson is going to be a tough opener. +k pal

OK, another season FINALLY is upon us.....this weeks picks are a complete frickin' guess, with a small amount of research. Next week , I will get serious. The numbers in parentheses are the rankings from Kickoff:

August 31:  Utica (75)            28    at  the Larries(148)     14     (E8 v LL alert)

Sept 1.    :  Husson(135)         17    at  the Dutchboys(86)  24     (Husson tougher than the Kickoff rankings)

TriCornerHats(43)   21    at Brockport (6)          35     ( Chance of upset 25% as Hobart is tied at half and E8 v. LL alert)

                 St.Vincents(213)      7    at  Bombers(28)          38    (Ithaca easy win)

                 Yellowjackets(201)  14   at  Case Western(44)    28   (Rochester plays tough)

Sliderulers (25)        31   at  Allegheny (92)        14   (RPI plays solid game)

LL goes 3-3 out of conference

Just noticed that D3 football actually kicks off this Thursday.  Not that it involves the LL directly, but Johns Hopkins plays Randolph Macon.  Hopkins is again the favorite to win the CC, so always a potential 1st round opponent for the LL champ.

Bartman

Hopkins would be a great first week opponent. Remembering 2014 playoff game when Hobart beat Hopkins 24-21, the last year of  Marpet and Coleman anchoring the lines. Top 4 LL and CC teams are all pretty close in strength this year.

Brockport should win vs Hobart very comfortably. I will go 41-13 Brockport. They are home and simply way more talented. Hobart will struggle to do anything on offense against the Brockport D. The D is absolutely loaded with starters returning and a few impact transfers and newcomers will make this unit very deep as well. When Brockport has the ball you will have to pick your poison. Crowd the receivers and you will be burned deep. Sit in a 2 deep and they will run all over you. They also have 2 really good rb on the depth chart behind Morrison this year. Last year was a huge drop off when he came out of the game. Maybe I am wrong and Hobart can hang but I just don't see it.

bports,
You are probably right based on last years result and returning starters for each team. But with 86 degrees and Thunderstorms forecasted, I am counting on some lightning bolts to inspire the Statesmen as the Brockport team cramps up in the heat....and that the overconfidence bug bites the Golden Eagles. The Statesmen are in great shape for the conditions under new HC Dewall. With these factors , I think the upset is a strong possibility ;)

Last year at this time, the exact narrative was written about Hobart over Brockport.  Hobart is going 10-0, Brockport is just a tune up for the rest of the year....One year later, Brockport is going 10-0, Hobart is just a speed bump on their way to the playoffs.  I think the Hobart defense will present some serious troubles for a inexperienced O Line of Brockport.  Hobart will rotate at least 7-8 players up front, keeping the line fresh.  The defensive backfield is healthier, and more experienced from the 2017 team.  No doubt Hobart is the underdog, but it may be a bit closer than the 2-3 touchdowns.  The game will go either, blowout in Brockport's favor or low scoring game to Hobart.  Reality: 34-14 Brockport, IF all goes right : 17-14 Hobart.

Here's a video discussing Union and it's season opener Saturday vs Husson. The players interviewed are all members of what should be a strong Dutchman defense. Coach Behrman talks about the strong freshmen class and says the QB job hasn't been settled yet. Look for soph.  Will Bellamy to get the start over fellow soph. John Germinerio. Bellamy is #15 in the footage...https://unionathletics.com/news/2018/8/29/football-dutchmen-begin-2018-on-saturday-vs-husson.aspx?path=football

This is the only real question dlip has about Bport. We shall see. Hoping for a very competitive injury free game.

Is he starting for the Bombers ? His available HS tapes look pretty awesome. Just what your opponents need... another potentially outstanding linebacker.....

He's listed as 2nd string on the current two-deep, but to quote one person I've heard "He doesn't belong at D-III"

So, so, so pumped for the season.

Hobart has a pretty awesome LB in the pipeline as well, check out FY Bryan Aguilar, if you get a chance
