Regarding this weekend matchup between Bart and Union, I still don't think we have seen the Hobart defense firing on all cylinders.  The coaches need to establish a base set, it is clear that running a 2 or 3 man set up front does not work.  I am certain, that after reviewing 4 games of film, and having 2 weeks to prepare, we will see a different Hobart defense.  The offense should be fully healed, particularly with a healthy RB corps (Harvey should finally be at full strength), taking some of the pressure off of the QB.  The team is loaded with great athletes, size and speed, if they finally can come together, this will be a good game.  If the defense is lost, the QB needs to pass more than 40 times, and Hobart continues with the killer unsportsmanlike penalties, then this will be at least a 21 point blowout.

RPI and Ithaca is set up to  be a great game as well.  The Ithaca offense is certainly vulnerable, but the defense has been dominating.  Add in the two weeks of rain and the grounds crew forgetting to mow, the Butterfield grass will be nice and thick.  I see a defensive struggle, with Ithaca winning 21-6.

Lastly, this is the week that UofR breaks through.  SLU must still be banged up from the beatdown of last week. 24-21 Bees over Saints

Allright, it's been about 15 years since I had any picks, but here goes....

Hobart 28 Union 17  I think Union is the better football team and will be the better team at the end of the season.  But Hobart needs this game and gets the edge at home.  A small part of me has questions about Union and their non league schedule, but they did what they needed to do and Hobart slipped up bad once.  That being said, this is a rebound game and Hobart will win.

Ithaca 24 RPI 13  Like Hobart, Ithaca is at home and their motivation is a loss from last year and some lackluster play on offense the past few weeks.  I think the grass will be a factor as well.

St. Lawrence 27 Rochester 10  St. Lawrence still has more talent from top to bottom and that isn't even in question.  I think they roll.

Bonus games:

New York Yankees 13 Oakland A's 2  For those of you who live in gambling states, take out money on your 401K, pay the fees, and go big.

LSU -3 at Florida  Florida isn't there yet, LSU isn't going to be in the final 4 this year, but they will win this one big.

Kentucky at Texas A&M -6  Kentucky gets exposed on Sat.  Taste it.

I like all the picks, agree with the Yanks winning, but Severino is on the mound means some early runs for the A's.  9-7 Yanks

This is definitely the question regarding the Garnet Drip Juice that we are all waiting for an answer to. Saturday will provide that answer.

Solid.  I am loving the Hobart and Yankees optimism.  But there is no way both win on the same day.  Bart gets a W, taking moneyball and the moneyline at +167.

Bonus NFL game:

Buffalo (+3.5) 21
Tennessee 17

The roller-coaster to the number one draft pick continues.  Shady finally breaks out, gets traded immediately afterward to keep them on track.

Yea, I'd stay away from any Buffalo Bills games this year, but I do like Josh Allen.  I think he will be a top 10 QB in five years in this league.

100% there's NO way the Yankees and Hobart win on the same day. IF the Yankees actually play on Saturday(long shot), they are going to get destroyed. Hobart will probably win though.

My take on Union-Hobart:

http://gohobart.blogspot.com/2018/10/week-6-union-game-preview.html?m=1

"On paper this should be a 37-14 Union win." Hmmm, a 23 point loss predicted by ITH....I hope you are totally wrong ......I am praying for a replay of the 2004 game when the goal line stuff by Walt Bennett assisted by Tony Clemente brought glory and the playoffs to the Statesmen in a nail biter OT win. The gutsy comeback wins by our JV at Alfred and St. John Fisher this year shows there is depth and grit in the program despite not having as many "stars"/All-American prospects on this year's team. If everyone does their job, the Statesmen can make a statement......for one day I will suspend my respect for the resurgence of the Dutchmen program as the Statesmen hopefully stuff their surge like Walt Bennett did in 2004. Since Walt is one of our current coaches, the karma should be on our side ;D

Unless its a 3 or 4 way tie and due to SOS you don't get crowned Conference champ and get left out of the playoffs...

Mike Winchell and the Permian Panthers won by a coin toss to get them into the 1988 Texas State Playoffs. I lost a game of tic tac toe on a napkin to my daughter yesterday. Remember that time when everyone licked Willy Wonka's wallpaper? All winners. These days, anything can happen!

Bartman, thanks for putting a names to the DLine guys that held the line in 2004.  I have spoken to Coach Bennett several times in the past couple of years, and hopefully he has instilled the passion in his current players that will be needed to jam up a high flying Union offense
Oline,
Speaking of DEnds which Coach Bennett coaches, it is too bad we can't bring back Tyre Coleman for one game, now that would make  Saturday interesting. This year's team must play as a team and eliminate the foolish penalties because their talent level, while good, isn't good enough to get away with bonehead penalties. I am hoping the two weeks off has allowed for enough healing and mental preparation to protect the Boz. If the OL can run block for  a healthy Dakota Harvey(hope he is 100%) and Milliken , I think our passing attack will benefit . Union has only given up about 2 yards per rush this year(including a banged up Springfield), so it is critical for the 4 games of experience on the Oline to gel and show up ,as we need to average at least 4 yds per rush to open up the passing game. Union has not played a team with our talent at QB and WR , and our RBs are decent receivers. Union gave up 215 yds passing to Coast Guard and 170 to Husson, and while not 300+ numbers, I think our talent should give them a challenge. Hofmann has matured very nicely , and is already a top 20 QB All Time for Hobart in a bunch of
categories and has had only 5 starts in his career( #2 in passer efficiency , #2 in yards per game) .  I think Union will stunt quite a bit based on our films, so our Oline should have been working on that all week. We must score early and not play comeback like we did last year at Union and this season to date....too little too late is a bad story. Our defense will not pitch a shutout, that I know, but we must take some blitz risk in order to contain Bellamy and friends and play as a team. It is stopping Union that may be the most problematic, but if we can hold them under 28, I think our offense will take care of business. Looks like a nice forecast for Saturday which could mean a wild balls in the air shootout . GOBART

Bartman/Statesmen4eva/Pumkinattack,  just confirming with you, to football fans its still The Boz, right?

Caz Bombers

I believe you're referring to John Henry Hobart's Finger Lakin' Good House of Assorted Lacrossery and Generalized Ball Bouncing, Presented by William Smith.

pffft, "The Boz," that'll never catch on

Bartman

For the benefit of all, HWS dedicated the "stadium" to our beloved lacrosse and football coach Urick on September 29, at a non football game Homecoming:

" the Colleges named the stadium at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation in Urick's honor. Following the dedication ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 29, the arena became known as Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium."

The BOZ is the field of play, not the stadium, not the Sports and Recreation Center....we appreciate and love alumnus Caird and Coach Urick......but the game is played on THE BOZ....in fact patches of the earth from the old BOZ (current approximate location of the Library) were placed at the site of the current BOZ physically connecting the games of the past to the present......when a Statesman plays on the BOZ, the energy of the past great performances become your energy.....defend THE BOZ ......it is no guarantee of a win, but a win is expected.
