Not sure if it has been discussed here or not yet, but I hear Union is playing Westfield State next year.  Makes sense as it is probably a quick day tip game (1.5 hour drive)

Good for them. Really raising the bar.

Hmm, nice to firm up some OOC games, but doesn't exactly present a huge challenge.  Has been Union's MO to start out with some easier games before heading into LL

Hey, cut them some slack, they tried to schedule a tougher opponent, but the Skidmore volleyball team has a tournament that weekend.

Let's be honest here and give credit where credit is due...both the Skidmore Woman's and mens Club Volleyball teams will not return Behrman's calls...

If you ask dlip weak scheduling hurt Union last season as they really took awhile to adjust to the LL level of play (see the Hobart and Ithaca results) and were floating on somewhat of a pink cloud going into the Hobart game. Don't get dlip wrong as he was certainly proud of the start his Dutchmen had however he was getting pissed off at some of the attention they were getting as it seemed to take them a bit outside of reality. dlip recalls seeing somewhere before the Hobart game there was a push to name the Dutchmen the D3 team of the month or some **** like that somewhere. dlip just batted his head and was like, "please just concentrate on Hobart..." Obviously that didn't work out as planned.

I'm going to disagree with Dutchboy on Union's OOC schedule and how it did or did not prepare them for their 'LL opener against Hobart last season. Union played two NCAA tournament teams, Husson and Springfield, and solid teams Coast Guard and Curry, and had a bye week before meeting Hobart. They led most of that game before Hobart won 29-28 scoring the go ahead TD with 8:28 left in the 4th quarter so I can't agree that they were under prepared. The following week against Ithaca was a different story.
As for scheduling Westfield St.(if accurate)...The Union AD told me they like to have a yearly presence in New England for recruiting and to give the many Dutchmen from NE a game closer to home. They played home and homes against Husson and Curry the last two years (those are over) and played at Springfield and Coast Guard last season.  They're trying to schedule MIT but maybe at Westfield will have to do.

Springfield, Hobart, MIT, Coast Guard, Husson, etc. = Respectable New England teams. Westfield is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. Maybe it's all they could get and my post was tongue and cheek because, while true, it's not always as easy as we all wish it were. But we're not talking apples to apples comparing Springfield and Husson with Westfield. If they wanted a cakewalk, they coulda just scheduled Western CT.

Thanks Mach for reading my post though it seems that you yet again feel the need to "spill beer on me by mistake." I'm not sure why you focus on disparaging my comments. Maybe you can't stand the thought of a Union guy knowing what he's talking about. My opinion of that is unmistakable... It was Utah that made mention of Union scheduling Westfield St. I can find no confirmation of it, so we'll see. ... Schedule W. Conn? Well Westfield beat W.Conn last season so they're not "bottom of the barrel"....and Union did play and beat W. Conn 28-13 in 2016. Coach Behman's first win at Union. I'm fond of his last. ;D The value of Union scheduling a game in NE each year is unquestioned. Let's wait until the actual schedule is released to comment further...Oh yeah, since when is Hobart a "respectable New England team?"

FYI my source is a kid on the Westfield football team.

Looks like both Franks (RPI) and Schmidt (SLU) are no longer on the AAF Orlando roster but Hobart grad Brandon Shed has joined the San Antonio Commanders in preseason camp. Curious to see if he makes the cut and has some catches this inaugural season.

Footballscoop.com reporting that the SLU defensive coordinator is leaving to go back to Albright. This means the Saints will have their third different DC in as many years. Can't imagine Canton is an easy place to be a young coach, so it makes sense why there is movement every year. Hopefully they find someone who knows what they're getting into in Canton, NY and can get some stability on that side of the ball.

Despite the remote location of Canton, SLU does remarkably well in sports and as an institution . I thought Geneva was remote for a NYC suburbanite until I traveled to play in Canton many years ago, but they have thrived over these many years.... must be the closeness to the fresh Canadian air . Good luck in finding a new DC.

I made my first trip to Canton this past season.  Weather was brutal, but the campus/fans/tailgating and facilities (the indoor facilities were phenomenal) were terrific.  I am sure the right coach is out there.

Well SLU has had HWS' number when it comes to alumni support and they jumped over us in national rankings about a decade ago after being well in our rear view mirror from the 80s to the late 2000's, so they're doing something right.

Speaking of doing something right - Hobart released their 2019 schedule already and it's fantastic. My two cents are below:

That's a tough schedule.  And have always said there is nothing wrong with an tough schedule, as you are most likely only getting in with the pool A anyway.  Good for them.
