I just saw that Brandon Shed of Hobart was signed by BC Lions of the CFL.  I am surprised that he was cut by the upstart AAFC, but signed by the CFL.  I guess the new league has the same old bias towards D1 guys, or washed up NFL guys.  Too bad for the D3 players....

That's not surprising in the slightest. Upstart leagues need to establish an audience, and the easiest way to do that is with names people are likely to recognize. Of course they're going to go with name recognition. They also, again obviously, heavily tilt their rosters to players who went to college in that state.

Name recognition?  I am not talking about Barry Sanders or Lawrence Taylor making a comeback.  I am talking about playing it safe by sticking to unknown players from mediocre D1 programs (Texas Christian, Cincinnati, Toledo, etc.) rather than taking the same risk on a premier athlete from D3 program.  A grand total of 3 players from across D3 made the roster of the new league.  Blown opportunity in my opinion

Yea I'm not so sure.  I would think the CFL is a step above this new league but I could be wrong.  I am interested in this think though.  A lot of high profile ex coaches and athletes involved.

CFL and AAF have similar year 1 payouts but the AAF ratchets up the longer guys play in the league, so long-term, it is probably going to take the best sub-NFL guys because of the better payouts. Curious to see what the product looks like on the field. Sadly the beautiful weather we had earlier here in Orlando has turned to clouds and rain, albeit light. Hopefully the AAF (at least ATL and Orlando) practices the wet ball drill...

Maybe they'll want him back after week #4 and no one gives a **** about it anymore...

The AAF has legs. Don't see folks losing interest given time of year and nothing else on. NBA games now are meaningless, no MLB, etc.

I don't see them selling tickets in places like Atlanta or Arizona.  I watched but honestly it was like watching the 4th quarter of the last NFL preseason games.  But there are more cable channels now so I could be wrong.  I do like basketball though and can watch random ncaa or nba games with top teams

I don't think the league itself is gonna make it more than a year or two, but a lot of these innovations will be co-opted by the NFL in short order IMO.

Big happenings on Hobart campus.  New president starting in July, hopefully a permanent AD to follow.  Biggest news, however, is the "Bubble" is open.  Lax has already practiced indoors, football strength and conditioning will take advantage of the facility soon as well.  Dome is high enough to allow punting/kicking, very cool.

Just don't see it happening. Maybe it'll work for a season or so but dlip thinks it bites the bullet like any and all others that have tried to vompete with the NFL. dlip would rather watch inter-mural ****ing ping pong.

Let's bring back the New Jersey Generals!

Hey.. I used to watch all those guys with the pencil grip play at the RPI student union... some of them were really good!!! ;D ;D
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Speaking of RPI, Union and Hobart; broke down some of the 2019 schedules that are out so far as well noted a couple of early Bart "commits", including the QB from Holderness who looks pretty athletic. Played in an 8-man league which I wasn't aware of being a thing up in the NE (we have a TON of 7-7 down here in FL).

With a much appreciated assist from James Baker and gohobart.blogspot.com Union's 2019 schedule is as follows:
9/7      Westfield St.
9/14  @Anna Maria
9/21     Springfield
9/28     Bye
10/5     Hobart
10/12  @Rochester
10/19   St. Lawrence
10/26   @Buffalo St.
11/2     @Ithaca
11/9     Utica
11/16    RPI

After two seasons with only four regular season home games the Dutchmen will have 6 home games in 2019. All Union fans should be hopeful and excited for the upcoming season.
