We talked  a lot about Union's less demanding OOC schedule, Cortland looks to have taken the same approach.  It will be interesting to see how Cortland looks against Utica in their first conference game
With Union on a bye this week I'm bored so I thought I'd comment on this. There's also a fact revealed that might amuse some.  ;D

I've acknowledged how Union has seemingly chosen to play an easier OOC schedule and have given my opinion as to why...Lack of a JV program...Difficulty scheduling other more desirable opponents...a desire to turn the record around with a new coach following an 0-10 season.  For the Dutchmen it's hard to argue that it hasn't worked.

Cortland really hasn't followed suit. They have a JV program. In fact their JV play Ithaca this Sunday. They have played "cupcake" Fitchburg State the last 2 years, but they've also scheduled Framingham St. and this year TCNJ and Buffalo St., not strong teams but not pushovers. Remember they also play Ithaca OOC. IMO not the same as Union.

I've always had the utmost respect and an affinity for Cortland. It was my safety school. I chose Union over the Red Dragons and RPI (yes, you read that right :o). My mother was also a Cortland grad. Their game against Utica will show us if they're an E8 power. I'm thinking this may be their year.

Still wondering who else still has a JV program?

Thoughts on this Union vs. Cortland OOC thing:

Union was, of course, playing IC OOC in 2009, and, presumably would have continued had IC not moved to the LL.

TCNJ, who was long a Cortland conference opponent (which likely explains why they are still playing) has had two winning seasons in the last 14 years. They're not a pushover, but they're not the kind of team you really earn an OOC badge for playing.

From 2006 to 2012, Cortland won 9 games five separate times. They're not quite that consistent any more, but the Red Dragons were really underrated as an very good East team. I agree with you. This is their year to win the E8.

Ohhh, snippy SNAP. I remember a time when Union football faithful blamed the slump years and the fall of Audino to the support of the Hockey program.....looks like they can do both now.....must be taking money away from the debate team recruits because even HWS can beat them

Ice Bear always loved playing/losing to such a respected program as IC. He really loves that they are part of the LL. Maybe someday his beloved Garnet will win in the brush (Butterfield).

Ice Bear has always respected the Cortland program and agrees that this may be their year to take the E8.

LL goes 4-2 this week, Power Ranking summary Week 4:

1. Ithaca hangs on at Butterfield to beat SJF 38-35 as Joe G and friends score 38 in fist half and 0 in second half . Takeaways: Joe G is as awesome as advertised, but can have an "RPI Playoff Game " performance when  pressured, and the IC defense is vulnerable. Tip of the cap to the Fishermen. IC will face another strong passing game from the Saints next week.
2. Hobart beats a tough Montclair State team 16-3 with DEFENSE and possession offense. Montclair had some talented defenders and a massive Oline that the more nimble Hobart defense handled. Hobart's HC DeWall has big  spheres after having a successful fake punt called back for penalty then calling another fake punt for the first down. Flee flicker and two reverses were also successful to put a hard hitting MSU defense on their heels. Hobart Center has had some issues with snap accuracy, so 1000 snaps in practice this week. Also Hobart gets out of the gate slowly(yesterday had to settle for 2 FGs on 2 good initial drives) Otherwise, Hobart is ready to compete.
3. Union rested well and watched the beginning of Hockey practice. They should also be ready for the visiting Statesmen.
4.RPI beats Anna Maria by lots and should be ready to defend the title starting with the Yellowjackets.
5. SLU has a strong passing game and defense is showing up beating Hartwick 33-0 and may be encouraged after watching tape of the Bombers second half against SJF.....SLU could catch one of the top four for an upset this year.
6. Buff State Bengals fell to the Red Dragons, and get a bye this week. They are also looking to upset the top four, but it will be tough.
7. Yellowjackets need beaucoup recruits for next year as they fell to Alfred by many this week.

If you play the halves of the IC-Fisher game out of order, it ends with Bahamonde winning the game with a 47-yard kick as time expires. Even more exciting!

That was an utterly incomprehensible game. In the first half, it looked like Fisher not only couldn't play with IC physically (all three of Gladney's TD's were just him dominating the corner with his size and speed) but were unprepared--the Cardinals didn't see IC's onside from midfield coming even though the Bombers had run the exact same thing against Alfred a week earlier, but they got bailed out by an offsides call.

And then in the second half, everything was flipped. Fisher's WRs were just blowing by IC's corners. Their QB had the defense all flustered with his legs. And IC could not get a pass to connect, whether it was due to a poor throw, dropped pass, on good coverage. Also, a curious coaching decision to not try a FG to make a 38-27 lead 41-27 in the 3rd quarter. Although they got the first down, a penalty wiped it all out.

Frankly, I think sometimes, Fisher fans use "inconsistency" to describe the natural ebb and flow of a football game--you're always going to have some drives that look better than others--but in this case, yeah, this is two weeks in a row that they've followed up a godawful first-half with a dominating second.

IC's pass defense still is a work in progress--which probably makes the Alfred game very disconcerting if you root for the Saxons--but right now, the passing offense (and special teams!) is making up for it. 3-0
