............TIME OF POSSESSION STATS............................................
ITHACA 44:26
CORTLAND 15:34

.............TASTE IT!!!!!!!!.....................................

I rest my case.

Anyway, Segala getting DQ'd at the end may blow up the HOB-COR NYS bowl game. MOR winning means there's another potential rematch which potentially f's things up for another year.

Guess we'll see Sunday.

What happened?

Refs threw a Cortland player out of the game for making contact with a ref.  I didn't see it but it happened after an Ithaca interception that out the game away

Thanks.  Interesting.  At any rate, congrats to the Bombers for the strong finish.  And after all the drama, glad to see Germinerio show the world what he can do on the big stage.

I'm hoping it's enough to push the Bombers back in the regional top ten, and in the process, knock Endicott out, which I'm hoping might somehow be enough to bump Union over Del Val and Wesley in the seedings.  Would make rather face a NE team in round one with hopes of a second home game, then run the risk of having to play Mt. Union in Ohio in round 2.  Though, for the record, I think the Dutchmen are capable of anything this year.

Fun fact - Union returns 10 starters on offense next year, including Bellamy, Ross, Irabor and the whole O-line..  (Defense will have a lot more to replace.)

The thing about this Union team is their depth. Some of you made fun of their early "cupcake schedule". I looked at it as a way to get younger players a look-see to form depth, in consideration that they do not play a JV schedule. Seems to have worked out.
Today RPI saw just what that depth could do. Union was without 2 defensive starters, one of which was LB captain and playmaker Evan Gilland but you would never know it. Soph Connor Fitzgerald was the next man up and did a great job. Union's D-line stepped up and was all over RPI's QB George Marinopoulos sacking him 7 times. and holding him to only 131 yards passing... Next year the defense will have a lot to replace...DiCaterino, Reed, Chambers, Knox, Vanderhoof, Guinee(started early before injury) and Gilland are all senior starters. K/P Will Halpin will be missed and of course on O, WR Griffen Beal... Thing is there's plenty more in the waiting to go with Jr. stalwarts Colin Lama, Dan Gioloso, Bellamy, his O-line, Sirmon and the super soph playmakers Ross and Irabor  ... Coach Behrman has a plan and it's unfolding just fine thank you.

Imagine how badly Ithaca would've stomped Cortland if they had started locker room favorite Nabi.  Ithaca definitely looked flat with Germinerio in there.

Ice Bear

Ice Bear says first and foremost congrats to RPI on not mailing it in after their loss to SLU and really stepping up with a HUGE win against Ithaca. Ice doesn't know for sure if today was a combination of Union just kicking ass on all cylinders, RPI not executing, or a combo of both meeting somewhere in the middle. RPI will be back for sure.

Congrats to IC on their Corteca win on the HUGE national stage. Joe G played tough and made a lot of **** happen today. Good for him. It'll be interesting to find out the specifics regarding Segala. Ice hopes it was an accident and not intentional. We all **** up.

Also a very nice W by Hobart today.

Ice is really somewhat speechless/type-less about his beloved Dutchmen and their 10-0 season. This is cup runneth over type **** (in a football sense, not real world sense). Ice is just going to respectfully enjoy this moment for now. This program was turned over from top to bottom and within a short period of time we got here, where we've dreamed of being since 2005/06. Ice is feeling very fortunate.

Ice Bear and his Dutch friends deserve to enjoy this moment. All the best in the playoff run. Bartman remembers the 3 consecutive undefeated seasons from 2012-2014 very fondly , with great players like Ali Marpet,  Tyre Coleman and Steven Webb and a team that played together and did not let up going 34-3 over those 3 years. It is a great feeling but you can't expect it, your team has to earn it. I think the LL will be extremely competitive and everyone will have to emulate the concentration and intensity that this year's Union team and the old Hobart teams showed every week. Enjoy it....but the Statesmen are getting ready to greet the Dutchmen next year at the BOZ....we will make you earn it..... but that will be next year...2019 is the Dutchmen's year.

The cupcake non con schedule is what it is.  If you run the table it doesn't matter.  If you need the pool c it might matter a lot.  But also agree with you that it can help build the team early.  And you have less of a risk of losing like Ithaca or Hobart might against the teAms they played.  I've always had the opinion that it almost always works itself out in the end. The teams that make the d3 playoffs usually deserve it and the teams that don't had their chances fair and square.

Gioioso is a stud and I'll be routing for him and Ike, two guys I coached against in HS

UfanBill

LB Colin Lama is also from Xaverian. He and Gioloso came together...if you go, I go...Irabor a year later. That's precisely why Union likes to play a game in Massachusetts every year.

I will be taking the next few months to write up a dissertation on TOP. It shall be named something like:

TOP: It only matters when it matters

Some chapters will be:

I: When you win the game, but lose the TOP battle, TOP doesn't matter.
II: When you lose the game, but win the TOP battle, TOP doesn't matter.
III: When you win the game, and win the TOP battle, you win because of your TOP.
IV: When you lose the game, and lose the TOP battle, you lose because of your lack of TOP.
V: When to use TOP to make personnel decisions.

Jonny Utah will be used for statistical references. There isn't a better SME in the game these days.

I will also be listing my POWER TOP rankings for the 2017-2019 seasons.

I think it will be an enjoyable read. I'll be sure to update everyone here on the progress. I know there will be an unchartered level of anticipation.

Interesting.  I would love to write or contribute a few chapters or maybe a forward to your book Mach.

But it might have to wait, I am also writing my own book on the subject:

WELCOME TO HELL
An inside look at the 2019 Eureka Red Devils season.

For those who don't know, Eureka College won this years TOP National Championship, with a nation leading 323 total minutes of possession and a 35 minute per game average.  Eureka head coach Kurt Barth (how great is that name?!?!) will also be the first guest on Jonny Utah's "TOP podcast".  We will talk about how Eureka dominated TOP this year and how it affected the morale of other teams, some of which benched their starting quarterbacks and changed offensive philosophies in order to reset the TOP balance.

The JU podcast team will also be presenting the TOP "Swatch Watch" award to Coach Barth and each member of the team will receive their own national championship watch.

Eureka finished the season at 6-4 but we don't care about that stuff.  Congrats to coach Barth and the 2019 TOP National Champions!!!!!!!

SR QB Brett Segala was ejected for accidentally bumping into an official at the end of the Cortaca game. Cortland is appealing the decision, otherwise he'll have to sit out of the 1st half of their next game on Saturday. More on that in a cpl of hours.

"accidentally" the ref's words or Cortland's?  Honest question I didn't see it.

TOP jokes aside, Ithaca had a specific game plan going into this Cortland game and I guess it worked.  Joe G. ran the ball 34 times for 154 yards.  He ran QB Draw, Iso, power, sweep, Trap, and maybe even an Counter Trey in there.  Not all of them looked like great decisions and it wasn't always clear to me how many of them were the coaches decision or Joe's based on RPO's, defensive looks, etc.  Ithaca's offense in general rarely used a fullback/H back/TE so I'm wondering if Joe G. running was in response to the last two weeks were teams just gave them the run and let them spill the inside zone to the outside where OLBs were waiting?

Ithaca also had two big calls to go for TDs on 4th and 3rd and medium in the second half that resulted in two TDs.  Coach S. gets some serious props for those two calls.

Cortland's passing game looked weak, but their run game looked real strong on one drive in the 2nd quarter, but they never seemed to go back to it for whatever reason.  I know they were down by 3 scores in the 3rd but they still had enough time to try to get one good drive in.  Overall a sloppy offensive day for the Red Dragons.

Eureka is our beacon of TOP. I just want to know IF Cortland had stopped Ithaca instead of Ithaca scoring on the last Germ to Vito pass , and instead Cortland  had gone in to score and win 27-26 , they still would have lost the TOP by a massive 44-16 margin, but won the game....I guess the TPO god influenced that last Germ to Vito TD pass ....otherwise I am looking forward to the TOP Master class by JU and Mach.....and I want that Swatch TOP watch ;D

I'm curious about this too. It's a fair question. All of the other BS aside, is there any video footage or anything of the situation? Has to be somewhere. It sounded ugly when I first read about it, but if it's truly an accident I think it would be good to clear the kid's name. Never want to hear/see that kinda stuff.
