To you RPI alums:

Your team is 3-0 and has had two home games with beautiful fall weather for football. However, recorded attendance was only 485 and 237 for those games. What's up with that? ???
As per Rensselaer's plan to return to campus-based operations of August 13, 2021, external spectators are not permitted at this time. Only RPI faculty, staff and students who are fully compliant with the Institute's COVID-19 protocols are allowed to attend games.

This may have been discussed already and forgive me if it has. I wonder if this will have an affect on RPI's ability to host in postseason, pending it should want to.

Last report was that RPI was not allowing spectators in the stadium

Last week the LL went 3-2 against the E8, 5-2 OOC and is 15-5 Out Of Conference YTD. Top 4 are still 3-0 Union, Ithaca, Hobart and RPI, while SLU is 2-1, Rochester at 1-2, hung in with Brockport losing 16-7 and Buff State got crushed by a strong Cortland team. Bartman went 7-0 in picks last week, and predicts for WEEK 4:

St. John Fisher              14                 RPI                    31               Engineer offense moves the ball well in all phases, 400 fans

Union                           28                 Utica                  21                Utica is tough, as Dutchmen sweat out another week

Buffalo State                 21                 Mo'ville St          17               Bengals get to celebrate this week in squeaker

Castleton                      17                 SLU                    31              Saints beat common opponent Norwich soundly

Keystone                        0                 Hobart                55              Good luck to the young Keystone program at the Boz

Predicting a sweep for the LL , as Ithaca and Rocha cha rest up for the start of the LL action on 10/2 when a great season really starts

So students are allowed, and they still only mustered 237 attendance?  Library must have been a packed house.....

RPI has not allowed fans, other than their own students, into their home stadium for games. We covered it on our show and it's been chronicled elsewhere, but RPI parents and family have to sit on a hill, outside the stadium, to see their sons play. No fans etc. from away teams allowed either. So a 5K+ capacity stadium where social distancing would be pretty easy to ensure, isn't being utilized at all by the institution.

Thanks for the explanations, gentlemen.  While I can understand the caution, still it seems strange. Even our Hope College, which has been extremely cautious and previously somewhat restrictive  regarding covid protocols, has allowed "all" spectators to games this fall for all sports. Masks, however, are still required for inside all buildings.

I just don't understand not allowing the parents to attend an outdoor sport. Make them be vaccinated, make them wear masks outside ( ::), make them sit 60 feet apart,  whatever, but they should certainly be able to attend their kids games. At most, you would have 200 parents in a stadium that seats 5K fans. This just makes me mad, and I'm not even involved, I can't imagine how livid these parents are. Absolutely ridiculous, I have to question the RPI administrations thought process.

Agreed.  I have been to 2 Hobart games past weekends, and a Columbia game this weekend.  Full stands, masks when indoors.  Great atmoshpere.  RPI is doing a serious diservice to athletes, parents and fans.

Proud to have RPI in the Liberty League overall.....but this policy is way behind any pandemic science....you can never get that very special year back for the parents

So I had some free time, and decided to create a ranking of "best football program" (as determined by current top 25 rankings) and "best college" (as determined by US News, which admittedly is deeply flawed ranking system):

1. Johns Hopkins
2. Union College
3. Wheaton College
4. Case Western
5. Wabash
6. Muhlenberg
7. Centre
8. RPI
9. Hobart
10. Centre

Feel free to discuss.... ;) ;)

Wow.  Well on one hand I don't think this will come close to the attendance record from two years ago, but it's still an awesome experience for the players, coaches, fans, etc.  I will have to think seriously about going down for this one.  I've watched (and coached) in two games at Fenway Park.  Amazing experience and can imagine Yankee Stadium would be similar....

I heard the local bars and restaurants in Cortland and Ithaca will be protesting this event.......first you have Covid , then you take a big revenue day to the Bronx, not to mention the overtime for the local police departments :'( ;)
