Talk about a key play. A mistake riddled Union was behind 17-7, playing lackluster, with Hobart driving for another score when RB Tim Denham is stripped of the football. Union immediately scores to make it 17-14. gets the ball back and scores again...21-17 Union at the half...Donovan Pacatte is 8/10 152 yards and 3 TDs. Two to Nicholas Dunneman, 5/119!

The Ithaca game looks like a good one but I wouldn't know for sure since the camera shakes and bounces so much it is almost impossible to watch.

RPI just scored on a nice long TD pass. I think the PAT was good based on it being 10-10, but the camera just showed some dudes on the sideline.

Caz Bombers

Bombers hold on and finally!!!!!!! They beat RPI!

Machiavelli

RPI had a real shot to pull off their wizardry, but a wide open WR dropped the ball on a big 4th down and Ithaca runs the clock out. A catch would've made it VERY interesting. Throw couldn't have been much better. Tough play to lose on. 3 losses by 3 points. RPI offense didn't do anything I had hoped in the spirit of trick plays and/or taking chances. More vanilla garbage and couldn't reward the defense for a great outing. Congrats to the Bombers. Please destroy Union. Thanks.

It is over and Ithaca has finally killed the magic.  In all seriousness, Ithaca had more magic today than RPI had.  No flukes, just good defensive football from both teams.  Ithaca depends on that screen pass but RPI always has tough defensive backs that will not be blocked.  The thing with RPI isn't that they get fluky magic plays, its that that for like 6 out of 7 offensive plays they look horrible.  Then that 7th play they have some perfect executed play that beats you.  Nothing lucky, just good execution.  Ithaca's defense is just tough to move the ball on.  RPI had two long passes and I'm not 100% sure if they were against the corner who replaced Robinson.  Hopefully that spot doesn't impact Ithaca down the stretch.  Ithaca also has a much better run game than last year.  Swanstrom's teams were solid all around, but seemed to struggle with basic inside zone/trap stuff.  This years team seems to really move the ball with the run much better.

Anyway, we could still see a three way tie in the LL I think (haven't checked the Union/Hobart score yet) so who knows what happens down the road.

Looks like Hobart already beat Union. Ha. Nice.

Where do I start...Union shuts themselves out in the second half....Missed opportunities fueled by misuse of their offensive weapons and questionable play calling allowed Hobart to hang around, score on a late bomb, and beat the Dutchmen 23-21....SMFT

Yea.  But that really doesn't matter if they beat IC and RPI right?  Odd how that happens but I believe RPI has won the LL like that correct?

Who wins a 3-way tie this year?

Don't think you can have a 3 way tie at this point?  Union already lost.  If they win out, they get in with head to head vs Ithaca.  Union has that one loss so if RPI beats them and Ithaca loses to Union then Ithaca still goes (Ithaca and RPI would be 6-1).  RPI is out if I am calculating this correctly.

Roger that. So Ithaca wins, they win. Union wins then beats RPI, they win. Union wins, loses to RPI, Ithaca wins. That accurate?

Congratulations to the Bombers on one ugly win. RPI couldn't get it done in the red zone. You could say it was great Bomber defense but I think it was bad execution by the RPI defense. RPI had a chance at the end but they couldn't rip the hearts out of the Bombers on a last minute drive the way they did to Hobart. Ithaca's best game was against Hobart and they deserve to be undefeated, but I don't see the kind of separation that doesn't make them vulnerable to an upset by Union. Union long passing game is impressive .
Congratulations to Bartman's Statesmen for getting a pride win against the Dutchmen today, although it was another ugly win with 3 billion penalties by the full Orange Pumpkinheads. At least we protected the Boz against one of the top 3. That last 2 minute drive for the win by RPI 2 weeks ago really  hurts even more. Bartman will be rooting for the Dutchmen to win out for the LL title and then for the Bombers to beat Cortland, getting 2 NCAA berths for the LL.
"Raise the Orange and Purple high, let us shame them never(well at least not today), shout the triumph to the sky....HIP HOBART FOREVER" was officially  sung at the conclusion the game  today ;D

Yea I think Ithaca had a little more luck today.  Even a few passes were caught in coverage that could have been picked if the DBs turned a certain way.  Ithaca did have two touchdowns called back on penalties though but one of them you could see was a clear hold and the other one was also right in front of the ref on the Ithaca sideline and they didin't argue it.  RPI had two late hit penalties that I thought were questionable.  One where Wingfield was gunning for the first down out of bounds and got hit at the marker.  The other was on a punt return that I didn't see at all.  Ithaca also started to play conservative at times when I don't think they needed too.  It was like both teams were scared to run a trick play or take a chance.

Hopkins losing might but a wrench in the LL 2 berths.  But Susquehanna is also a top 25 team.  Frank R. mentioned some controversy at the end of that game but I don't see any comments about it here.

Ice Bear

Ice Bear sends his congrats to the Pumpkinheads and the Pumpkinhead faithful (Ice is happy for you Bartman) for their victory over Union today. There were mother****ing pumpkin seeds left all over the field today by the Statesmen in a game where even though they took 50 penalties for a combined 1,000 yards they STILL deserved to beat the Dutchmen with their tough D and timely O. Ice is happy for Krewson as a senior to have TWO big TD throws. Ice knows the kid has struggled at times this season but he battled today and Ice is happy for him. That ****ing Pumpkin D front really took it to Union's O-line and bent, at times, but certainly didn't break. Overall, maybe an ugly W for Hobart but certainly a hard fought one where they made the plays on both sides of the ball when they needed to. For that, they deserve total respect.

Ice says as far as Union goes, well this team is simply just a good football team and nothing more. They have tremendous potential on offense at this level yet they have not gelled in a manner that has shown consistency vs tough competition (even average competition???). They have a defense that can be opportunistic at times, with that said, they are well below average defending the pass, both short and long, and they are not consistently tough up the middle against the run. Krewson would have had two or three more today if he didn't overthrow his receivers as Union CB's were beaten soundly on more than a couple of plays. This team has the potential to beat IC if they play their best football...Ice doesn't see it happening. Today they were beaten by a team that wanted it more and made the plays when needed. Union had the entire second half to put the game away and the gamely Statesmen shut them down.

Also, congrats to IC on the hard fought W. Congrats to a ****ing tough RPI team for always giving IC a hell of a ****ing game. Ice believes, in his mind that Union now sits at the 4 spot in the LL as far as the ranking of the top 4 goes.
A long time fan of DIII Football!
