You're probably right Utah that Pacatte is the one to stay with, but his inconsistency has really hurt the Union O at times throughout the season. Union just hasn't played against an opponent, aside from Ithaca (and Rochester-ish) that could really make Union pay for it. The past two weeks there has been inclement weather to take into account as well as the fact that he has, many times this season, thrown some beautiful balls. He also is an excellent leader and very tough competitor. I know I have been critical of him at times but I really do like him. Maybe the issue on Saturday was the fact that he hasn't seen the defensive speed and astute coverage like he was seeing with Ithaca.

I believe the pass you are speaking of, when Union was on the 10 yard line (I believe it was a first down). His receiver split the DB and safety and was wide open. Pacatte elected to throw the ball on the turf and go to the next play. I was very frustrated by that. Maybe there is an injury here like there was with Bellemy the season before last? Who knows? Pacatte's a great young man and competitor and I hope he finds his mojo over the next three weeks. I think Saturday Union will need him to throw the ball well in order to have a chance.

I just took a look at Pacatte's career stats and last Saturday was his worst game in his career. I'm sure he'll start Saturday , although some of his passes were really off. It was raining, but frankly it wasn't that bad....Bombers also get credit for rushing him. Pacatte is a big strong lad that causes issues for the LBs when he decides to run.He is not a Wingfield or even a Colombi when he takes off but he gets it done. Patch will need to wait his turn.
Weather outlook for Saturday is rain, so run game and defense should dominate.

Maybe this is off topic, and I feel like maybe this topic has was brought up years ago...but I just rewatched the first episode of 'Friday Night Lights'(the series), and Matt Saracen may have been the worst casting ever in a sports movie. He was goofy as sh!t, had zero throwing motion, and just no credibility, whatsoever, in a moment where real football folk watched. It's not like Bev Hills 90210 where you don't really take the sports seriously. This was the series based on one of the best Football, if not all sports movies, ever made. Varsity Blues is clearly the best. So, I urge you, can anyone give me a casting that's worse? I dare you...and don't say Adam Sandler in 'The Longest Yard', he can ball.

Tim Robbins pitching in Bull Durham. He looked like a lefty trying to throw righty.

Good one! Though Bull Durham isn't one of my Top 10 sports flicks, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Kenny Powers was pretty bad, but it kind of added to the hilarity given the role. FNL was just such a serious show, the athletes should have been, well, athletes. Jon Moxon and Lance Harbor probably both could've had full boats somewhere, minus the acting careers. Mike Winchel, not the best ever, but clearly he was picked because he could toss it a little. Charlie 'Wild Thing' Sheen had a great throwing motion. Steamin' Willie Beamen wasn't great, but wasn't terrible. Joe Kane, total beast. Jerry the Rev Harris and Ronnie Sunshine Bass, totally believable. Vince Papale, a little small, but he had motors. Even Shane Falco was partially believable. Matt Saracen...Total embarassment to football.

Loved Stallone in Victory...however the game scenes with him in goal...the Balboa grunts didn't quite take to the soccer field. It was brutal but I loved it.

Rob Lowe fit in Youngblood until the skating scenes...the double and Lowe were less than mobile on the ice.

Also, I recall looking at Chelcie Ross as Eddie Harris in Major League. Initially I thought his wind-up/delivery was atrocious...then I remembered Charlie Hough and found it a perfect match.

I gotta go with Madonna in "A League of Their Own"....kinda short on glove skills......Geena Davis, though, was an animal  behind the plate. ;D

I just read that Wingfield's leg was broken. That sucks for him. I'm sure the team will rally around his absence and bring home the win and the LL title for him from Rochester. It was a pleasure watch AJ compete for the Bombers over his career.

Few things re: Union

I don't think the offense is low ceiling at all. 534 yards against Rochester. Yeah they struggled against Ithaca in the rain and on the road but...Ithaca's really good.

This isn't like Brockport, which had basically resigned itself to never throwing the ball before they made the switch. He had 52 touches last week. Guy's a senior second team all LL QB and until a week ago, was piloting an unbeaten team.

I never played, but it feels like benching him would be a good way to lose the locker room

I'm also not sure what it accomplishes this year. I don't see a world where they make the playoffs even if they do go 9-1. Too many other teams played nationally elite competition.

This is awful news. My thoughts go out to him. Young man is tough as nails. I agree, it was a pleasure to watch him compete.

There have been more physically gifted and prolific QBs that I've seen play for IC. There has never been a tougher QB. A.J had a knack for raising his game in big moments, and few injuries have bummed me out more.

Maybe the Liberty League will start getting some national attention next season as the son of ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano just committed to Union.

I'll always remember the 2021 game in Ithaca when Hobart came in for a match up of 2 undefeated teams(sound familiar) and Wingfield moved his shoulder to make it look like he was going to pass and boom he was off like a jack rabbit right up the middle of the field for 27 yards and the first TD. Hobart came back for a 21-14 lead , and then AJ led his team to the tie and won the game on a 30 yard TD pass to Vito. I knew he was a special  leader and did what it took to win the game. He should be proud of his career. He will be successful at whatever he chooses in life.

James Baker mentioned it on his "'Comin Atcha..Hobart Football " blog, he also does IntheHuddle on Facebook with Frank Rossi and speaks to the coaches/SIDs regularly in D3 football ....I'm assuming his comment is accurate, but if he's wrong, I'm wrong

It aligns with what we've heard as well, but we don't consider our second-hand source to be official enough to actually declare that he's done for the year. We just dealt with it on the podcast this morning as talking about what we think is ahead for Ithaca if that is indeed the case.

Thanks Pat. Wingfield would play in a leg cast if he could.
