Here's a cool Wiki link to D3 Football Programs w/ Enrollment(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_III_football_programs). While I do think it's wild to see some of these #'s(like Bethany with 650 students), I don't think the size of enrollment is really any type of apples to apples comparison. Johns Hopkins, for instance has 26K students. The bottom line is some kids get recruited to play football there, and at every school, to fill the rosters. Coaches look for athletes that fit a particular mold

Highly recommend this page on D3football.com for that info as well:
https://www.d3football.com/teams/index

We limit our numbers to full-time undergraduates, which I think makes sense for the athletics world.

Union is getting plenty of recognition from the Liberty League weekly in football and other sports. Nationally by D3football? Other  than the O-line Week#6, RBs Michael Fiore, Jonathan Anderson, K Max Gluck and LB Spencer Goldstein have had outstanding weeks but have not been chosen by D3football.com. My question is have they been nominated. Pat?

It would take me a long time to go through three positions times eight weeks to find out. Union has nominated players, for sure, but can't easily speak to those specific players unless you give me a week or weeks.

You've thought of everything! :-) Totally missed that. Thanks for the link. I get a little too overwhelmed with the 47 Region layouts. LOL.

Regions are like cowbell - more is better.  We should go all in with 32 micro-regions, each with one playoff bid.  Could have a special master draw them each year and gerrymander the crap out of them.  I'd like Union to be "Ugly Northeast Rust Best City" region that snakes through Utica, Schenectady, Worcester, Springfield and Danbury.  RPI could be in an all-Engineers region,  UofR in the Flying Insects Region.  And so forth.

Phenomenal idea! I'd lobby for 'changed nickname for no reason' and 'trademarked colors' regions as well. And let's not forget the all powerful 'Delaware Valley' region that has 1 team, Delaware Valley.

Seeing Ithaca and Hobart are the sole Finger Lakes teams, I think a great name for the region would be the "Catalina wine mixer" region.  On second thought I like the "Boats and Hoes" region a little better....

I think this is kind of a testament to the team-first nature of the squad this year.  #4 in total defense, #8 in rushing offense, but all about 22 guys doing their job rather than individual star turns.  Love it, actually.

Playing Hilbert and Worcester State helps too...

Sure, but playing Ithaca, Springfield and Hobart doesn't. But thanks for that helpful reminder about how the law of averages works.  I had forgotten.

Remind us of who's your team. NJAC maybe? and have them call the Union AD.

Actually, I'm genuinely happy you made this jab.  If you omit those two games but leave everyone else's two weakest opponents in the stats, Union drops to a pitiful #13 in both total defense and rushing offense nationally.

Thanks. I'd say it's hit-or-miss but way better than some programs.

Just looked up that week where Jaden Duncan put up good numbers.  It does look like a tough week although I think he could have gotten it over Sauerwein.  The team of the week picks also have some game narrative along with these stats to put them into perspective.

Duncan/Union: 4 tackles, 2 TFL, INT for a TD, blocked FG
Copp/Alfred: 19 tackles, 10 solo, 2 TFL, 1 fumble recovery
Miller/North Park: 9 tackles, INT, 3 sacks, 4 TFL
Kahin/Augsburg: 7 tackles, 6 solo, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 sacks, 1 pass breakup
Sauerwein/St. Olaf: 10 tackles/10 solo, 2 TFL and one pass breakup

As for the Ithaca oline, I'd say they had a daunting task having a new freshman QB starting his first game.  Rochester would be looking to stop the run and force this new QB into situations to make him uncomfortable.  The IC oline did not let that happen and gave up zero sacks while allowing the new QB to go 11/19 and still getting over 300 rushing yards.

That all makes sense to me; I certainly wasn't meaning to complain about either.  Particularly on defense, I'm sure there are a dozen guys every week with a gaudy stat line, so there are always a lot of plausible ways to go.  I've always assumed there's something of an affirmative action approach, spreading the nods out over time to a range of different programs/individuals when the opportunity arises.  That seems fine to me; it would get boring just to hand out the o-line award to North Central every week.
