Hobart and JHU should be all over this kid.  I assume Hobart wouldn't be in this kid's way if he wanted to play lacrosse and football?  Would they tell this kid no?  I assume he is allowed to play both.

EDIT:  He has entered the transfer portal and wants to play lacrosse.

Also see that Ithaca is looking for a week 3 game.  That was the Alfred game last year.

Saw this on ESPN. Buchner was a very highly touted Lax recruit out of CA. It will be interesting to see where he lands. I agree that the Statesmen and Blue Jays should absolutely be all over him.

Never mind it looks like he is going back to ND to play lacrosse.  Hobart should still give him a call though!

Reports say he has indeed decided to go back to ND for lacrosse. Hobart would definitely allow him to play both sports but ND lax programs is a National Championship level lacrosse program, while Hobart has struggled to win a conference title and get in to the NCAA tournament. Hopkins might have a better chance. Interesting that he has given up on football , I guess the one bad start at Alabama and the OC he followed there not encouraging him after Milroe obviously is their future, has soured Buchner on his own football future. He is an incredible athlete that would really be exciting to see play D3 football and D1.  lacrosse, but doesn't look like it's in the cards.

I think we are on the verge of a coaching search on the South Hill. Dan Swanstrom is going to take the Cornell HC job and with Bob Chesney to JMU, I think coach terp is going to be in demand else where. Nothing confirmed but the writing is on the wall.

I also would not blame him whatsoever if he decided to take a Cornell DC job or JMU DB/LB job. Keep your eyes and ears open over the next few weeks.

Let the games begin. I would not be surprised if Terp is gone to be his DC by Christmas. Again, I don't fault him for this at all. Excited for the Ithaca coaching search. I should note this is all speculation on my end and don't have any actual sources telling me anything about Ithaca.

I doubt this will be the case

I don't think Toerper will be going anywhere. The pay difference would likely not be substantial enough to get him to move. Especially when he can continue to dominate the Liberty League in hopes of something bigger and better.

Why don't you think this would be the case? I will lay out why I think it makes sense,

In Swanstrom's only stint as a head coach he picked Terp to be his DC. They now have history at two places and had a tremendous amount of success while working together at Ithaca. College coaching is all about who you know and having your guys. Swanstrom only knows Mike Terp as his defensive coordinator. Terp has continued to prove himself as a coach and is quite literally still in Ithaca, it requires no change of life for Mike and his family and it will absolutely be a step up in pay. He is right in Swanstrom's backyard. How many times have you seen coaches hop between jobs and bring their guys with them, it happens all the time. Reeder followed Swanstrom from Ithaca to Penn. Clearly they know how to work together and know the area and how to recruit kids to the area. I think it only makes sense. At this point and as I think about it, I would be more surprised if Terp doesn't leave than if he does.

I understand the logic of the decision. I'm basing it off of things I've heard

Yea I don't want to comment because this is a situation where you kind of need to know things first hand.

What is interesting is that only two of the eight Ivy coaches played in the Ivy leagues.  Five of them were d3 players (Rhodes, Worcester St, Springfield, Williams and Albany).  Dartmouth has an interim HC from Florida.

Interesting Coaching carousel between the Ivies and LL current or past coaches. I mentioned when Poppe took the Columbia job, it was a job where coaches go to die, and Cornell has only been a small step up with  3 Ivy titles all time. The glory year was 1970 with Ed Marinaro ,a one man offense and ultimately a TV actor...that was only 53 years ago. It will be interesting to see how much success Columbia and Cornell have with these LL coaches, but it does reflect positively on the league. I'm hoping Hobart can catch a few recruits while Union and Ithaca are distracted :)

To paraphrase Nick Nolte in Blue Chips:

"This aint about education, it aint much about winning, and it sure aint much about [football]. It's about money!"

If I had to guess, I'd suspect Swanstrom tripled his salary going from IC to (now) Cornell.

And you know, much like I've said elsewhere: I don't blame these guys one bit. They have families. Why shouldn't they make moves based on that?

Do I think it's 100% about chasing money? Of course not. And there are obviously some coaches who do stay at one level for a long time when they could probably move up. Dan seems very comfortable at the Ivy level. But there's no reason to believe that the buckets of extra cash these guys get when they leave D3 isn't a big factor.

I mean, be honest with yourselves: When you've moved from job to job, hasn't money been one of the biggest factors?
