D3Football Team of the Week:

P Vicente Lyon, Jr., Hobart

Lyon broke a pair of Hobart records on Saturday and played a big role in the Statesmen's 16-7 win over Ithaca. His first punt, from 9 yards deep in his end zone, traveled a Hobart record 86 yards before it was downed at the Ithaca 13. He eclipsed his own record set last year at Ithaca (73 yds). It's the longest punt in NCAA football this season. He followed that with punts of 57, 56 and 61 yards, averaging a Hobart record 65.0 yards per punt.

We also played Canisius and LIU back then, but Ithaca has always been tough to beat, that's why Saturday was a big deal.
As far as the visitor stands we had a full side at the old Boswell Bowl which was in the middle of the campus. Back in the early 1970's the old Boswell Bowl was the scene of some pretty famous lacrosse contests including the 15 pound lake trout game, gutted and hurled at the Cornell bench as a suggested sushi meal for the Big Red.  The new stadium was put up about 1974 with stands on one side as far as I remember.

Wooden bleachers did exist on the visitor's side in the mid 2000's. Drove out to Hobart both in 2005 and 2007 (had to look that up). Watched both games standing on the top "plank" of those bleachers leaning against a metal railing.

The earlier game was a triple OT RPI loss while the later one was an RPI win in the last seconds.

One thing that is undebatable nor based on often faulty memory is that Boswell has the best nearby food options in the Liberty League or possibly anywhere in D3 football. Arby's right across the street and the Wegmans deli not that much further. Forget about that anywhere else.

Tony/troy,
You're right about the visitor stands in earlier years , as someone refreshed my memory, they must have been removed 15 years ago or so. As far as food, Dana's Time Out right across 5/20 is a favorite pub before late games or after games.

Arby's is not good food.

The best wings in Ithaca are a 30 second drive from Butterfield Stadium, however

Checking in from Alabama, since you did mention "anywhere in D3", ;).  About 150 yards down the street from the south end zone at Huntingdon is a Moe's BBQ that has the best smoked wings around. 5 Points Deli is a few steps further just around the corner and has good sandwiches and burgers.
As for why I'm hanging out in the LL board, the St. Lawrence DC is a former Huntingdon assistant.

Everyone knows the best wings and blue cheese on the planet hail from The Ruck in Troy, NY.

There was Hooters in the Albany Mall that we attended once in a while, but no comparison to The Ruck. I do miss those enormous plates of wings at Hooters though. 50 wing enter, 1 wing leave.

After a disappointing 2-2 week last week, my yearly picks record fell to 25-4. Gonna nail it this week though:

Mach's not-disappointing Predictions:

Season Record: 25-4

Week 6

St. Lawrence - 13
RPI - 38
RPI has been disappointing and should realistically be 4-1. Maybe I'm being hopeful here, but if they don't mop the field up with SLU, I'm over this season.

Rochester - 14
Ithaca - 24
Not only do I think Ithaca should be the better team here, it will keep the LL super exciting. Rochester doesn't have my confidence as top tier in the LL quite yet, but they've done everything they've needed to do so far and a win this week would change that.

Buff St. - 0
Hobart - 24
I still think Hobart's offense needs work, but their D has been stout. I don't think Buff St. will see inside the 30.

Union - Bye Felicia

I'm expecting Hobart to be undefeated in the LL at least until 11/2 when they close with RPI and Rochacha. Will be fun to have a logjam at the top of the LL, but we shall see.

UfanBill

Only 3 games to pick with my Garnet on a much needed bye. After last week's 1-3 debacle I'm at 23-6.

Hobart 34 - Buffalo St. 7...'Bart plays the backups in the 2nd half.

RPI 31 - St. Lawrence 14...Home field means comfortable win.

Ithaca 20 - Rochester 17 in OT...Again home field is key. Bubble bursts for Yellowjackets.

Bartman went 2-2 last week, 22-5 overall.  Week 6 Picks:

Rochester.    14.      @Ithaca.      20.  The Bombers pull it out at Butterball

Larries.      10.        @RPI.          24.  Sliderulers avoid the big slide with a home win

Hobart.      35.      @Buffalo St.    7.  Tru Styles wins first start as Johnny C heals

Two great games between the OLD Guard and the Upstarts that will determine the balance of power in the LL today. Also Hobart backup QB , Tru Styles gets his first start of his career for Hobart, will we find a QB in the Liberty League that improves the league QB play?

SLU is legit, passing game looks very good. RPI up 13-10 at half, but this looks like anyone's game.
Ithaca has a great run game, except on 3rd and 4th down. Yellowjackets stop first series.

Ugly game at Butterfield at half, with Bombers up 3-0, as both defenses dominate and offenses sputter.

RPI seems to want it more today as they pull ahead of the Larries 20-10 third quarter.
