RE: Rudy  (the real Rudy)

Being 5' nothing...a hundred and nothing, does someone really expect Reg to believe this kat did everything the movie portrayed?  I mean, if he was playing DL and lined up again someone in a D1 program.....they would toss him around like a rag doll.  He wouldnt even be a practice hero....he would just get his head stomped on every play (man I hated scout team practice heros!!)

Do you think Audino and Rudy ever went head up at ND in practice? (they were there around the same time right??)

My prediction... Audino steamrolls rudy, then tells him he will be a captain and all american.... zing!!

Audino is not listed on the All-Time Lineups or the All-Time Roster at Notre Dame.  Perhaps Rudy played more than Audino.

Gotta love youtube... the actual 1975 footage of the Rudy sack at the end of the game. Its at about the 1:20 mark.

Tlm

Coach Audino played at ND from 1971-74 under Ara Parsegian.  Rudy Ruettiger played only two seasons, 1974 under Parsegian and 1975 under Dan Devine, so they would have been together on the 1974 team.

Undoubtedly they new each other but it is unlikely that they went heads up very much.  While Rudy was getting hammered by ND's 1st offense, Coach Audino would have been enjoyong a similar experience vs ND's 1st defense.

JT, where were the RUdy chants?  That was a little anti-climactic.  Was there a little cinematic embellishment??  He didn't even get his name mentioned!

'RUDY, RUDY, RUDY, RUDY!!!'

Coach Audino was busy in journalism class during the sack, learning how to fabircate news stories...

Yeah, they didnt even give that cat credit...and he just kind of "fell over" the QB when the other guy tackled him.

What a crock....by the way they made it into a movie, you would have thought the entire stadium would have been in a frenzy!  RUDY....RUDY....RUDY

Wait until I show that YT clip to MR, she may break into tears if everything she thought was true ended up being a hoax.

Being an ND grad Audino actually send us a Xmas card and an invitation to this years "Union Shooesapolooza tailgate".  Since MR was invited Reg is invited.....sorry guys, this year I am giving up car bombs and fried turkeys and switching to WHite Zin and cracker barrel.  I am RSVPing... YES!!!!

GO IRISH!!!!

So Johnny All-American-dino never suited up for the Irish? This whole time I thought he was the basis for Vince Vaughn's character in Rudy.

That rudy clip is great... the pre snap mule kick... CLASSIC. The QB had the ball for what 5 whole seconds? My grandma could sack a QB in that amount of time.

good movie though, Junior year of HS we watched it before the 1st game and we won... that was our only win that year.

p.s. "I said I never saw a game, from the stands!!"

From what I've read....

There were some Rudy chants in the crowd, but not the whole stadium.  He was written about in the school paper that week.

Dan Davine wasn't a dick like in the movie. A couple of the senior starters asked if Rudy could dress.  Devine said OK, like it was no big deal. There weren't any uniforms being slapped down on his desk in protest.

Rudy was the oldest boy in the family.  He didn't have a negative older brother.

His friend did die in a mill explosion.

He did not sleep in the janitor's office. He did not work as part of the field crew.

Everything else is pretty accurate.

So the whole movie is BS then huh?

The announcer sounds like Don Criqui.  Rudy certainly wasn't on the two deep and he may not have been on the printed roster.  As fast as things happen, Criqui probably had no idea who #45 was.

When JT broadcasted in college, he usually had both two deeps memorized.
