About 6 months ago, when Reg saw the previews for the movie "the dukes of Hazard" he said to himself..."Man I need to see that just to see how bad the acting is"

I got a chance to catch it on Saturday nice on demand.  I have to say that I would have been mad at myself if I had paid money to see that movie.  I mean I love Jessica Simpson...don't get me wrong....but she was worse than terrible!!!! And if that isnt bad enough johnny knoxville and Stifler are just as bad!....

For any of you that were die hard Hazzard fans, I am embarrased they even made this movie and were allowed to release it (Reg remembers waking up at 5:30 to catch it when he was younger bc it got moved from it's typical time slot)

Anyone else see it?

Another movie that was supposed to be big but Reg couldnt even stomach watching it is "the great white hype" Samuel L. was promoting that movie as if was the best thing since "back to the future"  Did you even get to watch it Samuel?....are you that full of yourself you thought it was funny?

Observations on EC-RPI for all you engineer backers

As a disclosure..my first LL game.  Was impressed with the overall play.  Certainly sloppy (penalties and turnovers) but there are certainly quality athletes and quality football being played.

So in that vein here goes..

RPI did move the ball but hurt themselves with some key penalties and missed opportunities after moving the ball on long drives.

QB played well but had some missed reads and threw into coverage a few too many times.  Certainly looks for TE..maybe a bit too much.  3 INT's weren't tipped balls they were poor decisions.  Threw a quality ball to the back of the endzone off the run for score.

OL protected well.. missed a few assignments resulting in sacks.  Did not drive anyone off the ball per se.  Bernardo got most of his yards on his ablity.  Certainly he is patient and shifty and bursts to any opening if it develops.

McGowan is real deal.  Dangerous after the catch and catches everything. Savalisi can outjump shorter DB's

TE is a load and is a big target with great hands

Offensive scheme was solid.. as I said they moved the ball well but for various reasons didn't finish the deal.  A key whiff by the FB from the tight formation on inside the 5, INT, key penalty etc.  Short passing game was very effective and play calling was good except for one late call that ended up turning the ball over.  Although it was a poor read/decision that was the real culprit on that play.

Defense was very stout.
EC only scored after RPI turned over the ball in their territory on INTs LBrs played well. MLB had several tough fills and some solid sticks.  Rayhill was very active and ran free off the edge blitzing for a sack and a few pressures.  Both DT's and DE's played a very solid game.  EC could not handle them.  The DE's especially both had penetration and nullified the jet sweep which EC tried to run repeatedly.  DT's had push and penetration without running by the play.

Secondary was solid although a few missed/late coverages were missed by EC.

Kicking game was good although they only punted once.  Returns gave them solid field position.  Only one scary near muff on a punt.

Bottom line they were a better team than EC but it certainly was a game that was competitive and had the feel of closer game for a few brief moments.

If RPI improves and is more consistent on O to finish their drives they will score points.  Would like to see more lanes for Bernardo to exploit.   D was very good.. we'll see if that was EC or they really are that solid.  Should be fun.

RE: RPI Blocking [the remix]

" Did not drive anyone off the ball per se.  Bernardo got most of his yards on his ablity.  Certainly he is patient and shifty and bursts to any opening if it develops."

Since Reg was an Engineer, RPI has not had a team that I have played for or seen thereafter that could drive block did not drive block....how hard is itdon't you just want to get pissed off and blow the DL off the ball a yard....just one yard??.....YOu know the freaking snap count!

We had a running back in '98 that was one of the fastest backs in school history.  98% of his yards came from tosses or zone schemes.  When we needed the first we would run ISO...but is was only good for 3-4 years MAX.

When RPI turned  to passing with the addition of Coach Lapo the dynamic of the Oline went from guys who would rather stomp on your face and give you the fishhook to guys who want to take three steps back and stand between the QB and DL.  Being a fullback, I hated that style of blocking....I always favored the ram this ball down their throats mentality.

Imagine this cat running after you!!....REG LOVE IT!~!

PBR...

'gro do you have any players going tonight in  monkeystompville ffl?  kurt warner did me right yesterday .....go figure the falcons D shuts down carolina and the stinkin jets light up the titans....so goes the life in ffl....

Reg is right about the size and style of o-lineman at RPI. 97-98 (and previous years, but thats when I got there) those cats were jurassic sized... and mean.

I'm just glad we changed the offense to adapt to the players. 40-11, 2 dance tickets, and 2 ECAC wins with the spread offense.

Re: LLFF

down by 25.27 pts to TDT with one man left (his guys have all played). And that man is LaDanian Tomlinson vs. Oakland.  Too bad the game starts after 10pm.

Gro, I heard that RPI didnt have the ability to run inside because they had no one to ISO block after 1997-1998 and that's why they changed schemes after 1997-1998......Is that true?

You are absolutly right JU.  Lineman aside... to execute the ISO you need a FB who is going to clear the hole. Along with our large linemen, we didn't have any mean SOB's playing fullback after the 97 season.  Sure there was this one kid who thought he was completely badazz with his bandana on, but he was softer than twinkie filling.

I guess he was good against other UCAA LB's but he would never even dream of going head up against the backers on his own team... except for the kids on scout D.

I wonder what that kid is doing today??

All kidding aside, the guy didn't really wear a bandana did he?  Whats the statute of limitations on smiting someone for things done 5-10 years ago?

JU-
How are you just going to step out there and call Reg on the carpet like that?  ISO was MY play!...granted after 2001 when Reg went from a 235lb bulldozer to a 215lb utility cart....ISO wasnt even on the play list.  In fact, I dont even think RPI ran the power I after our 2000 season...it was all single back.

JU-
why dont you search for "Regulator laying out herbs isolation" on you tube.  You will find about 100 hits....each of which someone on the opponents team took an additional grass stain on the back of their jersey.  Either that or they were really tired and I assisted them to sleep.

Gro, dont even get reg started.  "We can win with Regulator"- the kinger '99

I just hope it wasnt this guy...........

RE: the bandana

The guy Gro was referring to wore a bandana only during practice and games.  If you cats ever brought the wood against anyone you would know that a helmet with sweat on the inside is all over the place, you start using your head to knock people out and the thing comes straight down onto the bridge of your nose.  Reg has always had this problem and only when he wore a bandana did it slightly stop the helmet from breaking his nose.

I am actually about to pop in my HS recruiting film.....papaReg had it converted to DVD last year as a gift.....the gift that keeps on giving.
